They do have every right to cut his mic and ask him to leave.

But he doesn't have to comply.

It's his right to be an antagonistic douchebag. It happens sometimes at public debates and forums, and it totally blows...but...

first, he was simply being escorted away

then he starts to resist and get aggressive

then he is arrested for resisting

then he is tased for not putting his hands behind his back and fighting them as they take him into custody

umm they can ask him to leave and escort him out, but not without probable cause.........when its a public debate.

and also, they cannot lay hands on him if being ESCORTED OUT

being arrested is the only time an officer can physically touch an individual besides emergency cases

this was not one

It's funny how it is perfectly legal for security guards to throw a douchebag like this out of a private club, but when police officers have to forcefully escort this idiot out the cop-haters and ACLU types come out of the woodworks to say how illegal it is and how the cops are overstepping their authority.

Cops have to have some authority. Without it there will be mayhem and douchbags like this will run around fucking shit up for everybody else.

MAYHEM I TELL YOU!!!

private clubs = more likely to deal with rowdy-ass drunks who'll break shit in their clubs

this guy was at a public forum asking a question: he wasn't inciting a riot or destroying property

asking 10 questions

i guess his questions are a lot more important than the questions of all the other people who wished he would just stfu and quit making a scene

this guy is brilliant...know why?

because he is passionate about his stance and did the only thing he could to (try) and get a valid response and raise awareness.

its obv he became more of a disturbance when the cops tried to remove him from the room

but he never became violent

so he never needed to be tazed.

This is just another case of cops over stepping..again...and again...and again...oh and maybe this kid had a point? idk i wasnt listening

i think the kids point was that he was more important than anyone else in the room

when keeping it real goes wrong

you'd expect someone college-aged, who sounded reasonably intelligent, would know that if he pushed police officers he was gonna have to deal with the consequences

I understand the distinction, legally and practically speaking. However, this guy was every bit as annoying as the drunks at a bar who just won't shut up. I don't think that the cops were out of line in trying to move the guy along.

Of course, if you want to escalate the situation with cops, you should know that they will come down on you 10 times harder. That is just how they are taught, so that they don't lose control of a situation.

Didnt sound like he was asking questions, sounded more like a lecture to me. Usually when you ask a question you pause for a response. I guess some people get bogged down in the details.

i think some of the people defending this douchebag are looking at it from the perspective as if he was out in the middle of the brickyard or on a public sidewalk...in which case the cops wouldnt have done anything...but in this case he is causing a scene and hurting the overall experience of every other person who went to that speech to do something other than try to show off

The University of Florida did not fork out the big bucks to get someone as famous as John Kerry to speak so that some smartass could make a scene and fuck it all up for everyone else

you are the genius who says if you are asked to leave a public place by police officers that you are allowed to stay .. that is FUCKING brilliant.

not to mention you have no idea what issues our country is facing, and on the off chance that you do you have no idea what needs to be done.

I didn't see the cops ask him to leave.

I saw them put his hands on him and try to force him out.

Somebody else asked him to leave.

^I was talking about the people who cut his mic and asked him to leave. The cops weren't the ones who did that.

They just walked right up to him, put their hands on him, and tried to force him out.

Furthermore, it's still not clear that this was trespassing. It was a public debate/forum, and the guy was voicing his opinion...that's something people to do at a public debate. He wasn't walking around campus, harassing young women or running into classrooms shouting obscenities...

where are you guys getting the idea that this was a "public" forum?

i have a hard time believing only a couple hundred people would show up for a "public" speech by someone as famous as Kerry when Florida has 50,000 students

you guys will say whatever it takes to make it a situation where he was just standing on a sidewalk and cops came up and tazered him for talking

He fucked up the speech for everyone else and then he wouldn't leave

i also don't see that this was a debate either .. although that is besides the point .. if you are asked to leave you can't stay. If you honestly believed he had a right to stay after he was asked to leave then I'll tell you for a FACT that you are misinformed.

now were they justified to ask him to leave is a completely different question...

I still think John Kerry could have controlled the situation but he is not a true leader.

^^^^"pwnt" is not a valid response.

Furthermore, I'd like to know more about what needs to be done...since I know nothing about it, and since you know--for a fact--that Bush is doing good and Kerry would have been bad. That's right. You're a fucking psychic. You don't just see the future; you see alternate realities. Better yet, you got in your DeLorean, went back in time three years, rigged the election so Kerry would win, watched events, then went back in time again unrigged the election, and waited three long years to come to TWW and tell us definitively that Bush is better for us than Kerry. Give my regards to Doc.

^So I can just ask some dude to leave, and he has to obey me? Show me this law. I'd like to protest it.

who gives a fuck if i use the word process? wtf does that have to do with anything?

this guy is a complete asshole and you bend over backwards to defend what you incorrectly perceive to be a civil rights violation

i'll bet you an hour before the speech he was telling his friends " oh man i'm gonna get kerry...i'm gonna ask him some hard questions and film it and put it on my website! it will be awesome!"
