NFA weapons ( machine guns) are status symbols because they are hard to legally obtain and expensive as hell. Practial use is not the question. how many Ferraris do you see rolling around? they are expensive, gas heavy and seat two, not very practical but status symbols. Obama will stand on the dem platform and that will include gun legislation to "make our streets safer". when the ban expired in 04, was there blood in the streets? Have you ever heard of someone being bayoneted? Been killed with rifle mounted grenades? then why ban those features?

And, yes, more guns does mean less crime--more guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens, that is. And how do you stop gun violence? By catching and locking up or executing those that commit such acts--and there are plenty of laws already on the books right now for this to happen.

the concealed carry ban won't pass...due largely in part to the fact that the vast majority of states support concealed carry on their own, as it stands right now

and even then, you're bitching because you can't HIDE your weapon (it's not like you can't still carry it openly, yes?)

i think "gun nut" is a pretty accurate term for a lot of you people...and i have 7 guns myself (though no handguns...i've yet to learn to shoot)

i also have a mauser from WWII that was my grandfather's (i've hunted with this one before), a rifle, and a shotgun...i'm not so terrified that i feel the need to carry a gun with me everywhere i go, so this hardly impacts me...without knowing more, i agree that the pistol-grip and heat shield things seem like really stupid reasons to ban a gun, but i can understand the magazine capacity (after all, how many shots do you need to carry with you to go to the movies?)
