"interesting article. interesting he mentioned that it'd be dangerous w/ higher water flow. haven't people drowned in the creek before (maybe around the lassiter mill area) when we've gotten substantial rainfall and its risen?"

Yeah Crabtree Creek can be quite dangerous when it swells from real heavy rains. I'm sure you've all seen the pictures of Crabtree Valley Mall completely flooded, the creek is where all that water comes from.

I'm not sure how many people have died, but back in ~1998 a guy from Broughton died at Lassiter Mill, some of my friends were actually with him. They went swimming during one of the times that it flooded and he got sucked under the dam or something. I think that his name was Jackson and that he was a wrestler.

I was friends with him had a bunch of classes with him. he was letting the water push him off the dam at lassite mill and never came up. same year wade edwards died. smath74 was friends with him. people got suspended for spraypainting his jersey number in front of the gym. yet john edwards erected a 100 ft. memorial for wade on a public school campus

The beach in front of the dam was a very popular swimming spot from 1900-1930's(maybe earlier and later, but during that period that beach was actually crowded, as I understand it). I'd imagine the drownings are why there are "no swimming" signs there now.

GG Mr Grace. This is a freaking awesome idea. I'm definitely in, I got my raft from Walmart tonight. CrazyJ said he'd probably come too, and a few others. I sent you a PM.

I'm excited.

we just went to Lassiter mill to see if anyone was there, but I think it was too late. also they seem to be doing something with the mill/dam.

sorry i wasnt feeling so good yesterday...

there were maybe 20 or so people there. saw a group in the water as we were walking down so theres no telling how many people went down on their own.

no advanced notice and buying out all the rafts in raleigh hurt turnout this time, but we will be doing it again and trying to come up with a good date a few weeks/ month out so people have time to pick up their rafts ahead of time.

The water level had dropped a bit so we did have to get out a few times during the first mile but after that it was all gravy.

here are a few pics i took

looks good, but honestly the smaller boats do better. some of the creek was rather shallow, and if you have a cooler or are heavier, you just sink the middle of the boat.
