what type of bike has the headlights that look like oO with more of an offset angle?
I'm guessing they're separate high and low beams... Can't seem to find any that come like that stock. Is that just a common mod? 8/3/2008 10:36:03 AM |

well, the Triumph got sold before I could get to it. the Smokin' Joe's CBR600 F3 has over 20k miles...still prob worth it for $2000, but I'd rather find one with a little less mileage.
I've always wondered about sportbike durability...seems most of them get balled up or stolen before getting significant mileage, so it's hard to say. 8/3/2008 10:45:34 AM |

They are most likely separate high and low beams, as thats fairly common on sportbikes. But other than that, I have absolutely no idea wtf you're talking about. One of the bikes on the last page? Or just one you saw somewhere?8/3/2008 3:36:51 PM |

my only concern with a higher mileage sportbike would be how it's been treated. wheelies, hard cornering, laying them down, etc. can all cause oil starvation. not to mention general beating on them with constant rpm's in the red, hard clutchess shifts, and the list goes on. other than that, they're designed to go as many miles as anything else. obviously there are cruisers/enduros out there with 100k and more on stock mechanicals.
i think in general car minded people tend to focus on mileage way too much for bikes and especially sportbikes specifically. age in relation to the mileage needs to be taken into consideration just as much. something newer with high miles has likely spent a lot of time just cruising around, commuting, or on highway trips and could be your better choice because of that. an older model with low mileage could have been used the same way, or it could have spent all its few miles balls to the wall strictly as a toy. something with abnormally low miles has probably been neglected in maintenance from lack of use as well at some point, and may need some things taken care of before it's a reliable daily rider. 8/3/2008 6:37:10 PM |

agree on all counts...
and yeah, pretty much the one thing i can think off that will turn me off from a bike every single time is any evidence than it's been stunted (i don't mean the occassional wheelie...I mean people who have the bike to do stunts). that's got oil starvation (and blown fork seals) written all over it. 8/4/2008 12:11:59 AM |

Yeah you can say I was still a biker noob when I bought my R6... I took a friend of mine to look over it before i bought it and he said it was fine and then two days later I noticed that the forkk seals were blown, the brake fluid dirty as hell and scuffs on the front wheel fender all indicating the bike had been beaten to hell.... Thanx to 69 my forkseals are fixed and I have done whatever i needed to do to fix whatever. It works fine, but i am still upset that I missed all those things until two days after i bought it. I also could have gotten a much better deal than what i paid... I was such a sportbike noob
But other than that... its worked like a champ and has been to the track... R6s are made for that sort of thing. Valentino Rossi will tell you that... Hurray for Ben Spies and his 2nd place victory after getting his appendix removed. If any of you are into AMA definitely check out the races from this past weekend... especially if you enjoy watching crazy wrecks!8/4/2008 12:04:33 PM |

Right outside Greensboro I had a guy whose passenger what looked like tried to high five my side mirror.
Cruise control on 75mph , i was in the slow lane and hadn't moved for over 10 miles. Is this a common practice for shits and gigles or did I do something wrong ( i hope not) ? I try to avoid any kind of drama with bikers. You guys are dealing with enough idiots as is!

^^Rossi does not ride an R6. His bike actually has very little in common with yours.
^It would not be unheard of for a biker to knock off/try to knock off a mirror if you pissed him off. Its one of those things the dumb asses do to try to pick fights with people in vehicles that are 6 times their weight...
I'm guessing you did something to annoy him and just didn't realize it. Either that, or hes just one of those immature assholes who think destroying other peoples shit is cool.

^^did they actually hit the mirror, or did you just happen to notice an arm motion as they came by? could have just been a hand signal for a lane change maybe? arm out in an "L" position is the legal way to indicate a movement/turn to the right... could be mistaken for a high five.
i can't really think of many things you might have unknowingly done just cruising along in the same lane at a steady speed. toss something out the window like a cigarette butt or some other bit of trash? spray your windshield with washer fluid? like ^ said, there are just some people that like the "thrill" of doing things like that. i even know a few guys that used to ride around looking for police sitting somewhere. they'd knock on the window, flick them off, do a burnout, or something to instigate them then take off.

Hmm, yeah I also wonder if they were pissed at him. People don't think before they do shit, they'll just throw shit out the window. Hell I had somebody throw a cassette tape out the window of their car at 70mph. It nailed my windshield and exploded and I went fucking nuts, luckily it didn't do any damage but it would have sucked if I'd been on a bike at the time.
People will run directly over debris all the time too, not considering that it's going to go flying up in the air behind them. That happened today with a tire chunk. I don't ride close to other cars though, especially at speed, so I was able to simply avoid the tire chunk after the chunk settled down a bit and stopped going all over the place.

duh you dumb shit... He's rides motoGP.... But he does ride a Yamaha... and he is definitely my fav rider...
He left Casey Stoner in the dust last race... He is soo much smoother than Stoner... Jesus Christ... I watch AMA and Moto GP racing every weekend with the exception of this weekend for MotoGP because they are on summer break until mid August.
But my point referring to Rossi is because he knows how a sportbike should handle... Those things are made to be pushed to the limit. Why do you think so many people prefer to track their bike than to ride on the street.
But in case anyoen is interested, I found a recap of the wrecks and the winners of the AMA superbike race at Mid-Ohio this weekend : http://odeo.com/episodes/23143303-AMA-Superbike-Mid-Ohio-Recap
Ben Spies also does MotoGP but he really isn't that good yet because he just started racing

I def didn't throw anything out of my window. I try to steer clear of things in the road as I value my front bumper. It may have been a hand motion as bigblueram mentioned. If he was pissed at anyone it should have been the guy in the fast lane that wouldn't speed up or slow down. I use cruise 90% of the time on the highway at exactly 10mph over and don't oscillate. I also only use the left lane to pass (im a dying breed).
He ended up splitting between the both of us and that's when i saw the arm swing out. Maybe he was just trying to get my attention so I wouldn't get closer.
Oh well, was just wondering if there was some rationale behind it.8/4/2008 6:06:53 PM |

At first I thought he was talking about a Buell XB12, but when I looked at them again it's just that with one light on it seems like one is bigger than the other. Also, from certain angles it seems that way with them both on (Like in the photo below). I'm not sure if that's because only has one high beam or what though. There are a lot of different XB12's btw. I like the way they look and the specs seem good, but I don't know whether or not I would own a Buell. I honestly don't know anything about their reliability and I don't know how much I want an air cooled engine.

Just bought this fairing kit for my bike. Hopefully it wont take long to get here from Hong Kong
\
Also, does anyone know if integrated brake/signal lights are legal in NC? My 600rr currently doesnt have any signal lights on it...just the brake light. I'd like to keep the clean look, but just integrate the signals into the brake light (not the safest idea, but safer than NO signals at all...)

I don't know if they're legal, but I have had lots of people recommend them to me, including people who worked at the dealership. Due to that I got the feeling that they might be, but I ended up getting a fender eliminator kit with smaller flush fitting turn signals. Of course, you can thank me for being so helpful whenever you get a chance.
Btw, I can't see any difference from the stock RR fairings. I mean, I love the look of the stock fairings on the bike, although I hate those massive rear fenders that all bikes seem to have from the factory. But what is changed on the new fairings?

hmmm...never ridden an F4, but this could be a lot of bike for the money, esp if he'd take $1000 or even $1200 for it. apparently it ran well, but then sat for 6-8 months and only got started and ridden around the yard once...now it won't start. he thinks the carbs are gummed up.
for that price, i could keep it as a track bike/weekend toy, then have another, nicer bike for everyday riding...hmmm. i figure prob a few hundred bucks to get it in good running condition...worst case, if it needs a whole new engine, that could prob be found for <$1000, easily.
anyone ridden an F4, particularly of that vintage? how's the handling? 8/11/2008 8:57:32 PM |

how much longer is the learning curve and is it actually worth the pita shuffling bikes all around to learn on a smaller bike and then bump up to a slightly larger one? 8/12/2008 8:01:18 AM |

Personally it wasnt that big of a leap. However, the nice thing about a smaller bike is you have much less chance killing yourself doing something stupid/ fucking up.
With a 600 supersport it can be easy to let it get away from you.
I think it helps to get the basics down, before your worrying about bombing into some corner at 100 mph and realizing that A. you don't know how tight the turn is and B. that you shouldnt get on your brakes in a corner. C. that tree is really really hard.
Personally i made alot of mistakes on my first bike. Thigns that had i been riding the 600 might have caused an accident.
Also the bike market is pretty liquid, you can pretty much by sell or trade and get whatever you want.
Ohh yea i got integrated hotbodiies taillight, and its really nice (600rr)

it's worth it.
get an inexpensive bike to learn on...some old beater, ninja 500, older SV650, etc. ride it for a while (like at LEAST 6 months)...then get a 600 supersport if that's what you want. i wouldn't get a 750 or liter machine until you've been on the hot 600 for a couple of years (personally I think liter bikes are pointless, for the most part. i'd rather have a 600...but if you want one, don't jump into it until you're a really good rider).8/12/2008 4:50:45 PM |
