Just when I get into the show, Harold from Harold & Kumar comes onto the screen and I can no longer think of it seriously. I think in the first episode someone told him he had to get somewhere fast and all I could think of was "Why don't you just ride a cheetah over there, Harold?"

This show rapes my opinion of Sonya Walger.

She's great in lost because she's not there very much and is always emotionally fragile.

watched the first 3 episodes on hulu yesterday. It has ups and downs. I'm not blown away by it, but it has enough promise to give it a few more episodes. The beginning of series is tough, they're trying to establish characters and tone. Hopefully they'll work out the quirks and raise the bar a little.

Very slow today. They didn't build AT ALL on the Somalia thing, which I was interested in.

Nice little twist at the end. Definitely wasn't expecting it given how much of an innocently good guy dude is.

Needs to pick up a lot though and stop being a fucking hospital drama.

The short:
I'm done watching unless I see good reviews. I can always go back and watch it if it turns out to be good. Can't get back wasted time for watching a poorly written/produced show.

The long:

it's like they don't know what they want to do with the show. That, or I just don't get it. For ex., I got a kick out of the bathroom scene an episode or two back, but it seemed out of place in the show. It was quirky and light. I haven't really gotten that vibe from the show in general. Well, aside from the opening of tonight's episode.

Major catastrophe and a bus going into a body of water and people dying while bjork's rendition of [i]Oh So Quiet]/i] is playing... I don't get it. Didn't like the trumpet playing while they were running the guy down either. They need someone else to work on the score imo. Some of the music, all through the season, has just seemed out of place. Maybe they don't want to be too cliche with the musical cues, but it just seems way off to me.

And yeah, is this a cop/investigation show, a hospital show or is it going to be about everyone's flashforward and how it impacts them personally? This is starting to remind me of The 4400 in some ways (a similar starting point in someways too), which really seemed to lose it's direction after a while. Too much going on, and they seem to be pushing away from the main plot of solving this thing and focusing on the flashforwards/personal experience of people that don't contribute to the investigation. For ex. the patient from this episode. It only contributed in perhaps further convincing his wife that the flashforwards will come true and she can't save their marriage. They could have done that without so much wasted time.

Seems like this would be a good mini-series, a format where they could quickly progress and not worry about dragging it out with BS. Unfortunately, they're not going to do that. Although, the flash forward date is toward the end of the season. So maybe that was the idea in case they didn't get picked up for another season. But I read they quickly went from a contract for like 13 episodes, to 23 and then 25. I'm sure if ratings are good, they'll milk it for as many seasons as they can.

That worked for Lost because they just added more backstory for all the recurring characters while slowing down the development of the main plot. It also worked b/c the backstories were not only interesting (usually), but it built up the MAIN characters and not characters you know you'll never see again (like the guy on this episode). The backstories also tied into the island plot now and then. And they made sure to push the island plot at least just a little to remind you what the show was really about and what was really intriguing about the show. It doesn't look good if FlashForward already has unnecessary filler.

And what do they do when the show hits April 29th, 2010? What is the show about at that point? Do they have another FlashForward? That would get old quick. Kinda of like The Wire. Each season, same thing over and over. Any one season is pretty good. But once you've seen one, the rest are pretty much the same.

[SPOILER] - regarding book and speculation about show.

I read the synopsis of the book. It has multiple flashforwards that are spaced really far apart. Considering that, it's possible this show WILL have multiple flashforwards (the flashforward in the show is A LOT shorter than the book, 6mos vs like 26yrs). I would HATE if the season ended with the next flashfoward, which would create a purpose for season two. But what's the point of calling the show Flashfoward if it's not relevant beyond season 1?

There are only 2 flashforwards in the book. The first was a flashforward of 21 years into the future, in which most people saw themselves on a "day off" or some type of vacation. They assumed there was a global celebrated holiday that hadn't been invented yet. Shortly after they attempt to create another flashforward, and warn the world to not do anything while attempting. It was a bust. What they thought caused the flashforward actually did not. Several years later it was determined the flash forward was caused by a "pulse" from outer space (read up on the wiki, or read the book if you actually care what it is exactly), and they go about the necessary measures to predict if it will happen again. It turns out the next pulse (causing another flash forward) will be the exact day everyone saw in the future 21 years previous. A theory is thrown around that the reason it occurred like this was that it is impossible for two strains of conscious to occupy the same space. Therefore everyone jumped to when another flashforward was occuring. It turns out it was not a global holiday that everyone was celebrating, they had the day off due to a planned Flashforward. During the 2nd flashforward, only a few people in the world saw a vision, and it was billions of years in the future.

I'm sure this will turn out similar to the book, in which the main character which saw nothing (was murdered) will prevent his murder and survive.

I also think they will absolutely have another flashforward as a cliffhanger, because if they weren't planning on another season it could have easily turned into one of those 3 night movie "events".

The only reason I am watching the show is I am intrigued where they are going with the people that didn't blackout. That part was not in the book.

i also have mixed feelings about last nights episode.

i thought it was really lame that the father of the austic child was all oh snap my evil world henchmen is calling me. to me that was just poor writing. it doesn't even make sense. all it did was confirm that he is the guy who was at the baseball game and that is something that could have been confirmed in numerous other ways. however, this means that the comment he made about his flash forward is bull shit.

^ i'm not sure I agree. I think Dominic Monaghan may have been the guy at the baseball game. The guy was about 5' 8" and 150lbs. The autistic kid's dad is seems a good bit bigger than that. Monaghan on the other hand is probably right about that.

Looked it up, the guy who plays the dad is 6'2" (half a foot taller than the guy at the stadium). Monaghan is 5'7". If either of them was the guy at the stadium, my money is on Monaghan.

And him talking to/being involved somehow doesn't mean he didn't have a flashforward. It just means he had something to do with it. And his description of the FF was just like the girl's. I can't imagine that's luck.

^^ [SPOILER]

I read the entire wiki on the book (LHC, the pulse from the star, immortality, etc.). But obviously, they made the FF in the show much shorter. 6months vs 21yrs. By simply shortening the time period, they could have 10 instead of 2 like the book does. Like I said, tough to call the show FlashForward if there's no FF after the first season. There will most likely be another FF. Probably the season finale, like you suggested.

And I think they're diverging pretty far from the book as far as the cause goes anyhow. To be honest, I think the book's cause is a bit too sci-fi for the masses who watch ABC. I know that seems a little silly considering other alternatives (government intervention, some conspiracy thing, etc.). But unfortunately, I think most people would enjoy that much more than the book's story. I don't expect the show to even mention that part of the story. But, maybe I'll be wrong.

also even a liberal like me finds it offensive when these networks try to forcefeed us all this homosexual bullshit. Its way overboard and unneccessary. Showing someone be openly gay or maybe even two girls dating is ok but don't spend 10 minutes on it and show their drama, kiss scenes and one liners about how good they are to each other in bed. keep in mind this is like 15% of all the main characters being gay. Only 1 percent of the country is gay. No need to show it in every show. Its not realistic.

I liked the episode. It's good I did, too, because after the last two if this one wasn't better I was going to not watch it anymore. I'll hang on for one more episode now.

I could not care less about the lez that got shot though. I actually am hoping she dies so that they can change the FF's. Though, nothing she did really to change it in this case so I doubt she does.

I imagine they will make it so that they can change them but changing one doesn't change all of them. Also, Benford's wife is kind of a bitch. She is holding his drinking in the flash forward more seriously than her living/fucking another man. It's a self fulfilling prophecy with her. I can almost see her going to the other man because he "might" drink in the future and her going to the man driving him to drink. I mean, if he was just losing it and randomly taking his first drink in 7 years, I think that the senate hearing would have done it to him.

Glad they went away from the bearded douche's FF. Could not care less about him.

** also, Benford had a different conversation on the phone at the beginning and the end. I DVR'd back to the beginning because I thought it was, and sure enough it was. Why would they do that? I mean why not just use the same clip that they shot? Had to be intentional... it's just a simple one line different. He said it was a disaster at the beginning and then said that they got the funding at the end.

One of my thoughts last night was maybe she WAS supposed to have a baby with the other girl. That they were the ones in married the lesbo's FF. But if that's the case, then she wouldn't have been surprised it was a girl baby, unless it wasn't the two lesbian eggs, but really just artificial insemination. And when she completely destroyed her flashforward she died. But I'm definitely completely overthinking it.

I don't know. Due to last night and them finding all of these "towers", I still don't know where they are going. Especially since that female cop was searching for "sun bursts" at one point.

I noticed that too. Perhaps that, in relation to the possible death of that girl cop could mean that the future isn't written in stone?

It had to be on purpose, otherwise why would they shoot the scene twice like you said?

So, about the whole 5 tower thing (pentagram), they got the pictures of what it looked like with them being built six month prior. How come they didn't get/send for pictures of what it looked like AFTER the crow death? Are the towers still there? If not how long did it take to take them down? How come every square inch of satellite photos hasn't been check for similar structures, especially 2009?

Oh and maybe its 3 stars because star 1 = somalia blackout, 2 = 2009 blackout, and 3 = ??!!

Also, I know its in the middle of B.F.E., but wouldn't you think some CIA analyst would notice anything larger than a tin hut being built in Somalia in 1991 of all years?

^^ the CIA wouldn't release the stuff about Somalia. They tried to get info. from them a few episodes ago. I'm pretty sure they got the info. they had on the last episode by having a con hack into CIA computers. They didn't show it, but it came up once earlier in the episode and then the main guy went to the black tech. guy and had him go through with it. -- this was last weeks episode i think. He decided to go through with it after someone (i think the AA sponsor guy) gave him a talk about how he would do anything to protect his family, regardless of laws.

This show bites - its really weak and has the BIGGEST PLOT HOLE KNOWN TO MAN.

Immediately the figure out the exact time that this event happens to everybody......yet nobody makes any effort whatsoever to send any sort of message back to themselves?

Unless they somehow fill that one quick I'm out - its like the whole thing was halfass thought out.
