The other team is Phoenix, but the ESPN guys said it was unlikely that they trade him within their division.
And the bulls are paying Ben Wallace $20 million, but Kobe at $19 million is overpaid?6/17/2007 8:36:32 AM |

There is a maximum salary in the NBA so its not possible to overpay the best player in the league.
If you took the salary ceiling off, Kobe would be making more money than he is currently because he's actually underpaid based on his production.
In other words, under the current rules it is impossible to "overpay" Kobe Bryant.6/17/2007 11:47:55 AM |

^^ Why? Because you don't understand economics then i can't make accurate statements? Seems illogical
When an unproductive Steve Francis is making as much money as one of the elite players of all time Kobe Bryant then Kobe Bryant is underpaid.

I understand that Kobe isn't the highest paid player in the game. But notice he's playing basketball, and not curing cancer... $19 million dollars is a SHITLOAD of money for playing a sport, am I wrong? economics, inflation, dumb gm's, civ3, whatever the hell you want to bring up aside... $19 million dollars for an athlete is never underpaid. thanks.6/18/2007 12:11:23 AM |
AndyMac All American 31922 Posts user info edit post |
Considering that if the athletes were paid less, the owners would make more, I don't think they are overpaid at all.
These guys are just sitting in an office, they aren't curing cancer.
They don't even have to put in the kind of dedication that the athletes do to get where they are.
Why should Athletes, who pour their blood, sweat, and tears into the sport since they were little kids, get a much smaller cut and let Joseph Wadsworth III who inherited a billion dollar franchise from his daddy rake in more money?

That was way back in the late 80s....these guys have been talking about the 2 championship teams the Rockets had in 94/95. And the other big man actually was Otis Thorpe. Robert Horry started at SF for them.6/18/2007 1:10:44 AM |

Actually Otis Thorpe only won one championship in Houston before he was traded for Clyde Drexler.
The starting backcourt was Vernon "Mad" Maxwell and Kenny Smith with Sam Cassell coming off the bench. 6/18/2007 6:52:06 AM |

It wasn't way back in the late 80s...it was way back in the mid 80s, by the late 80s Sampson was already limping around wondering what happened to his career. The question was in regard to who the 'Twin Towers' were, and the 'Twin Towers' were most definitely Olajuwon and Sampson.6/18/2007 12:27:55 PM |

ok enough with the over-underpaid issue. where do you guys want Kobe traded and why?
for me, it's Chicago since I feel that Kobe will go down as the top 2 players ever and to be up there #24 beside #23 in the banners And most importantly, combining him with Wallace and some of those other guys would be championship material. 6/18/2007 2:14:48 PM |
Panthro All American 7333 Posts user info edit post |
^that would never happen (at least that way).
If they ever wanted Kobe, they would have to dump the highest salary on their team, which is Wallace.
Either that, or give up Gordon, Deng, Hinrich & Wolfman.
If they were to do that...hell, that would be the Lakers version 2.0 6/18/2007 2:17:12 PM |

my guess would be Kobe to Chicago for Gordon, Tyrus Thomas, and the #9 pick.
Chicago is hellbent on not giving up Deng and I really doubt the Lakers would even want Wallace.
Hinrich, Kobe, Deng, Nocioni, Wallace.... that team could easily win a title 6/18/2007 5:47:26 PM |

On the one hand, there is some bad blood between Kobe and Philly fans. They booed him during an all-star game several years back, and he talked some shit about the city.
On the other hand, Philly has 3 1st round draft picks.

Yeah, because Dwyane was clearly 100% after that shoulder injury.
Wade is a horrible counter-argument since he put the team on his back in 2006 to win that championship. If there was ever a year where 1 star player willed a team to the title, it was that one. 6/19/2007 11:05:53 AM |

but I thought the East was so weak that a < 100% Wade and < 100% Shaq could at least win a single playoff game
course after re-reading the quote above it says finals "contenders" so i dont really disagree as much as i thought i did
