looks like a break in the weather for the weekend 10-15 kts, 2-3 ft seas, chance of rain as of now

anyone going?

might try to catch a speck or a drum. believe all the rain is gonna stop the creek/river bite for a while. probably try somewhere closer to the sound. haystacks might even work.

Hopefully headed offshore next weekend if the weather will cooperate. Time to pull the boat down to the beach and get it parked there and ready either way.

I live in the mountains near Denver and it's just starting to warm up. My buddy caught this bass last night at a nearby lake....As you can see he is a pretty dedicated to the sport, haha.

Flipping through the tv channels this morning and ran across the Carolina Outdoor Journal. They were fishing for kings on light tackle. I need to get back to the coast.

se7entythree and I went fishing.
We went to Weldon to fish at the boat ramp.
Cast like 4 times and decided it was shitty cause all our tackle got stuck on the rocks and the dumbasses in the boats aren't nice enough to give us any space to cast.
I don't get it. If you're gonna sit there in your boat and not fish then why the hell are you gonna park right in front of people trying to fish off the banks?

We did fish on the tar and se7entythree caught a shad
I didn't catch anything
But I did catch 2 lil crappie in her pond

^^ basically it was a "sit down and listen to how it's gonna be" type scenario that was called a "forum"

there were probably 50 SHPs there, all of the district supervisors and everyone from HQ in raleigh were there... also there was some fed DOT district guy and all of the eastern nc politicians

the shp basically said, if you are towing a boat with a truck thats 10,001 lbs gvwr or more you need a class A, ok no problem I got that, but then they got into shit like if you're a charter captian, tournament fisherman, or you have a wrap on your boat, you are commercial and you need a CDL, log book, med card, dot number... all that bullshit

I will say this, the trooper did say, that if you're just fishing recreationally then all the CDL shit doesn't apply... he didn't say lie, but well, he gave us the loophole... don't tell those fuckers you are chartering or going to a tourny

this is also in the political pipe, the congressman or whatever his ass is has introduced a bill and has 0 opposition to it, on changing the laws for boats... if you are overwidth/overweight, you can tow on sundays, holidays, and at night... which is a huge deal because if you have a boat thats over 8'6"(iirc) you are subject to these stupid ass laws

the shit hit the fan when some cat left NC after an flw kingfish tourny, got pulled then told the trooper he had just won 100K... he ended up with damn near 10k in bullshit fines and tickets

but thankfully a district commander for the NCSHP is also on the SKA tour and he made the meeting happen

it looks like as of june the laws are going to change concerning boats when it comes to overwidth/overweight issues

I went to Boaters World in Mooresville last weekend, and the guy in there told me that they are having a big sale this coming weekend on their saltwater gear. He said he didnt know any real specifics except that the Berkley Gulp stuff was going to be Buy One Get One Free. I havent been back to Raleigh for a while, but I think there is a Boaters World over on Glenwood...right?

friends, i am looking for a jon boat. at least 14foot. would be nice if it was fairly cheap. i missed my chance during the cold months. this will stay at the beach, so no need for a trailer.

I'd look on craigslist. Now should still be a good time to buy, since people are upgrading their shit with warm weather coming on.

^^that saying pisses me off every time i hear it.

sometimes you catch fish, sometimes you don't. if you can't have fun sitting in a boat all day and not catching shit, then you need to find another hobby. folks who feel a whole day was wasted because they didn't catch anything fall into this category too.

"This planet is covered with sordid men who demand that he who spends time fishing shall show returns in fish." -Leonidas Hubbard, Jr.

"Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after." -Henry David Thoreau

"The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope." -John Buchan

"There will be days when the fishing is better than one's most optimistic forecast, others when it is far worse. Either is a gain over just staying home." -Roderick Haig-Brown
