nah, I don't they'll have much trouble with vandy even though it's away. kentucky has already beat them once and trailed most of the game. Tenn does get them at home so that'll help.

^^ I hate being right so much... but anyways...

just keeps getting better for the "football school where bball will never matter":

Quote :
"Tennessee got a large win on the court today against Kentucky but the good news didn't stop there. The Vols had an impressive list of visitors in the stands this afternoon, and struck gold by nailing down an early verbal commitment from Stone Mountain, Ga. forward Kenny Hall, the No. 28 overall prospect in the Class of 2009.

Rivals.com rates Hall as the No. 28 overall player in the nation.
Hall (6-foot-8, 215 pounds) becomes the Vols first commitment in the Class of 2009, and he does so with a splash.

The athletic and versatile big man is a truly 'elite-prospect' and picked Tennessee over some of the college game's heavyweights, such as Duke, Florida and UCLA.

Despite the opportunities in front of him, Hall had no qualms about ending the recruiting process early and casting his lot with Bruce Pearl's program.

"There were a lot of things I liked about them but really it probably came down to being most comfortable with the staff there," Hall said. "I love the coaches there. Coach (Tony) Jones is the assistant who recruited me the most, but I like the whole staff, especially Coach Pearl."

Landing Hall reverses a trend for the Vols with prospects in the Atlanta area. Tennessee has found itself seriously in the mix with a pair of McDonald's All-American selections—J.J. Hickson and Chris Singleton—in each of the last two classes, only to lose out in the end.

Establishing a foothold in the talent rich Atlanta-area has been a cornerstone of Tennessee's recruiting strategy under Pearl, and Hall's commitment is proof that it's starting to pay dividends.

It's also proof that the Vols' success on the court is catching the attention of the nation's top prospects.

"Their success was a big factor in my decision, you can tell by what coach Pearl has done there that they're a winning program," Hall said. "I'm not saying I like them because they're ranked No. 1 right now, but he's turned it into a big-time program and I want to be a part of that.

"I also really like the style of play, that was another big reason I was interested in them to start with. I feel like it's a perfect fit for me. I'm a big man who can run the court, make things happen and play defense and that's what they want me to do."

Hall, who visited Duke last weekend said that he had made essentially made his decision before heading to Knoxville this weekend for his unofficial visit, but if he needed any extra prodding, the environment he saw for the Kentucky game was a strong selling point.

"I loved the atmosphere up there, the fans, the arena, everything was great," Hall said. "It was a great game, I was really into it. While it was going on I was thinking that I could really see myself playing here."

Rivals.com rates Hall as a four-star prospect and the No. 28 overall player in the Class of 2009."

Already had the 10th best SF in the country, 4-star Renaldo Woolrdige (who everyone assumed was going to home town USC), the 13th best Center, 4-star Philip Jurick, now if we can just get Scotty Hopson (5-star, #2 SG) away from Miss. State...

Plz to keep taking recruits from Duke and Ratface....

Pearl is definitely moving up on high school players lists as coaches they most want to play for.

Quote :
"Famously, the top NCAA Tournament seeds held to the RPI. Well, for the most part.
Perhaps infamously, Tennessee (29-4) found itself the odd team out.

Despite a virtual stranglehold on the top RPI and strength of schedule rankings in the dog days of college basketball's season -- January, February and the first half of March, the Vols skidded to a No. 2 seed in the East Region Sunday. Tennessee presumably was the final No. 2 seed, landing in a bracket opposite No. 1 overall seed North Carolina. Memphis (South), UCLA (West) and Kansas (Midwest) were the other No. 1 seeds, in order of overall placement.

The whole scenario left Vols coaches, players and administrators scratching their heads Sunday evening. Tennessee opens Friday against 15th-seeded American University (21-11) at 12:15 p.m. EST (CBS) inside the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center.

"I certainly don't think that anybody has played a tougher non-conference schedule," athletics director Mike Hamilton said. "I think our (SEC) conference is very strong. It's clear, I think, that in every poll our strength of schedule is No. 1. Our RPI was No. 1. We were ranked fourth going into the tournament this weekend. It would at least appear, on the surface, that they gave more credit to the tournament, which is a shame in some ways because there were unique circumstances in Atlanta this weekend.

"We'll respond, and our guys will look forward to going out and playing some games and seeing if we can't take it to San Antonio (site of the Final Four)."

UT coach Bruce Pearl, peppered repeatedly with questions about a Vols program that in three years has ascended enough to be obviously disappointed with a 2 seed, wondered what his team might have done differently.

"It had to be something," said Pearl, asked if Saturday's SEC Semifinals loss to Arkansas was the damaging blow. "Obviously the body of work didn't weigh as heavily perhaps as the conference tournament.

"We were No. 1 in the RPI, had the No. 1 strength of schedule. We did everything that we could to put ourselves in that position."

Indeed, the Vols had what seemed, at least on the surface, like an airtight case for a top seed. Except to the selection committee. And perhaps Memphis coach John Calipari, who said he believed there were "eight to 10" teams worth of a No. 1 seed but omitted the Vols in interviews with both CBS and ESPN.

"I think that's a game he wants to play, and we'll play it," Hamilton said.

The Tigers are a No. 1 seed but have played just one tournament team -- Tennessee -- since Jan. 30, and lost that game on their home floor.

"For whatever reason, Coach (John) Calipari and the Memphis program gets a lot of national attention," Hamilton said. "You know, we beat them on their home floor in Memphis. I'd like to see how some of our top teams in our league would stack up in that particular league. I'd say we would fare pretty well. They're a heck of a ball team now, and they've had great success and will do well in the tournament, but I think we stack up well against Memphis when you start looking at tournament resumes."

Tennessee was 12-4 against teams in the field, and its four losses were all to teams who reached the dance. The Vols also were 6-2 against ranked teams, 3-2 away from home in such contests.

By comparison, UNC (Maryland), Kansas (Oklahoma State) and UCLA (Washington) each dropped a game to a non-tournament bound opponent.

"We're still disappointed over the loss (to Arkansas), and to get the last No. 2 seed, we weren't real thrilled," senior guard Chris Lofton. "But it's the NCAA Tournament, so we've got to go down there and play hard. …

"I think we played one of the toughest schedules. We went on the road and played the top teams and we were successful."

Now, all that's left for the Vols to do is play the hand they were dealt beginning Friday in Birmingham.

"They know what they've got to do," Pearl said. "We've got to take one game at a time. We've got a tournament to win this weekend, and a tournament to win in North Carolina. "And then there's a tournament in San Antonio that we'd like to try and get to.""

meh, some good points (all 4 losses were to tournament teams is a good one), but I think not winning the conference killed them, but Calipari is a little fucking bitch if doesnt consider Tennessee a top 10 team but does consider Memphis. But a 1 vs. a 2 isnt that big of a deal

1 vs 2 isnt that big of a deal, but being the last 2 seed and thus the 8th overall is a bit of slap in the face

But I think it works out if they reach the elite 8....not saying they beat Carolina, but I think they match up with them better than they would Kansas or UCLA...and we already saw what they did against Memphis

I think thats the most likely 1/2 matchup to happen of any of the 4 regions, and if you come up to Charlotte for it we won't be too much of an asshole to you

Still somewhat of an asshole though

Steelers release wide receiver Cedrick Wilson following arrest

By JOE MANDAK, Associated Press Writer Mar 20, 8:19 pm EDT

PITTSBURGH (AP)—The Pittsburgh Steelers released wide receiver Cedrick Wilson on Thursday, hours after he was charged with punching his estranged girlfriend in the face at a suburban restaurant.

The 29-year-old player was arraigned on charges of simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct and freed on $10,000 bail.

“We’re extremely disappointed with this incident,” team chairman Dan Rooney said. “The Steelers do not condone violence of any kind, especially against women.”

Wilson apologized and said he will be treated for anger management.

“I shouldn’t have done it. I hold myself to a higher standard than that,” he told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “I just want to apologize to Lindsey, her family, the NFL family and the Pittsburgh Steeler nation. I let them down.”

Lindsey Paulat told police that Wilson pushed her on the shoulder at the Patron Mexican Grill on Wednesday night. She said when she turned around he punched her in the left side of her face, according to the complaint.

Her left cheek was red and swollen, and witnesses told officers what happened, police said. Officers later found Wilson as he was leaving his Pine Township home in his car."

He will probably play against Louisville but I doubt he will be 100%. Tough break gor the VOLS.
