KING DOUCHEBAG HERE
WHILE TIPPING IS CLEARLY A TROUBLESOME PRACTICE, IT LOOKS LIKE IT'S HERE TO STAY. KERRY SEGRAVE, AUTHOR OF TIPPING: AN AMERICAN SOCIAL HISTORY OF GRATUITIES, EXPLAINS, "TIPPING ENABLES THE TIP GIVER TO FEEL POWER.'
"IT REINFORCES A SENSE OF SUPERIORITY IN A SOCIETY THAT SAYS IT DOESN'T BELIEVE IN CLASSES, AND IT ALLOWS AMERICANS TO ESTABLISH FEELINGS OF DOMINANCE AND SUPERIORITY OVER OTHERS.'
"IT'S ALL ABOUT CONTROL."
INDEED, IT SEEMS AMERICANS LIKE TO DECIDE WHAT WAGES THEIR SERVICE PROVIDERS TAKE HOME. FIFTY-SEVEN PERCENT OF RESPONDENTS ARE ANNOYED WHEN A SERVICE CHARGE IS INCLUDED IN THE BILL, A PRACTICE THAT PREVAILS IN EUROPE, AND 9 PERCENT REFUSE TO PAY IT.
ON THE OTHER END OF THE SPECTRUM, A SURPRISING 11 PERCENT PERSIST IN LEAVING A TIP ABOVE AND BEYOND "SERVICE INCLUDED," WITH 16 PERCENT OF PEOPLE AGED 18 TO 34 OFFERING UP EXTRA PENNIES. THE WAY WE TIP CLEARLY REFLECTS THE KIND OF PEOPLE WE ARE - OR MIGHT LIKE TO BE. 3/10/2008 6:47:14 PM |

last time i got my hair cut at the mission valley great clips, the lady's entire extended family came to visit her and was staring straight at me, so of course i felt obligated to give her a better tip than she deserved. speaking of hair cuts, i'm getting one tomorrow, where should i go? preferably better than the m.v. great clips, but also not in the $100+ range 3/28/2008 12:00:22 AM |

ok, what about servers at a wedding? We are paying thousands of dollars in service fees in the first place, and it's a buffet. Do I need to tip the servers on TOP of the thousands we are already paying for service? (the food, etc are all separate... they are JUST service fees.) 3/28/2008 7:03:43 AM |

I remember when we got married, the contract for our reception specifically said "service not included."
However, the reception hall (downtown sheraton) was "free" since we had 100 guests at $29.95 a head (or something similar) with no extra charge for the staff other than tipping them out. 3/28/2008 8:02:13 AM |

so I guess since the service is included, tips aren't required for these guys to get a fair paycheck? 3/28/2008 8:18:44 AM |
