^I've never heard of that guy, but I'll look into it. I love some Halal food! Btw I love this stand at Broadway just south of Prince on the east side of the street. Awesome chicken and rice for $5. I always go heavy on the white sauce, light on the hot.

man if you like halal food, you will love this place. line is always half a block long FOR A REASON. i love white sauce as well, although last time i burnt myself to hell with red sauce...that thing is deadly.

alright, so the place he is working is in Manhattan but they are putting him up somewhere in Brooklyn now instead of Manhattan. im still considering going, but it took him a few days to get back to me since he was moving and all and the prices have doubled since I was looking late last week

so im not sure if i want to pay that now, but if I do go, what is the quickest route to brooklyn from LGA?

The best falafal is SW Corner of 45th and 5th

He used to be a chef at the Russian Tea Room and easily the most reviewed stand in the city.
There's usually an epic line to go along with it too =\

Charley O's (not O' Charleys) is a bar in the middle of times square... we went there when we were visiting over spring break and they have a great happy hour from like... 10-midnight i think it was, 2 dollar domestic drafts... not bad for the middle of times square and the view is great

so im headed there friday through monday

went ahead and got the NY pass that I can go see all the tours for $100 bucks for 3 days and dont have to wait in lines and all, think that was worth that.

probably do it for 2 days then sell it on the third day for $30 to get some money back.

little italy, china and some of the bars are all being hit up too...any places you recommend?

ok didn't want to pick through the whole thread...but does anyone have any good ideas for a place to hang out in for New Years in NYC? My fiancee and I wanted to go to a twenty-somethings' bar/pub or lounge type place...nothing fancy or too expensive. Oh, and preferrably nowhere near Times Square.

I hate to break it to you but on NYE you can't go anywhere in NYC unless you arranged it at least a month ago. The vast majority of places have price fixe entry fees on NYE.

I live in NYC and we booked about 15 people in a popular bar just last week - $100 for all you can eat and drink from 9-2...so there's plenty out there, there's even a website that lists all of the NYC NYE deals...

You are also correct in your desire to avoid Times Square. It sucks on regular weekends and is an absolute nightmare on NYE...

The bars around West 3rd Street (east of 6th Ave) West 4th Street (west of 6th Ave) and Bleecker on both sides of 6th Ave are a pretty good collection. And they're all very laid back and chill. They will be packed though, go early!

Stay away from St Marks, the Bleeker area is going to be riiiidiculously crowded and don't go too far east or you'll have nothing to pick from but gay clubs. Sounds like the general area you're looking for though since its close to NYU. Bring cash though because I guaruntee most places will have deals like the one statehockey8 said and will only take cash at the door or tickets you bought ahead of time.

really amazing greek food to be found in Astoria - tiny restaurant right by Astoria Park. seriously amazing food. i can't remember the name of the place for the life of me, but it's right at Ditmars and 19th st.

also any of the vietnamese sandwich places in chinatown are cheap. A large 10"" sandwich for around 4 bucks.

street meat is also a good sometimes just look at the meat and how its being cooked before you buy and eat it. Also it will make you shit alot. Theres this greek couple on broadway and 4th street which make an awesome chicken pita sandwich for 3.50.

for folks that live in NYC, what's the general consensus on how far north on the UES/UWS is 'safe'? I don't really have a desire to live in Harlem or Washington/Hamilton Heights, but I was wondering if anyone had a good guideline on what street number to stay below.

Also, Harlem aside, UE/WS is for homos.

ok UES AND UWS rules

first off during the day all of harlem should be fine unless go around yelling some racist shit

UWS - anything below 125 at night is fine unless you're walking alone wearing money. But that goes for everywhere.

UES - most white people who live in the UES stay below 96th street. Theres really nothing to do on the upper east side period so being anywhere close to 96th street on the UES doesnt make sense to me.

if black people scare you then I would avoid Harlem. Washington Heights is filled with Dominicans so its kinda different than the regular 116th street to 155th street area.

people have been getting mugged in the park around the 70's on the west side tho so just keep an eye out everywhere you walk at night.

also I just realized you're looking for a place to live. The UWS and UES suck ass. Harlem is ok but theres nothing to do. I really see no point living up there. Your closest place with bars is the UWS and UES which suck and filled with columbia kids, frat guys, and idiots from long island. I have a really good friend who's gf lives on 157th street and it takes him an hour to get up there from brooklyn. Life is much better in brooklyn and queens. Also as a young person everything to do is in brooklyn and downtown.

turnout is usually pretty packed at that location - i'd expect 20-30 people with the wolfpack club in the section in the back of the bar...easy to spot because the girls bring tons of wolfpack club signs/gear and everyone will be wearing red
