Yes, clearly that's what this is. It has nothing to do with your shit-posting in two sections that I frequent.

Turned it off 15 minutes in. Couldn't stand another second of that "witty and smart" script stabbing my ears.

^might give it another shot. maybe i'm just getting old but from what i saw it seemed like the kind of movie i probably would have loved when i was 16, but now the girl just seemed so annoying i wanted to strangle her.

yeah, the dialogue in the beginning of the movie made me want to shoot myself, but it got a lot better as it went on

^ Yeah, it's way over the top for the first fifteen, but then all the stupid "honest to blog" shit goes away.

Kind of like In the Aeroplane Over the Sea with the "I love you Jesus Christ" stuff.

Yes, I went there.

Yes, I'm ashamed.

^^^ / ^^

I had an argument with J_Gatsby about this...the howling of "I love you Jesus Christ" is the point where Jeff Mangum dares people to turn the album off, and if you stick with it, you get rewarded with a beautiful, transcendent piece of work.

I don't think Juno is anywhere near the level of brilliance that Aeroplane exists on, but it's not beyond me to suggest that Diablo Cody made an effort to throw people off the ride if they weren't going to understand it anyway.

This movie is going to become a video game

Quote :
"Apparently during a panel at the D.I.C.E. Summit in Las Vegas, an "intellectual-property migration specialist" (whatever the hell that is) Keith Boesky said that: "People are making a game based on Juno just to cater to the [casual] market.""

It'll be like Mario Party, but the mini-games will be based on chugging Sunny D, moving living rooms into peoples' yards, and making Sonic Youth references.

i was thinking like a first person shooter where you have to utilize the pull-out method and shoot household objects in order to keep your girl from getting preggers in the first place.

why don't they just invest the money that would go into this awful idea into the Arrested Development movie.

Ellen Page will be in it, and she'll cut Michael Cera's balls off, and everyone in the theater will scream, and then Cera will start laughing and J. Walter Weatherman will jump into the shot and break the fourth wall and say, "And that's why you should only cancel shows that use lame repeating gags."

Then Ron Howard will say, "Wait."

I finally saw Juno last night. A bit cliche, but I really liked it. And, surprisingly, I though Jennifer Garner did a damn good job in the movie.

I bought the soundtrack. It's mostly the indie acoustic shit I listen to all the time anyway.

Finally watched this movie last night.

Good movie...but holy shit the dialog annoyed the fuck out of me. It reminded me of when my girlfriend in high school use to make me watch Dawson's Creek. NOBODY IN HIGH SCHOOL TALKS LIKE THAT! I mean seriously. Take Superbad on one extreme, then take Dawson's Creek and Juno on the other extreme...in the middle is how kids in high school really talk.

Still an enjoyable movie with some good acting.

^ This argument always cracks me up.

No one talks like the kids in Brick, either...but that's the point. Some people want to hear bizarre film noir dialogue coming out of kids at a sun-drenched high school, and some people want to hear kids constantly talk like the quip-a-second smartasses they can only be for minutes at a time in real life..

overall, surprisingly good.

See...I think you can still make Juno a great movie without making the kids sound like 25-year old hipsters.

High school kids can still sound intelligent and knowledgeable without coming off as philosophy majors or having seen every indie movie and listened to every artist/band known to mankind. At some point it just gets ridiculous.

You can do it any way you want as long as it works...and it can work both ways.

And FWIW, other than the horror movies there aren't any references in Juno that are so horribly obscure that they're digging for cool points.

um i have to disagree there

between the soundtrack, the quirky-alternative-indie dress, the music conversations, AND the horror movies... they were totally seeking cool-points.

that doesn't make it bad, but ya gotta call a spade a spade

Well the art direction is the art direction, and that's just the kind of film it is, so you're right on that count...but I'm saying that none of the music/film references aside from the horror stuff were purposely obscure.

I liked it a lot better the 2nd time through (finally got time to go see it with Catherine this past weekend since she hadnt seen it yet). I think I could more easily look past the dialogue expecting it the 2nd time.

I'd say Herschell Gordon Lewis is just as "obscure" in the horror film industry as Thurston Moore is in indie music. Just sayin.
