eh, the president guy had a "talk" with me..which basically meant listening to his life story lol. he didn't really give a damn and said the people in my building were like a cult that had nothing better to do than to find any and every thing to bitch about..and that they bitched so much he almost always just ignores them. he just felt like talking to me so he had me come over for a bit but yeah, no biggie... no fine, no getting bitched out, no eviction, nothing.

and, the old guy next door hasn't actually heard US ever, his wife wakes him up and makes him bitch if she hears anything..and that old bitch can hear better than me apparently

edit: and the couple claimed to have called the police because we were so loud, which was a lie (or they never showed)...the president of the HOA had a good laugh about that

yeah its kinda weird my grandma I think has better hearing then i do. I guess all our loud new fangle techno gadgets have ruined our ears lol. Nahh in seriousness i'll have grandma in my car playing the radio. normally with just me i'll have volume on 19-22. With people in the car i might turn it to 15-17 for conversation. With grandma i turned it down to like 12 and she still complained that my music was TOO loud. She also turns the TV so low i have to strain to hear it. I guess having lived on a farm for 75 years she is really sensitive to noise

after reading this whole thread, im thinking you people are the ones that complain when some little girl sells lemonade for like 5 days out of the year, without a business permit

yea, in the letter I wrote back to the one I put up in my picture gallery she said "she does have better things to do, she cleans houses 2 days a week" nothing wrong with cleaning houses..but damn, if that's the only thing you have in your life then I'm sorry

my townhouse at the townes at umstead is almost complete and i'm going to be extremely involved in the hoa because i want to make sure we're getting the most bang for our buck. i haven't met my neighbors, but i know two builders really well and they said they're really cool. next door i have "the girl next door"...literally...and then beside her is stengal from 850 the buzz and everyone is supposedly really nice. it's mostly young families and young professionals so i'm going to rent out some of my dvds to my immediate neighbors for like a buck a piece to stay on the good side in case i'm ever a bit loud in the tv room.

when i've lived in apartments, i didn't always know my neighbors (or want to for that matter), but now that it's a more permanent thing...i want to build that relationship early. i think ANYONE should want to do that if you're buying a place because HOA or not, if you can give your neighbor a call when you need something or need to talk about something...most problems will resolve themselves.

all i can say is my HOA has been funneling $100 every month from me and so far out of all the things promised when i first bought the house has not happened. I've been paying $100 a month to have some mexicans mow a tiny patch of grass and power wash the outside of my house once. Sounds fair to me

haha, are you serious? charging your neighbors anything, even a dollar, to rent a dvd from you is pretty lame.

agreed. its like inviting them over for a drink, and then asking for a dollar for every beer they drink.

^^one of my old roommates actually convinced me to start doing that a while back. we had a "tip jar" which usually was $1 per rental and would just have them write down what they were borrowing. i have a pretty big collection and have been burnt in the past for letting people "borrow" movies or games and then running off with them.

if it's an immediate neighbor that i'm close to, obviously i let them borrow whatever they want...but if it's all 100 people and their friends...that's different.

do you really think $1 is going to make any difference if someone wants to keep your movie? if anything, it will encourage them to keep it since they've paid something for it.

i can maybe see doing this when you're living in a college apartment complex or something, and you're trying to scam every dollar you can being a broke student. if you're trying to get in good with older, professional neighbors that's not the way. if you're that concerned about losing your stuff, just don't loan it out.

i just moved into a new townhouse development - i'm glad my neighbors are nice and don't charge me for shit i borrow - likewise i let them borrow things for free as well...i'm sure they will love you letting them pay you a dollar

that's pretty accurate i guess. i'll probably just loan to my immediate neighbors and not keep up with the hassle of the entire community (which i did in undergrad through a bulletin similar to jackleg's computer services).

I can't wait to never ever talk to my neighbors. Still.

Once I'm done with apt. life I'm going to be pretty unhappy if my neighbors can even see my house. Hopefully they'll be about 15 acres away in any direction.

1. old people are really annoying (sorry grandma, its true)

2. living in a house without neighbors on the other side of the wall is very nice indeed

Next place I buy might not be as nice but it's sure as fuck going to be enough land in the middle of no where that nobody is going to ever bitch about me being too loud

Good luck with that

If you can't respect your neighbors, they sure as hell won't let you stay.

rrrright...because when you live right next door to someone you should scream at them and raise hell to the HOA when they walk up the stairs carrying up their stuff at 11pm. sure they had a reason to be pissed once, i apologized, bought them a bottle of wine. shit happens.

they can't really do shit on their own to get rid of me, it's not a fucking monarchy
