The Jena 6?

Here's how I see it; the white kid is a fucking idiot for putting up an object whose racist associations are well-understood by all, and the black kids are fucking idiots for taking the bait. I understand that the black kids were hurt/pissed/whatever and I wouldn't say that the white kid should get off scott-free, but they could have conducted themselves a whole lot better. We're suppose to be a civilized society, and that means that we don't go around settling our differences by dispensing vigilante justice and beating the shit out of each other. There's plenty of stupidity and blame to go around for this one.

I think the Thug 6 should all be charged with Assault and Battery with a cocharge of committing a hate crime. This was blatant racially motivated. Any of those KKK or neo-Nazi's involved in violent acts against minorities deserve what they get when caught with escalated punishment b.c of the hate crime charge. On the converse I do not see why after a friendly speech by Al Sharpton the racially motivated assault on a white person goes virtually unpunished.

I wonder how long till Mychal Bell who has already been arrested 3 times for comitting violent crimes will be back in jail.

You know, if you don't want attempted murder charges, taking someone to the E.R. and dumping them after and ass whooping is a good way to get your charges lowered. There was a person who's family was threatened, and after beating the ever-loving shit out of the man who verbally threatened to kill people in the family, took him to the E.R. and took the police charges. Court ruled in self-defense and removed liability from the defendant.

If you're going to do vigilantism, do it right (I know it's a contradiction to the State). Both parties were wrong in what happened in Jena 6, racism was obvious in the legal system, and personally, I think some investigation might be a healthy thing for their legal system (an auditive review).

Justice, is perhaps one of the hardest things to look for in the world. All I can say is, you'll probably find it only in life after death. After all human nature in itself is vindictive.

^^ Yes, I agree with you HUR, to a point anyhow. I had read somewhere that I cannot source anymore (which may discredit what I read) that he was being an asshole in general, using racial slurs. If that was the case, a one on one fight might have been okay, but the stomping he got was more then excessive. Otherwise, you're right, and my above case goes only in general to most encounters one might have.

^ It happens all the time, we're vindictive by nature. Some people are of course, pacifist enough to not engage in activities like that. What usually happens is that if someone is an asshole, someone will confront them, then you'll get heated arguing, then shoving, after that you've got yourself a fist-fight.

No, it's not a good excuse, but as I said before, it'll usually end up as a argument, then shoving, fighting.

Obviously, if he just called someone a "nigger" and got the shit beaten out of him, I can say that probably shouldn't have happened, but it's a truth of a conflict, if you start it, and you don't stop it, it'll probably escalate. And I'm not saying that this instance is self-defense by any means, you're just assuming that from an UNRELATED EXAMPLE.

What the fuck I am saying, if you beat the shit out of a person, leave them there to die, that's attempted murder. If you take someone to the E.R. if you fought them and knocked them out without continuing to brutally beat them, you'll probably be charged with a lesser offense.

This of course is for two-sided confrontations: if he didn't confront by physically threatening you or presenting a threat with the intent to carry it out, you can't fight him, if he stops fighting, you can't keep fighting, that's what I mean.

my theory takes the middle ground of both of your arguments. If you are running your mouth and get your ass kicked then its your own fault. pussies call the cops and its part of being a man. However, this situation was NOT your bar shit talking fight. These 6 guys ganged up on the one white guy and continuously attacked him even after he was down for the count. This is neglecting the fact that "someone talking smack" was not the pretense to this guy getting attacked and the white guy did not call anyone the N*Bomb. Either way when you start brawling; if charges do get filed then accept the consequence. PERIOD. No crying boohooing and calling Jesse Jackson to protest. Yes, I see that now, I've read too many different things about the issue when it was still changing. However, even if he didn't do anything with the noose incident, if he was talking racist shit to the kids, he'd get dragged into it somehow. Did he do nothing to provoke a fight? If he didn't attempted murder/battery would be appropriate charges.
