what hasnt been explained in this thread, and what I want to know, is what's the average span of breast-feeding a child?

I just dont understand the mentality of whipping your tit out in front of others... if there's nipple confusion, go feed in the car/minivan... or if thats too much trouble, stay at home. If these women feel the need to drag their child out and about while they shop and dine, fucking suck it up and use a pump or feed in the car.

there's a time and a place for everything folks.

Unfortunately, in the US it is less than a year. The AAP recommends at least one year and the WHO recommends two years. In the US, you don't often find women who breastfeed longer than 1 year.

And how did an thread about photographs of breastfeeding turn into an argument about public breastfeeding. I think that there is a bit of a difference.

Parents take pictures of their kid's first bath, but they don't wash the kid in the middle of Golden Corral.

At the bottom of page three they noted that sitting in a dirty bathroom might not be the best place to breast feed.

It's like you want all mothers who breast feed a child to move to Africa or something where it is acceptable.

It's a baby and a bottle for goodness sake. Just look the other way. It's not comfortable for either parties I wouldn't think...I'm going out on a limb here but I'd bet some mothers are not seeking attention by breastfeeding in public and are embarrassed by it...but hey, who knows. Maybe they're all attention seeking whores with nasty breasts.

no, if it was a baby and a bottle it would be perfectly fine.

and if a baby won't drink from a bottle, it is obviously not hungry enough, so it can wait.

I don't understand why everyone feels like they have to look.

Most of the women that I have seen in public breastfeeding are so discreet that I'd not even sure that they're feeding their child or cuddling him.

I don't know what kind of majority you guys are talking about. I'm willing to bet that most people don't notice or care.

It is their site and they can do what they want, but they have some wonderful groups for mothers and there is some educational value to some of the pictures. Like tandem nursing or nursing in a sling. Some of the pictures are helpful to the newbies.

There is no reason why a woman NEEDS to put a picture of herself breastfeeding on a social networking site... ever

Where do you hang out where you see hordes of women flopping their breasts around while breastfeeding? I'm curious why I've never witnessed this phenomenon.

I've only seen one woman breastfeeding in public that I felt was too much, but she wasn't wearing something that allowed her to be private about it, she pulled up her shirt and her bra and her belly was hanging out. I didn't much appreciate that.

But most women wear special breastfeeding bras, and often times will wear shirts that make it very easy for her to pop out her tit for her baby without people even realizing what they are doing.

However, you don't need to whip out your tit in church...that's what they have nurseries for...to nurse your child.

Haha. I've seen that woman breastfeeding her 8 year old.

I am all for extended breastfeeding. Most women in the US do not breastfeed long enough, but even I raise my eyebrows at that lady.

oh the melodrama.

This isn't a civil rights issue, no one here is debating the merits of breast-milk and only a few are arguing for public bottle feeding instead of natural breast feeding. No one is calling for public bans on breast feeding. All that most people are asking for is discretion when doing so.

"But, but, but, I'm a MOM! My life is so rough! Everyone needs to know what I'm going through and how wonderful this is and how many sacrifices I'm making!" Because it isn't just about you and your baby. There are greater considerations in the world that your little nuclear unit. You don't need to stage a "breast in" in your van just to prove a point. Just use a blanket if you can't go anywhere else, go to the car if you have to, sit in a quiet corner of the mall, hell most malls have maternity stores, go stand there. Everyone else was a baby at one point, and each of them had a mom. You're not special.

That being said, the Facebook ban is pretty lame but, again, it is their website.

Mothers going to facebook for education on parenting issues have much bigger problems than not seeing breast-feeding photos on their favorite social networking site.

I don't care one way or another about breat-feeding photos, but I don't think it should be an issue if facebook bans them. When you sign up, you have to agree to rules and terms. If you don't like them, don't join the site.

Police say Allanah Earley, 36, left a bar drunk and stumbled down the street in the cold with the infant.

She eventually made it to a friend's house where she continued drinking and began breast feeding. "

If all of you women are going to bitch about this, how would you react to me taking a piss in public? Or a nice big dump? When you've got to go, you've got to go.

It is a natural thing, it has to be done. Oh, there's a place for me to take care of things like that, things that most people don't care to see? The bathroom?

Why can't women take minute and go somewhere private and do what they have to do? I mean, I'm not a woman so I can't possibly understand what a nursing mother goes through, but that doesn't mean all logic has to be abandoned.

^^^ There's a big difference between breast feeding and taking a dump in public. Breastfeeding doesn't cause diseases if done in inappropriate places last I checked

people tend to go to bathrooms when they change their babies. they have special stations set up for it. Feeding a baby is important. they should have stations set up for that too

i honestly don't see it out much. last time i was at the DMV and it was standing room i'm just chillin and the lady that was facing me just went up and over. True, I didn't have to look. but to avoid not looking i would have either had to play on my cellphone the entire time(which i did)... or actually get up and walk away. fact is. when you see it... you are either going to say "awwww" because you are probably a mother who is currently doing the same thing or "um... is she really doing that here?" Like talking on the cellphone. some people may be very interested in what you are saying but overall you should probably do it in a way that won't bother most people.

oh and i loved the comparison to fat people eating. because it is disgusting for fat people to eat but decent for skinny people to eat. Oh look thats such a chubby lil baby... you shouldn't feed him... thats gross.

overall if it is in their rules then you can't complain about it. there are plenty of sites that are cool with it. probably some that are meant for it and all of its educational glory. Personally i think the biggest problem is that people clutter facebook by using it more as a photo hosting site than a social network site.

we see unnatural things all the time, people put disgusting shit into their bodies, and then to see something natural, people get all freaked out and offended.
