I thought curves was the place where- there are no men- the machines are all in a circle- there's a constant YOU CAN DO IT GO GIRL GO cheerleader
2/8/2009 5:26:16 PM
i heard that the ceo of curves gives tons of money to anti-choice (reproductive) groups
2/8/2009 5:31:45 PM
That wouldn't surprise me.[Edited on February 8, 2009 at 5:40 PM. Reason : Google says it's true.]
2/8/2009 5:35:48 PM
Well right now curves is having a special. you get the first months fee free if you register now.
2/8/2009 5:40:07 PM
i already have a gym membership, and i would prefer not to give my money to someone that funds those wack-ass groups.
2/8/2009 5:42:05 PM
Well thank you for letting me know!

^That's kinda how I feel. While I don't agree with people, if they feel strongly about it then fine, at least they stand for something and they aren't one of those people that are apathetic about everything. Besides, this is abortion, both sides have equally valid points.

And as a consumer, you also have the right to not spend your money where ever you please, for what ever reason--including political ones.Curves sucks anyways ssss[Edited on February 8, 2009 at 9:34 PM. Reason : ]

So I'm moving back to Raleigh in July (likely getting a place downtown near State -- maybe Cameron Village?).No one I will be living with will be a State student/faculty/staff so I will have NO access to the NC State gym.I need some suggestions for a gym. The only requirement that I have is that it NEEDS to have basketball courts where I can find a full court pickup game weeknights. Does anyone have any suggestions? So far, it looks the Gold's at North Hill might but if there are more closer, that'd be awesome...(Oh, and I don't need a gym buddy But I'll play basketball when I move anytime with anyone on here...)[Edited on February 9, 2009 at 9:03 PM. 2/9/2009 9:02:18 PM
doesn't the YMCA have full pick up games? or would their weekends be overcroweded with little kid basketball? i know my brother plays bball at the Y a lot. and there's one on hillsb. street.oh oops you said weeknights, in which case, i think they definitely do[Edited on February 9, 2009 at 9:04 PM. Reason : .]
2/9/2009 9:03:46 PM
Yeah, I might check out the YMCA. I'm sure you can get a guest pass.I definitely want to play against at lest medium-high level competition. I can't get in to playing a bunch of high school kids who think they are God's gift... too frustrating for someone with my personality..Does it have a full gym too? Bball is just a hobby, but I need to work out too![Edited on February 9, 2009 at 9:06 PM. Reason : I've never used a YMCA before]
2/9/2009 9:05:34 PM
i think so. i haven't been to the hillsb. st. Y since it got renovated like last year. it looks really nice on the outside. the YMCA in n. raleigh that my brother played at had like extreme level bball players (like carlos boozer and his brother) and a bunch of good people. i don't know how the one on hillsborough would be. but they have a full gym (or should, i think most Ys do). the people at the Y in greensboro that play also seem to be at least medium-level players (the track goes around the court so i always see them playing). i think you just have to find the time where it is like adult pick up

well if anyone is a member at Curves and wants to go with me let me know.

get fucking serious. a gym is a place where men lift free weights. a fitness center is where "people" work out and stretch and waste 40 dollars on some nautilus machine that will destroy your tendons
2/9/2009 10:24:51 PM
well luckily most ymca's also have a full weight room! complete with free weights! what is a nautilus machine? is that like one of those TV machines? how does using weight room machines (like a lat pulldown) hurt your tendons? i mean if you are an idiot and don't use equipment properly, yea. but don't be an idiot. problem solved.p.s. what is wrong with stretching[Edited on February 9, 2009 at 10:28 PM. I think he's talking to sawahash
2/9/2009 10:28:57 PM
oh hahahaha curves???!!! i still don't get what that is, but your description doesn't make it sound fun.i'm not really so much of a cheerleader.
2/9/2009 10:29:36 PM
I asked for a reason.I had briefly looked into it, mentioned it to a friend, and she was like 'Oh, girl. No. I went with mom because we had a pass, and it's all in a circle and it's social and shit and you WOULD NOT like it!'That + the places where I usually see them (itty bitty store fronts in ghetto strip malls) was enough.I don't know if that's a factual representation or not, but what I read while googling the anti choice bit was enough to make me realize I really don't need to know anything more about that circlejerk.
2/9/2009 10:32:11 PM
because you cannot work through a full range of natural motion. there is no action you will ever perform with your muscles that will give them constant tension through the entire range. and when you start from a static position on a cable or tension added machine, you have to either use weight that is too light, or use some sort of improper form to get the weight moving. instead of a lat pulldown, why don't you do a pull up? you probably cannot do one, but besides that, they will give you a much more difficult and deeper contraction into your lats, rhomboids, traps, biceps, brachi, teres (major/minor)i'm sorry, do you want to talk about exercise science?
2/9/2009 10:32:34 PM
well y'all can bitch about Curves all you want, but my mom joined a year ago and lost tons of weight, I know several people that have really gotten back into shape with it. I've seen it work, and I know it can work on me.
2/9/2009 10:35:36 PM
^^ i'm not an idiot fuckwadthanks for being an asshole, glad we cleared that up. i asked a simple question and you acted like a douche. congrats!!!!! you win. die.

2/9/2009 10:40:16 PM
although i'm pretty sure i win since i can definitely do like 3 pull ups.

2/9/2009 10:51:31 PM
okay, if the boulder was suspended above your head, it would take a much larger contraction from your biceps than you could possibly produce; meaning you would have to squat the weight while holding the rope or jump up and let your momentum carry you down.if you could pull the boulder down, once the weight passed your chest you would be performing a lower lat pressdown, the bottom of which would require you to either remove all tension from the boulder or rest said boulder. either way, it is impossible to keep constant tension on all your muscles at the same time.
2/9/2009 10:54:34 PM
you didnt say ALL your muscles... I thought you meant it was impossible to do it for one muscle. Of course ALL muscles is impossible
2/9/2009 10:56:08 PM
but isn't that why people work out different groups of muscles?why do athletes still use machines to train? why do machines even exist? i'm confused.
