My school was lame...didn't even offer algebra to 7th graders. My whole 7th grade year of math I didn't learn a thing. I obviously didn't go to a great school.

haha so was i. I was in algebra in the 7th grade, got kicked out for being too immature, then the same thing happened again in the 8th grade so I was like everyone else in 9th grade taking geometry. Damn how they waited until my senior year to do block scheduling. I took the sat/psat and all that Duke tip bullcrap more then than I did in HS. I think I scored 790 and 980. Never even took the official SAT and I have an associates degree, bachelors degree, and going for a masters.

"That test didn't mean anything, I still got in to state and graduated in 4 years"

And you did it with toenails falling off, and with me only yelling at you like half a dozen times. (Maybe a little more, I think it was only half a dozen times. Some of those arguments were great fun.)

And yeah, people who come to this university with an SAT score over 1400 aren't idiots for coming here. The design school program here is excellent. Engineering here is also excellent and it's cheaper to stay here to go all the way through your masters than it is to go to another school just for the bachelors (depending on your major that may or may not be acceptable).

There's also people who are in a boat like me: Your parents have enough money to send you to college, so the state requires them to pay for all of it and you aren't eligible for any scholarships at all. When this is the case, you look around for universities that aren't too expensive, that have programs that you're interested in that are highly rated, and then you look at them in terms of which one's not too hell the far away because it'll be a lot easier to move 20 miles than it will be to move 500 miles. I could have probably gone to another university myself, but I figured making my parents spend 3-6 times as much on tuition would be a fucking shitty thing for me to do. So looking around here, NCSU was the best deal, it's very close to home, I was familiar with the campus because my brother went here (he's one of those 1400+ ones who went here and graduated from here with a 5-year architecture degree), and it had a shit ton of programs that I could choose from.

And to think, I originally thought I was going to do computer science. Thank god I changed my mind, and that NCSU had all those first year intro things to give you an idea of whether or not you would want to do one major over another.

Oh, and because this thread mentioned it:

REPRESENT! That shirt is older than hell and it's almost completely worn through (i.e. destroyed). I wore it for the longest time... I also can't remember what I got on it either. It was the most pointless program, and we definitely couldn't afford any of those little educational "camps" they give you brochures about after you qualify for it. You know, they had shit like math camp or something and computer camp and all of them cost over $500 or something.

I thought doing well on your SAT's and getting a good GPA qualified you for some major scholarships. There was an article on MSN 2 or 3 years ago on why middle class kids got more scholarships, which of course got poor people up in arms.

I don't know. I got into State, I am not at State to pursue my own thing, I may come back to State.

1410

720 verbal

690 math

I never understood why the verbal part has words in it that are NEVER used. Seriously, you don't even see them in esoteric articles in academic journals.

I didn't study and was high, drunk, and hungover all at the same time while taking the test. Regardless, I still scored a perfect 1600. Now I've one upped all you lying bastards in this thread.

Hmm, in 7th grade I got a 980; in 11th grade I got an 1180.

I was however 3rd in my high school class, and our high school at the time was first in the county for academics.

At best I think the SAT only establishes a baseline of probability of success in college.

1240 first try, 11th grade I think... did it drunk and stoned, didn't bother to take it again

also had the highest wake county asvab ever at the time when I considered military

I've gotten much more dumb since then and still can't do math at all

You could have gotten into somewhere better than NC State. You didn't. And you're proud of it. Good work."

I was 8/8 on undergrad acceptances, including Harvard, Stanford, Duke, and Tulane. However, I knew going into the decision that I was planning on going to grad school; once you have a graduate degree, no one cares where you went to undergrad, and NCSU is good enough to get you into any grad school you want, so it came down to money. I got half scholarships to all four of those others I mentioned, which was still over $20K/year at all four. So I went to NCSU instead.

And yes, after graduating, I went to grad school at Cambridge in England on a Gates Scholarship, so it worked out just fine for me.

The same parents that were too cheap to pay for me to take the SAT in 7th grade were also too cheap to pay for any school out of state, or more than 2 applications. Most of my dad's side of the family graduated from NC State as well, so it was pretty much mandatory. I would have preferred a smaller school.

I think you misunderstand the value of the score on this test... the SAT is hardly a score of genius. It's more accurately a test of "whether or not a person tests well"."

OMG Someone on the Internet CORRECTED ME!!

1440

went to State for engineering. paid my own way with jobs, scholarships, and luckily only a little bit of loans. I think State was a great choice. why go to MIT or Duke and graduate with 80,000 of debt? In fact, say I got a $20k a year scholarship to Duke. That's a big scholarship, but I'd still have to pay $20k more, about twice as much as NCSU.

In 7th grade, 1120.

In high school, 1540.

Came here because I didn't think I was smart enough to go to Carnegie-Mellon and didn't eveb apply. Yeah, I'm dumb.

I am still questioning the credibility of this thread...

I scored 1280 (circa 2000)

1300 was the highest score in my 1A H.S. my senior year

I studied my math pretty hard because I was trying to get into NYU. Which I did accomplish, but came to NCSU for financial reasons.

My 1300 GRE felt pretty sweet, since by that point I was of the "fuck studying" mindset.
