this is the shit. period. not that one would ever need to control a turbo. the duty would be much better left to the ecm. it's just cool as fuck. i'm also a big fan of fleece performance.

I had a guy who wanted to buy my Ram, until he realized that it wasn't a diesel.

I tried to explain that it's even more studly than a Cummins of comparable years, but he wanted a diesel "so he could pull a big trailer".

so i have finally decided to keep the suspension stock, and run some 285/65/18's on 18x9 dale jr cannon natural/black rims with a 4.5" backspace, should give it a better stance and look than the tiny stockers

exhaust, tuner, cai, bedliner, folding hard tonneau cover, and some window tint are also in the works soon and it will be done

moving to goergia has slowed me up a little on the progress

going with a turbo back exhaust for an lbz, it only needs a few hangers moved, othewrwise identical to the lmm that only has "filter back" exhasts available

Noone has anything to say but "dont get X, X is a peice of shit!"... and no I am not buying a fucking 6.5 truck, but it was fun fuckin with you guys for a while.

The reality is that the Cummins is a great motor, but the Dodge fuel system is shit, and there are some transmission issues. The Powerstroke 7.3 is a great engine, but there are some transmission issues. The Duramax Chevy/GMC trucks have the auto transmissions figured out, but there are some fuel injector issues. In the end, finding the truck that fit my criteria was proving to be impossible.

1. must be diesel (7.3 Powerstroke, 5.9 Cummins, Duramax)
2. must be automatic so the wife can drive
3. must be dually
4. must not be single cab
5. $8,000 price range

The first thing to go out the window was the transmission preference, at which point I found what seemed to be the ultimate Dodge, an 02 Dually with the 6 gear and the 4.10 rear end. Major bonuses in that it already had the towing mirrors, hadnt been hot rodded but it had already gotten a new clutch, lift pump and injection pump. Of course, it was just far enough out of the price range to be a problem.

Then I loosened the dual rear wheel preference a little and found some nice Dodges but noone knew about the pumps, all they knew is that they wanted 10 to 18 THOUSAND bucks?? I kept finding more Fords but lets face it, 7 out of 10 ford diesels left the lot brand new and went to work and the economy in its slump the past couple years hasnt really left most work trucks high on the "well maintained" list. There were nice trucks with 500k, shitty trucks with 100k, and everything in between. After a while I got sick of looking at the damn things. Honestly now if I did find a great deal on one I would just buy it to flip and nothing more. Duramax trucks are all too expensive- UNLESS they have a service bed on the back. Even then, most are single cab and I am not trying to spend $2K getting a bed and painting it.

Now where am I? I dunno.

in all seriousness, isnt that desired price a pipe-dream for the specs you require?

nut up and get a commonrail.

He could likely find a 12V that fit the criteria.

Edit:

Fucking Perfect for you, primer http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ct=u&car_id=265665666&dealer_id=58020726&car_year=1997&doors=&systime=&listingCounter=5&model=RAM3502WD&adModel=RAM3502WD&search_lang=en&style_flag=1&start_year=1996&keywordsrep=&keywordsfyc=&highlightFirstMakeModel=&search_type=both&lastStartYear=1981&distance=500&min_price=&rdm=1257863743421&drive=&marketZipError=false&advanced=y&fuel=Diesel&listingPriority=20&keywords_display=&end_year=1998&showZipError=y&make2=&certified=&engine=&adBodyStyle=&page_location=findacar::ispsearchform&body_code=0&transmission=&default_sort=priceDESC&max_mileage=&address=27292&color=&sort_type=priceDESC&adMake=DODGE&max_price=&awsp=false&adClassSeries=&make=DODGE&seller_type=b&num_records=25&cardist=329

But stretching your price range up towards 10k would open up a lot of doors, I think, compared to 8k

The LB7 (01-04 Dmax) did have injector issues but GM extended the warranty on those for 200K. The injector issue was corrected beginning with the LLY (04.5-05 and some 06 models) but some doing heavy towing on steep grades encountered overheating issues. The LBZ (06-07) isn't having any issues at all as the overheating problem was corrected with a larger fan and cooling shroud (think ram-air using the two holes in the front bumper and the shroud utilizing the holes to direct air up and through the radiator.). Also, the Allison 1000 received a 6th gear (think double overdrive). The LMM (07.5-present) received a slight bump in power (+5/+10 to 365/660) to compensate for the added DPF.
IMO, I'd look strongly at a LBZ if you want trouble-free longevity without the hassle of emission testing if you can fork over the cash. However, if the 06-07 LBZ Dmax is out of your price range i'd probably consider a 7.3 powerstroke. Don't get me wrong, i think the Cummins is an awesome engine. However, i feel like it's a 500K engine in a 200K truck.

YA THINK? I could go with as high as 15K, hell why stop there, but the whole point of this endeavor is to not have a payment so I am sticking with my budget.

Only Duramax trucks I can afford are LB7s with over 200k.

Got to agree there, but I feel the same way about the 7.3 Superduty trucks. Now I see why you, Keith, and Danny all bought brand new trucks. But I think I can get a good truck in my price range, and I am partial to Chevy trucks anyhow.

IIRC you only got half the truck you wanted, and had to build the other half yourself?

LOL The new owner of the Escalade picked it up yesterday, I can not express how happy I am to be rid of the TWO insurance policys we had on that truck, as well as the $370/month payment. In all honesty though, in 2 years and 20,000 miles I replaced a $13 Transfer case output seal and did regular oil changes, replaced wiper blades, and that was it. Right before we sold it though one of the steering wheel control lamps and one of the tag lamps went out. Sold the truck, paid it off and came out of the deal with enough cash to buy a replacement.

quite a low blow man, I'm only hounding on you because I enjoy conning someone into buying a new vehicle.

As for my truck, I had a vision back in 2007 that I brought into reality with my own hands. It's not finished obviously, and goddamn do I love chasing the completion of a most epic project!

If only Dodge had the foresight to produce a truck in the correct configuration, then all the work wouldn't have been necessary. Alas, hurley played the cards dodge dealt him.
