i don't want to hike 151.2 miles

hiking is just walking where it's okay to pee.

sometimes old people accidentally hike

Kent, CT....this place is ritzy as fuck, but the people have been nice. There are no hostels here, only inns and they are ~100 dollars a night I wouldnt be trying to stay, but i'm meeting my aunt out this way for some lunch or late breakfast....i think ill stealth it in the woods near by....that fucking storm is coming though

~725 miles done. Next state is NY and i'm gonna pass the largest oak on the AT which is i think 20 ft in circumfrence...baang

After Nerdchick and i parted in vermont i hiked by myself for 4 days, which wasnt so bad, but it got pretty lonely. I finally caught up to some people a few days ago and they are a trip. 25 year old marines who act like high schoolers. They have the best stories about being over seas as well as trail stories.

They got this 47 year old woman who was hiking the trail to give them bjs in exchange for a bowl. Named her protein shot

You cruisin the strip for some hens in your pimped out ram?

One of those marines almost got taken away for indecent exposure over at the laundromats.

it did...he was washing his clothes and only had a towel on and was flailing about i guess....anywho, the coper came and took him outside after he put some wet clothes on...

The fuzz said someone called him in.

well i just talked to him and apparently i missed a confrontation with the owner and the two marines....they said they are walking to the next shelter to wait out the storm....fuck...i dunno what i'm gonna do about that...the next shelter isnt too far away, but i need to be back tomorrow to meet up with my aunt....hmmmm

Stick with the marines, and bring back some good stories, son. I can see you quite enjoying yourself with them

As for protein shot...I envision someone looking like garbage can homeless lady on Hillsb - you know, the kinda-redhead whose tongue sticks out and she can't talk right because of it.

^^ it's makin me all gimp...hopefully a pint of ice cream and a good meal will help out...

haha...yeah, the marines are too funny. I think i'm gonna stick with them as long as we are hiking at about the same pace. One guys name is creature (he calls his sperm his creatures) and the others is dare....dare is for the most part quite, but this creature guy....man....he's just one of those people who make good stories....

yesterday i introduced him to the blueberry (he didnt really see any is what he said...i think he just didnt realize what they were or what they grew on)...anyways, later on in the day we came across a tree that had big "berries" on it and before i could say "NO" he through some in his mouth...i told him he was dumb and that they werent blue berries....he was all "they're not, they're grapes" bwwwuaaahahaha...took him a few to spit em out and thats when i told him that grapes grow on vines and not trees...as far as i know

LOL...it probably was...that sorry sack of shit....guy was a total asshole when we played uno...it's like, dude, uno sucks, quit getting all into it.

I'm in new haven, ct right now. My aunt who was going to come visit me in kent wouldnt have me out in the storm, so she drove 1.5 hrs to come let me stay at her house....i kinda wanted to wait out the storm in the shelter, but oh well.

Anywho, so i'm waiting near this restaurant with another hiker and this lady comes out and asks if weve eaten...we replied with a no, and she went back in, came back out and informed us that we had each 20 dollars to spend at this joint....i got a ny strip...trail magic ftw

Yeah but what did he do before he caught up to those people? Wander alllllllll alone in the scary universe? And he also mentioned that he'd stick with them if "they traveled the same pace as me" which I assume means he's on his own basically.

It's relatively safe (a lot safer than, say, raleigh), he's a dude, and you tend to catch up/drop back to other people, and hike with them for a while.

I hiked 9-10 miles yesterday on the Falls Lake trail. Not exactly the same without a pack or some mountains, but it was pretty sweet. I should have taken a Camelback, but I wasn't planning to go that far. My 16 oz of Gatorade ran out about 3.5 miles from the car.

yeah it took a while for me to learn how much water to bring. On a cool day I could do about 7 miles with one liter of water. TheBullDoza is like a camel, I had to persuade him to drink water.

I usually carry way too much, but at least it's easy to get rid of if you need to. Plus it's really nice to have enough to fully rehydrate before going to bed if you're camping.

ha, I know it's bad for you but I would purposely drink less water in the evening so I wouldn't have to pee at night In the morning I would guzzle a 20 oz before hiking so I think it worked out OK

Ideally, before retiring to camp I would have a 1 liter bottle and two 20 oz bottles of water. One liter is enough to make dinner and drink with enough left over to give TheBullDoza b/c he never got enough for himself The first 20 oz is to drink when I wake up, the second 20 oz is to carry with me in the morning until I reach a water source.

Hey guys!! I'm in Unionville, NY and at mile 844 of the trail. I'm staying at the mayor's house. He's the actual mayor of this small town and just loves having hikers around...cooks us meals and sells beers for a quarter a pop...pretty sweet. Things have been awesome. I've met a guy hiking his way back down from new hamshire (he started in the smokeys) to TN. Hikes around with his goat and has so many funny stories about his travels around the world....Anyways...too much to say and i'm sure yall dont wanna read anymore than you have. Here are some pictures.

^ lol those are my camp shoes. Homemade from a foam sleeping pad and string. Much lighter than any flip flops you can buy. It's nice to have something to wear around camp to let your feet dry out.

that being said, I know of people who thru hiked in chacos or even barefoot. I wore running shoes while hiking.

Retardedly silly question but where do you get fresh water while hiking?

I would love to do something like this but alas, I have bills to pay. Maybe next year I will schedule a week off or something and just head out.
