good luck getting a loan at a bank for a car. most banks are lookin for a 680 or close to it, to give you a loan.

the problem is gonna be that they hate lending money for older cars. and I'm not really sure how much income you have/can prove so that will obviously matter too..credit score alone won't get you a loan these days. dealerships have some shady as shit financing that can get just about anybody approved but you pay for it in the long run

Tell me about it. Credit Union said, "Oh, with a score like yours, you can get any car you want financed up to $35k." I come back with a 2007 Lotus Elise (this was in late 2008). They said, "eh, anything but that..." I come back with a 2004 z06. "eh... try something more 'practicle'" WTF... YOU SAID ANY CAR >_<

after 6 more months of this payment crap, I should have enough credit history to truely get wtf ever I want

It being an older car isn't necessarily a problem. I'm sure it varies from bank to bank, but where I go (SECU) they told me that the only age restriction is you can do up to 60 months on a car less than 5 years old, up to 48 on anything older. Other than that, as long as the amount you're trying to finance is within 110% of blue book value, you're good. Assuming you're approved of course.

No bank is gonna give you a $2000 car loan. It'll be a personal loan and it won't matter if it's for an older car.

I dont feel like reading through all this bullshit... do you have a car yet or no?
If no, send me a PM. With your luck with cars you do NOT need to get a loan. PERIOD.
Then you will end up still owing on the last car and need another one... bad idea.

what in the fuck is wrong with you? just buy a damn < $2000 honda off of fucking craigslist and be done with it. seriously, why the hell do you want to get into debt for some stupid shit like this? an older honda will be everything you need and be at the price you can pay right now. you'll thank me 6 months from now when you don't have a job or some shit and wouldnt be able to make a car payment.

2 days until a problem is apparent. 11 days before catastrophic engine failure.

I have a 97 saturn SL2, and it's awesome.

But if you got one for 600 dollars, it's got something seriously fucking wrong with it. My guess is the engine is burning oil like crazy and you're gonna have catastrophic failure in the next 5-10k miles.

yep. plus, secu has some special "basic transportation" (or something) program specifically for financially challenged people that need a loan for an older/cheap vehicle. you have to prove you don't own any other vehicles and only have income/assets within a certain limit. iirc, the interest rate is a little higher than normal, but still WAY better than the screwing you'd take purchasing such a vehicle through some shady used car dealer.

the only bad thing about secu is that they don't report to the 2 major credit reporting agencies, so if you are hoping that the perfect payment history will help you... it doesn't
