another important thing to do is make sure you're increasing your health bar with all the side quests - I've noticed that it seems like i'm getting the shit beat out of me but then all of a sudden I can whip their ass with only 2 more health segments.
Right now I've got one line of health plus 3 bars on the second line 11/21/2007 1:56:18 PM |

i would like to revise any initial opinions I had of this game
it was great for the first 1 or 2 assassinations
but it's the same thing over and over and over...even the fucking dialogue doesn't change...every single person you save is either going home and not leaving or wishing their brothers were as brave as you or about to be carried off
it's a nice sandbox, but the game itself is pretty crap...I'm disappointed I bought it 11/22/2007 6:36:48 PM |

I just finished watching my roommate play through this game. I couldn't stand it for more than the first couple of missions. I don't understand how it got such great reviews, I would give it a 6 at best. It is pretty neat to start off with, but there are too many things that are just so beyond frustrating, I don't see how so many people liked it.
From the PA rant:
Quote : | "I also can't be 100% positive but I'm guessing that some of these reviewers didn't let the credits role. Again, I don't want to spoil anything but wait for the credits to end. Until reviewers start posting their Gamertags along with the review we'll never really be able to tell how much of a game they played. But I'd be willing to bet some of them are missing the "Visions of the Future" achievement. I'm not gonna say why but If you don't have this achievement you can't say jack shit about the ending." |
I couldn't disagree with this more. What the hell is he talking about? The only thing you see after you get that achievement is one more email on one of the computers. Big Deal. I even had to go read some message boards to figure out what was so cool after the credits that I was missing out out. Turns out, it's not a damn thing. ]11/23/2007 10:14:11 PM |

I'm close to finishing the game, and while I still think it's an amazing game, I think I see where everyone is coming from.
The game is one big ass sandbox and you don't have anything new to do in it after the first set of missions. So 8/9ths of the game is repeating EXACTLY the same thing you did in the first ninth. It does get a old. 11/24/2007 5:36:03 PM |

really? you don't find it repetitive? i mean it's fun when you take it in short bits...but it's not like GTA when you can sit down and do jack shit for 6 hours and have a blast doing it 11/24/2007 10:16:41 PM |

i do find it repetitive. i understand why some people dislike it, for that reason.
it just so happens that I like my games easy, since I get my fair share of mental stimulation elsewhere
also, I like running up behind guards and flying through the air to stab them - that shit will never get *old* to me

yeah, in short sessions the game is better. I sit down and play and find myself trying to finish off an entire assassination for an area in one sitting. I think that's a bit too much.
I also agree about the GTA reference and not being able to play for 6 hrs doing jack shit and enjoying it. 11/24/2007 11:29:30 PM |

I do think the ability to assassinate a guard 10 feet from a second guard who is staring at you is a little much
I mean seriously, you have this monk looking guy walking around, he's walked past 4 guards and they all of a sudden fell to the ground after he steps behind them for a second...doesn't something seem odd about that?
lol
but it's fun, i keep trying to run around to get a ton of guys involved in the big fight achievements, but either they run away after I counter, or there are no extra guards to be found 11/28/2007 10:08:07 AM |

do not buy this game, there are a lot of issues with the game freezing up. Ubisoft is trying to come up with a patch available to the playstation network but has not been able to fix the issue yet. I have the game and will return it to best buy asap because of this issue. 12/5/2007 12:50:57 AM |

Is there any advantage in caring out all 6 investigations before going after the target?
I can't even get all 6 to appear it seems. I go into a town and climb a vantage point and only 3 show up. Once you get 3 it doesn't seem to let me find anymore.
Also do you get any achievements from doing a "silent" assassination? I always seem to get sighted before I get to the target so I have to resort to killing the target amist a battle with 3 other guards. 1/14/2008 9:50:27 PM |
duro982 All American 3088 Posts user info edit post |
there is an achievement on the xbox for "perfect assassination" or "silent assassination", not sure exactly what it is called but it is for killing the target before being spotted. I've done it on 2 assassinations, I imagine it can be done on all but 1 (for which I know it can't be done).
There may be achievements for doing all of the side missions, but the story is no different and as you've probably already figured out they are repetitive and you don't learn much from them. 1/14/2008 10:31:29 PM |

I've been doing all the missions. I'm on the 5th memory block right now. It was pretty easy up until now, but now there seem to be a patrol of 5 guards in every city square, which makes it incredibly hard to do the "assasinate X patroling guards in X minutes". If I decide to bolt it and run, I'll get at least 20 guards following me if I change my mind and want to fight... Rooftops are no longer sanctuaries, because every rooftop has a guard; it's easier just to find a bench while I'm in yellow.
I'd say this game does a really good job of mimicing that "oh shit i've got to run from stuff and get away" feeling, trying not to get cornered, and not caring about where I'm going (but trying to go through areas where I have vigilantes).
If you get in a lot of trouble, you can run into a pack of vigilantes, and have them hold the guards back while you kill them. It's kinda cheap, but it'll save you.
It's really fun to case out a joint and plan your escape after you do the assasination; like the hospital (the first mission in Acre) where the window was shot out. 1/14/2008 11:57:18 PM |

my roomate plays this on PS3. I have to say from watching it, the shit looks really boring. Its just a bunch of running around and doing the exact same thing. Kind of like Grand Theft Auto, except even that has more variation. 1/16/2008 12:42:10 AM |
goalielax All American 11252 Posts user info edit post |
it's not even close to GTA...the lack of any real variation in AC makes it so far from GTA, it's silly...maybe if you compared it to playing the first 4 missions in GTA over and over and over again (and collecting photos/oysters/horseshoes/tags), sure...but this isn't a game where you can just load up for an hour and dick off and actually enjoy it
