Incorrect. Even if the refineries go down, they are only responsible for 25% of the total refining capacity. And that's if ALL of them go down for an extended period. There is several days worth of fuel already in stock and in the pipelines. This should have a marginal effect on gas prices, but not creating a shortage. It's everyone running out now and buying up all the gas that is raising demand and then creating a shortage. If everyone had a little bit of sense, the damage to supply would be much less and this whole thing wouldn't be so much of a problem.Retard.

They are declaring a state of emergency in Kentucky b/c people are fighting at the gas stations as prices continue to risehttp://www.whas11.com/topstories/stories/WHAS11_080912_topstories_gas_prices.6be2bd8e.html
9/12/2008 1:36:02 PM
haha. 3.99 at one store down on Wilmington street and 3.69 on the corner of tryon/Wilmington. Traffic is backed up from idiots trying to get gas there.
9/12/2008 1:36:48 PM
Regardless of the cause, if it is reported that gas will be much more expensive in the coming days, people will fill up. You can't fault them for that, it's common sense to want to get in before the price hike. The people that fill up now will not be at the pump for a while, so everyone else can get their $5 gas. I don't see how there will be any more gas consumed over the course of the next few weeks based on what day people filled up.
9/12/2008 1:37:00 PM
I have not filled up. Currently I have about 1/4 of a tank in a gas guzzling SUV. I will likely fill up on Monday, whatever the prices are.^ It decreases the amount of fuel that is available over the term of the refinery/pipeline downtime. Thus makes it more difficult to find gas and making the price even higher over a longer period of time. Would you rather pay $3.50 a gallon now and $4.50 a gallon next week or $4.00 a gallon now and $5.50 next week? Because that's what's happening.[Edited on September 12, 2008 at 1:39 PM. Reason : *]

On Lake Wheeler: @ Carolina Pines = $4.09/regular@ the Texaco = $3.89/regular@ Tryon = $3.69/regularHaven't been to Garner yet. OMG WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE WITHOUT GASOLINE FOR THE WEEKEND AAAHHHHH!!!I blame supply and demand, like most of ye. *sigh* I need a scooter [Edited on September 12, 2008 at 1:39 PM. Reason : .]

^^^well if people were smart they should have filled up 2 days ago, or yesterday. Otherwise they're getting what they deserve*excludes people that drive so much that extra 1-2 days makes a difference.[Edited on September 12, 2008 at 1:39 PM. Reason : ^]
9/12/2008 1:38:49 PM
i filled up yesterday.... but i needed to anyways, going to the beach today will need to get some gas down there at some point....
9/12/2008 1:39:35 PM

raleighgasprices.com tells me that the Texaco in Zebulon is selling regular unleaded for $4.39/galGOODGOD!
9/12/2008 2:08:01 PM
i'd rather pay a premium price than have to sit in line at a cheaper gas station
9/12/2008 2:08:55 PM
Reading this thread has made me reluctant to even go 4 miles down the road to Lowes even though my motorcycle gets 65+ mpg. Thanks t-dub. I would likely just ride my bike there but sadly it isn't here yet. Ugh.
9/12/2008 2:09:10 PM
3.66 at the hess on trawick
9/12/2008 2:10:00 PM
I'm amazed that some stations have gone sky-high while others are still sitting low. I ate lunch at Char-Grill and the little Citgo next door was $3.71 for regular, and it was nearly empty (as usual for that station).
9/12/2008 2:15:57 PM
It's because it's Citgo and no one wants to support Hugo Chavez[/right wing talking point]
9/12/2008 2:17:23 PM
speaking of citgo @ trinity and edwards mill reg = $3.99
9/12/2008 2:36:40 PM
9/12/2008 2:41:39 PM
The full-service station in cameron village was, at 2pm, 3.71 and no lines.

its not what they paid for the gas they have now, thats why some are still at the low priceits what they are going to have to pay for the NEW shipmentlots of private stations are telling the trucks to just leave them out of deliveries because tehy cant afford to pay for the truck to stop and the people in the town wont pay it either.

Ha. I remember back when Katrina hit and those two piplines were down and gas shot up to a whopping $3.29 and everyone freaked the hell out. I would say those were the good 'ol days but even then it sucked.
9/12/2008 2:52:00 PM
crown at faircloth/gorman and hillsborough is $3.96 for regular...isn't there a law that says they can only up their price once every 24 hours? so it's stuck at that price?either way, my saturn (32mpg city) is still 3/4 full and the scooter (100mpg) is still 4/5 full (i think...when you can only hold 1.3 gallons, it's hard to tell )
9/12/2008 3:05:33 PM

Haven't read this thread, so this may have been pointed out. But gas panic can be a self-fulfilling prophecy. When people go nuts and buy gas, prices go up because of the huge increase in demand.
