I really like Sky Blue Sky. I'm not really sure why there's so much hate for that album. "Impossible Germany" is by far my favorite track.

Been checking out some of the albums listed in this thread and have found a winner. Great progressive music with some backbone to it and I love it . The Dear Hunter - Act II: The Meaning Of, And All Things Regarding Ms. Leading
Hadn't heard of the band until this thread, so BIG thanks to whoever mentioned it.
I peeped a lot of this other stuff but most of it is way too mellow or repetitive for me, so like someone said earlier...just a little info about the albums you list would help. If it's a snoozer then say so. 11/29/2007 8:35:02 PM |

It was my second favorite Modest Mouse record to date, and that's why I had it so high on my list.
I thought it was "okay" for several listens, then I found myself in love with it. The other thing that pushed it up higher on my list was when I chose to revisit it about a month ago and it was an even more enjoyable listen than when I first downloaded the record.11/30/2007 10:50:33 AM |

for sure its a good one. i had heard of them several times before this thread, but never actually checked them out. For some reason I thought I had and thought I knew kind of what their sound was, and after hearing several people in here talk about em, I realized I was mistaken.
They definitely remind me a lot of Mars Volta at times, but I dont mind it since I love TMV and they arent ripping them off despite similarities. 11/30/2007 1:04:52 PM |

^^ Sure, mang. I started listening to them when a friend of mine got Lonesome Crowded West when I first started college, but I didn't like it too much. (admittedly, I didn't give it much of a chance, either). Then when The Moon & Antartica came out, I loved that record and went back and listened to This is a long drive... and Lonesome Crowded West again.
The Moon & Antartica is still my favorite, but for now, I like the new one the second most. Who knows where I'll rank them this time next year, the M&A will probably always be #1 for me.

i'm 8 tracks through giving modest mouse's album another shot (after having not listened to it for months). and i'm pretty confident only two songs i've heard so far are decent. the rest seems pretty phoned-in to me. 11/30/2007 1:52:21 PM |

Damn, just in the first 8 tracks I think that "Dashboard", "Fire it Up", "Florida", "Parting of the Sensory" and "Missed the Boat" are all outstanding.
To each their own, though. 11/30/2007 2:02:36 PM |

If we wanna do shows, these are the ones I've seen in the second half of the year that absolutely ruled. I wasn't sure what to expect going into a half-reformed smashing pumpkins, but NOTHING rocks harder than that show. In fact, any of these bands are totally, 100% worth a long drive. Also, who else's seen Dinosaur Jr? Have you ever heard anything so loud, ever?
ween (baltimore) smashing pumpkins (greensboro) arcade fire w/ LCD soundsystem (columbus, OH... long drive) dinsosaur jr. (lincoln theater) white stripes (george mason u.) 12/1/2007 12:04:13 PM |

Neon Bible has been getting plenty of attention. Although you do have the problem with early releases such as Neon Bible, Armchair Aprocrypha, and Explosions new one that people do tend to forget about them at the end of the year. 12/10/2007 6:19:29 PM |
