i don't know why anyone would take that job, to be frank.
not that it's not possible to succeed, but it's going to be the hardest place in the country to really get going. 12/14/2007 9:11:34 AM |

na, they will be fine... Borges wants the job and he would do fine... if anything it will be good to get someone less conservative in and Cut deserves another chance, he got a raw deal at Ole Miss and I would be really interested in seeing what he could do at Duke. Hes a nice guy and has a great track record of developing QBs.
Biggest impact will be potentially losing ground on Terrelle Pryor (#1 QB recruit). Everyone had him going to Ohio State but Tennessee has made a shitload of ground up but I think that would all go out the window if Cutcliffe leaves

Quote : | "Georgia Fans Deliriously Happy that Cutcliffe is Leaving Vols for Duke
David Cutcliffe to Duke is good news for the Blue Devils and bad news for the Vols. Cutcliffe's arrival coincided with a resurgence in the Vols' formerly stagnant offense. As quarterback coach, he turned the mercurial Erik Ainge into a steady performer and notched his NFL draft hopes up from 'hopeless' to 1st or 2nd round.
So why is it also good news for Georgia fans? Georgia Sports Blog explains:
Phil Fulmer's record vs. Georgia when he doesn't have David Cutcliffe on staff is 2-5. However, Fulmer and Cutcliffe together have produced a staggering record of 9-0 against the Dawgs.
If he should accept the position at Duke, no one will be happier than [defensive coordinator] Willie Martinez. Hell, Willie could've provided a reference for the guy.
Losing to Tennessee this past season likely cost the Dawgs their shot at an SEC title, not to mention a national championship berth. So, uh... congrats, Georgia. And Duke." |

Cutcliffe Expected to Become Duke Head Coach
(WVLT) -- GoVolsXtra, WVLT Sports Overtime's media partner is reporting that sources on UT campus say Tennessee offensive coordinator David Cutcliffe has been offered the duke head coaching job and that he is expected to accept the position.
There is no indication yet whether Cutcliffe would remain with the team through the Jan. 1 Outback Bowl.
Cutcliffe's current tenure as the Vols' offensive coordinator has been two years; however, he coached 17 seasons at UT in the 1980's and 90's. In between his two stints in Knoxville, Cutcliffe served as head coach for the only time in his career, guiding Ole Miss to a 44-29 record over a span of six seasons before being fired in 2004. 12/14/2007 12:54:43 PM |

almost official: Cutcliffe to Duke
http://www.wral.com/sports/story/2173449/
Quote : | "Duke has hired David Cutcliffe to be its next football coach and will have a 5 p.m. news conference Saturday to announce its decision, WRAL has confirmed.
Cutcliffe, the former head coach at Mississippi, has been the offensive coordinator at Tennessee.
The Duke search committee met Friday evening to confirm the decision. Duke later sent out a statement later saying the news conference would be Saturday at 5 p.m. but did not announce the coach. WRAL, however, has confirmed the hire with multiple sources and also has obtained a copy of a separate email sent to Duke football supporters acknowledging Cutcliffe is the hire.
Several outlets reported earlier Friday that the deal was done. But Alleva, reached Friday at 3:30 p.m., told WRAL's Jeff Gravley: "How can we have a coach when we haven't even made an offer?"
"My hope – my hope – is we have an offer in place tomorrow [Saturday], and Sunday we have a coach," Alleva said.
That formal offer came, and was accepted, after the search committee met.
Cutcliffe, 53, rocketed to the top of Duke's list after his interview on Wednesday. He is known as an excellent offensive coach and has drawn praise at Tennessee for his leadership abilities, something that will be critical for the next Duke coach.
Cutcliffe was 44-29 at Ole Miss, with quarterback Eli Manning as his star player.
Tennessee coach Phil Fulmer had high praise for Cutcliffe.
“David is an outstanding football coach and outstanding man,” Fulmer said. “He’s got great character and integrity. His experience as a quarterback coach and coordinator is very proven. And also his experience and results at Ole Miss were very productive."
Fulmer said he would "appreciate it" if Cutcliffe coaches Tennessee in the Outback Bowl against Wisconsin even if he is named the Duke coach.
Tennessee receiver Josh Briscoe called Cutcliffe "a demanding coach" who expects to score 30 points every game.
“When you don’t do that, he lets us know he’s going to fix whatever problem that we have,” Briscoe said. “He lets us know that we didn’t go out and execute and the reasons why we didn’t.”
Briscoe called Cutcliffe “a very emotional guy” and said, “Whether it's a practice or just a walk-through, he’ll let you know exactly how he feels and what he expects.”" |

Davis at UM and one year at UNC: 55-28 (66% wins) (we'll leave out his pitiful excuse for an NFL career with 42% winning percentage)
TOB at BC and one year at NCSU: 80-52 (61% wins)

"I was looking for a sign, am I in the right place doing the right thing?" Cutcliffe said. "I didn't find a penny, I didn't find a nickel, something to tell me I'm in the right place. I didn't find any trash. I was at a place that just spelled pride. The buildings, the ground, you felt like you were on hallowed grounds."" |
