Zoubek only played 12 minutes. Do they really think they'll be able to stand up to our frontcourt with a bunch of players who are 6' 8" or shorter? Unless they think can outrun their opponents. I Haven't seen enough of Nolan Smith to know how fast he is, but I don't see Scheyer, Paulus, Singler, or Nelson outrunning anyone.
And I read the N & O article from their game w/ Shaw and it said they were using a full court press during the first half. Who in the hell presses a D-II team? Hope they try to do that against a D-I team with quality guards. They'll get blown out of the gym. 11/3/2007 7:18:35 PM |

Not they won't, but they will lose against teams with size and who don't cower when they see duke on the jersey. 11/3/2007 7:23:33 PM |

^ I don't consider guarding the ball handler as he carries the ball up the floor a press. I should clarify that the N & O article said they were using traps and such. This is what I meant when I said press. 11/3/2007 7:37:08 PM |

I wasn't watching, but Gary commented on the radio that we were pressing against them some.
In any case, why should you expect a team to gameplan differently for an exhibition game than for the regular season? Duke commonly uses pressure defense. 11/3/2007 7:49:09 PM |

^exactly. Some vaginas are under the mistaken impression that taking it easy is respectful to your opponent. Neither you nor the opponent benefits when you don't play as you normally would.
If I'm the barton coach, I'd much rather have my weaknesses exposed early so that I can work on them for conference play instead of being surprised and disappointed when it counts.
Also, playing like this instills a meanness and sense of absolute superiority that is requisite for any good team.

^ A guy named Richard just referred to me as a vagina. Ahhh, the irony. 11/3/2007 9:06:42 PM |
