I already posted the race cards as I figured they'd come into play.

BTW Brady Hoke (cracker) chosen by SDSU over DeWayne Walker (colored fella).

It was only a matter of time. Barkley playing the race card.

Auburn's AD is not racist, he is just down right retarded. Turner Gill is just one of many candidates that would be better than Chizik.

The man is the coach at BUFFALO.....I am tired of hearing about this.

Chizik was praised by many of his former Auburn players saying he was the perfect man for the job. You cannot look at 2 years at ISU, one of the worst BCS programs, and judge a coach.

Chizik has a pretty good track record as an assistant.

So what if the man is at Buffalo. Jim Valvano was the coach at Iona before taking over at NC State and I'd say he did just fine. The fact that Gill has just won the MAC Championship there should show how good of a coach he is. Buffalo was pretty much the worst D-IA program out there before he showed up. They went like 12 straight years without being favored in a game.

Key point. What Gill's done at Buffalo is pretty amazing, whereas Iowa State had been to several bowl games this decade, prior to Chizik becoming the coach. Everyone acts like Chizik was in some impossible situation there. Winning the Big 12 was probably a far-fetched goal, but bowl eligibility is something that has been accomplished as recently as four years ago.

Oh well if his former players praised him then he must be a good hire

I agree that it's too soon to say that Chizik is a bad head coach, but at the same time there is nothing at all impressive about winning 5 games in 2 seasons no matter where you coach. Maybe he turns out to be a good coach, but it's a total shot in the dark...they obviously should have stuck with Tuberville.

What really makes Chizik look bad is that he only won two games this year and that was without having Texas Tech, Texas or Oklahoma on their schedule

Their only wins were against South Dakota State and Kent State.

8/28 South Dakota State 1-0 (0-0) W 44-17
9/06 Kent State 2-0 (0-0) W 48-28
9/13 @ Iowa 2-1 (0-0) L 17-5
9/20 @ UNLV 2-2 (0-0) L 34-31 OT
10/04 No. 16 Kansas 2-3 (0-1) L 35-33
10/11 @ Baylor 2-4 (0-2) L 38-10
10/18 Nebraska 2-5 (0-3) L 35-7
10/25 Texas A&M 2-6 (0-4) L 49-35
11/01 @ No. 9 Oklahoma State 2-7 (0-5) L 59-17
11/08 @ Colorado 2-8 (0-6) L 28-24
11/15 No. 12 Missouri 2-9 (0-7) L 52-20
11/22 @ Kansas State 2-10 (0-8) L 38-30

I can't believe you can sit there with a straight face and say you would want this guy over another coach who wins a MAC Championship game with a team he scraped the of the side of a urinal only 3 years ago.

Maybe Auburn has an hidden agenda here. Its easy to see from their actions that they are not interested in winning any college football games in the next few years.

Its not great but its OK for Miss State. Getting skunked by your rival is never good, I'll give you that.

Just to refresh your memory, he went 8-5 last season.

Mike Tomlin is pretty damn impressive.

Turner Gill looks like a real up-and-coming coach.

Miss State is a terrible job. As Jackie Sherrill proved, the only way you can win there is to cheat.

NFL:

Mike Tomlin is doing this with Cowher's team and a pretty talented squad but we still say he is a good coach. Tony Dungy is the exception. Lovie Smith is decent. Three decent coaches.

Look at the others: Romeo Crennel has no clue. Dennis Green was up and down. Mike Singeltary has a decent start. Ray Rhodes was up and down. Herm Edwards I dunno how has a job. Marvin Lewis was a great defensive coordinator but has sucked as a head. Art Shell sucked.

College:

Turner Gill off to a decent start. Kevin Sumlin has been coach for one year.

Croom, Prince, Karl Dorrell, Fitzgerald Hill (San Jose State), Tony Samuel (New Mexico State), and Willingham were all fired or forced out.

^^Dorrell is kicking ass in Miami (NFL) as an assistant this year. Not that it really matters of course.

And DeWayne Walker will find a head job somewhere very soon, he's an assistant now but he'll be a successful black head coach somewhere - one of the first in many years.

Lewis has tried to clean that shit up several times in Cicy and the front office won't let him get rid of the players. That's a bad situation. The trouble is most black head coaches get their opporutities at garbage positions. Miss State and Kansas State are where football goes to die. Give it time, there are more black assistants now and once they get established as "program guys" they will start getting head coaching positions just like everyone else.

Case and point, Joker Phillips is the coach in waiting at Kentucky. He played at Kentucky, he was an assistant there, he is a coordinator there now, and he has been named the "coach in waiting." he paid his dues and now he is getting rewarded. I think and hope this happens more in the future.

Karl Dorrell, Ty Willingham.. they didn't have garbage jobs. Sylvester Croom might have had a tough one, but he should have been able to work out 6 wins most years. Randy Shannon certainly doesn't have a garbage job, but unless he starts cranking out 9-10 win seasons, which is the same expectation that Miami has of their WHITE coaches, he's gonna get canned.

Turner Gill might be burning it up at Buffalo (which he's not, he's just improved a garbage program) but he'll probably land somewhere that's average and produce below-average results.

People need to be given jobs based on their resume, not on the color of their skin. The Chizik hire blows my mind, but Auburn could have went after plenty of other white guys that had much stronger resumes than Gill. I'm still baffled that they didn't get a bigger name.

have you ever heard of carl torbush? because you can pretty much replace chizik's name with his in that statement and it'll still be true. good assistants do not necessarily make good head coaches, and a school like auburn really doesn't have the luxury of waiting on one to feel his way around

wtf BC... Jags calling that bluff.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3810186

Quote :
"Boston College coach Jeff Jagodzinski has been told he will be fired if he interviews for the head coaching vacancy with the New York Jets, which is scheduled for Monday, according to sources.

Jeff Jagodzinski has been head coach at Boston College the past two seasons.

Despite the threat from athletic director Gene DeFilippo, Jagodzinski plans to do the interview with the Jets, the sources said. Those sources said that in the event Jagodzinski is fired, BC would promote offensive coordinator Steve Logan to head coach.

According to the sources, DeFilippo first told Jagodzinski on Saturday that he would fired if he interviewed and then reinforced the school's position Sunday. Jagodzinski declined to comment when reached by ESPN.

BC spokesman Chris Cameron told ESPN's Joe Schad the school would have no comment. But another BC source said Jagodzinski informed his coaching staff of the development this weekend after at least two discussions with DeFilippo.

The Jets did not have a reaction or confirm they are interested in Jagodzinski, but ESPN and other news outlets have reported his candidacy.

Jagodzinski, 45, has been head coach at Boston College the past two seasons, with the team finishing first in the ACC's Atlantic Division each year. In 2007 the Eagles went 11-3, including a victory over Michigan State in the Champs Sports Bowl. This past season, BC finished 9-5 after losing to Vanderbilt in the Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl.

Prior to coming to BC, Jagodzinski had worked as an NFL assistant since 1999. He was tight ends coach for the Packers from 1999-2002, then served in the same role for the Falcons in 2003 and '04 before moving up to be Atlanta's offensive line coach in '05. He then went back to Green Bay as offensive coordinator for the 2006 season before BC came calling.

Before coming to the NFL, Jagodzinski served on college staffs since 1989 with East Carolina, LSU, Northern Illinois, and Wisconsin-Whitewater (his alma mater)."

Now you see why TOB wanted to leave BC. DeFilippo is a stupid, control freak. It should be a selling point for your program that you head coach is being pursued by an NFL team. Jags probably won't get the position anyway with so many decent candidates out there right now that have head coaching experience in the NFL. Also an employer should always want what is best for their employee even if that means that they lose them. You shouldn't try and prevent someone from getting a better paying and more high profile job that could elevate their life.
