This is probably not a new statement in this thread but...

1. I think a taller person who can hold onto the rails much easier should give up their seat to a short person who can't reach the rails. Or at least someone standing next to a rail that goes down to the floor should let a short person grab that. There are too many people on the busses that watch short people stumble around the whole ride and not do anything about it.

2. I enjoy when men open doors for me, pay for me, and are gentlemen, BUT I also do the same in return. I would open a door for a man, and pay for him too.

3. I do think that common courtesy is dead.

I'm so torn between wondering if she's trolling or serious

If it's supposed to be satirical or tongue-in-cheek, it wasn't carried off too well, because usually they have an underlying message they're making fun of, and are more clever with their sarcasm and jokes, but this just comes off as whiny more than anything

At the same time, the ridiculousness of the 'books, texting, ipod' line almost has to be trolling or else this girl really is a princess and has some major issues

but the campus forum the past few days sure took it seriously didn't they, she's getting it with both barrels

This was one of the dumbest articles I have ever read and I was nominally ashamed to say that I write for the same section. This was a stupid column that shouldn't have been printed and as a girl, I was offended that the author would assume I am not fit to stand on the bus.

I give up my seat for old people and handicapped people, but I expect no one to give up their seat for me. Not saying it isn't nice that a guy might offer, but I generally turn him down...he was there first, after all. It's a bus for crying out loud...

i mean, I know plenty of people who have worked at Technician that do their best to make it a quality publication

If all men starting doing this en masse, then there would be some group of women somewhere that would start complaining about that. I think the sometimes yes, sometimes no, but probably not approach has struck a nice balance with both outlier groups.
