Just because Clinton said it, doesn't mean that the republicans are going to stop. Clinton said what he had to say about Obama, whether or not he believed it.

^^ you actually make a really good point there. but we all know that these conventions are 75% bullshit anyway. It's how you deliver that bullshit that determines whether it is a success or not.

Still there is no better person to say Obama is ready to lead than somebody who already knows what it takes to be president. Obviously the republicans aren't going to stop attacking because they want to win, but no better person could have made this case for Obama being ready to lead.

On PBS they made reference to a time when the teleprompter went down and Clinton was still able to deliver a great speech. If he didn't have a teleprompter I think Bill would be fine.

the thing is though, do you really need someone to vouch for the presidential nominee of the party?

its all a bunch of hogwash the media pumps up so they have something to talk about inbetween speeches

you either like the guy or your don't

unless you're like that crazy lady cnn interviewed last night after hillary's speech

and those are the people you have to be weary of....

It is great swapping between CNN, MSNBC, and FOX. Probably never a better time to see the gaps between the framing than partisan events.

MSNBC: Oh it was faaabulous oh boy oh boy. Loooooved it.
CNN: Democrats are energized, seems like a good night for them, what an enjoyable time.
FOX: Well that was that. Biden questioning McCain's judgement? What an a-hole. Now lets talk about how crappy Obama is.

Police in Denver arrested an ABC News producer today as he was attempting to take pictures of Democratic senators and VIP donors leaving a private meeting at the Brown Palace Hotel.

Police on the scene refused to tell ABC lawyers the charges against the producer, Asa Eslocker, who works with the ABC News investigative unit.

A cigar-smoking Denver police sergeant, accompanied by a team of five other officers, first put his hands on Eslocker's neck, then twisted the producer's arm behind him to put on handcuffs.

From Obama's Web-site.....

Quote :
"Our nation’s progress has been stifled by a system corrupted by millions of lobbying dollars contributed to political campaigns, the revolving door between government and industry, and privileged access to inside information-all of which have led to policies that favor the few against the public interest.
An Obama presidency will use cutting-edge technologies to reverse this dynamic, creating a new level of transparency, accountability and participation for America’s citizens."

I guess having the police arrest reporters is part of the new level of transparency.

how exactly does he plan to use "cutting-edge technologies" to fight the power of lobbyists? Seems to me that all he really needs is something distinctly low-tech: his fucking pen.

For Obama tonight, opportunity, risk

Quote :
"DENVER - Barack Obama will take a significant political risk tonight when he accepts the Democratic nomination for president in a 76,000-seat stadium on a stage set with faux-Greek columns [Sweet Jesus. ], accompanied by a cast of world-famous pop stars and fireworks."

Quote :
"The white-washed plywood columns in particular became the fodder for much merriment yesterday, as aerial photos of the stage set made them look like a papier-mache Acropolis.

Republicans, who have taken to ridiculing Obama as 'The One,' mocked the 'Temple of Obama,' and advised reporters on what styles of togas they might wear to the event. Democrats retorted by circulating a photo of President Bush flanked by faux neoclassical columns for his acceptance of the GOP nomination in 2004.

'This does put [Obama] in an awkward setting where it's this, "I'm coming from Mount Olympus to save you" sort of thing - you have to be very careful with that imagery,' said Wayne Lesperance, a political scientist at New England College in Henniker, N.H., who also said the venue could create an 'exciting, invigorating, fun, upbeat atmosphere.'

Republican strategist David Winston said he found the columns puzzling more than anything.

'I just don't understand how it mixes with the theme of change,' he said. 'I would have expected something more high-tech.'"

http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2008/08/28/for_obama_tonight_opportunity_risk/

And please don't give me any of that "Bush did it, too" bullshit. (1) Bush is not the issue, and (2) Bush didn't portray himself as a messiah-like figure.

I still say that stage at the DNC looked like Parliament Funkadelic's "Mothership."
