It's true. DC and PG County have the highest incidences of STD's.

They exclude gays and everyone else that's stereotypically at risk for carrying HIV.

Why can't we make a national HIV quarantine though? Pissed my mother off that I suggested such.

Well, it would be drastic measures and a closed borders policy, but a city built for the infected. National HIV testing, retest the positive results. Test people coming from other countries upon entry. It would be economically devastating, morale would plummet, but hopefully, HIV would be eradicated within a generation.

i can give blood and usually do so for a free ticket to King's Dominion once a year.

it also takes me longer to fill out the paperwork than to donate.

I get a shot every 3 months, but getting something injected into your arm, and getting a huge needle into a vein sucking your life out is a little different.....

I really want to give blood, I just think I would be a big baby

Rules me out. And I have test results to show both myself & my husband (we've been together over 6 & a half years now) are both have blood that is 100% clean. No tattoos, no piercings, no drug use (heck, I don't even drink) here... and my only out of country trip ever was a high school field trip to Canada nearly a decade ago.

yes because they call me all the time. I have a card so I don't have to fill that shit out every time anymore but still giving blood sucks. It makes my stomach turn over or some shit and then I am weak/light headed. Don't really feel normal for 2 days.

I think my blood type is O- so i'm not the universal but they always say my blood is good for some reason. probably to make me feel better about my inferior blood.

so either you DO have the universal one, or you dont actually know what your blood type is.

even if you're not the universal blood type, they always need all types. having the most common or least common blood type does not make them need your blood any more or less (at least theoretically).

actually it was always my understanding that O- is the universal donor and that O+ people like myself are needed more than any other donor because we have the most common blood type and can only receive blood from other O donors.

What was your hemoglobin reading?

I donate as often as possible, with the last time being 3 weeks ago. I just have to make sure to get them to take it from my left arm. They sometimes ask if you're left or right handed so they can take it out of the opposite arm. I'm left handed but always request that they take it out of my left arm because for some reason they always miss in my right arm.

Last time my iron was low when they pricked my finger to start with, so the lady had me rub my hands together vigorously for about 3 minutes. When they checked it again, my iron had jumped from 11.9 to 13.3...just a tip for those of you who have borderline iron levels.

BTW some of you have really stupid excuses for not giving blood.

^^ They didn't indicate the actual hemoglobin level, just that it was acceptable.

My other readings were funky though. Blood pressure of 90/55 (usually 110/60) and body temp of 96.5 degrees (usually 97 degrees for me). I guess those are only of concern if they're too high? Why do they bother checking those? And at what point is your blood rejected?
