a lifetime of acting like the advocate of the poor does not redeem ted for what he did.

No matter how many fuckers WANT to believe he was good.

An interesting British opinion on Ted and the Kennedys.

mass. senate and house have passed a law allowing an interim senator to fill kennedy's seat until a special election. governor just has to sign the bill now.

okay, you're right, he wouldn't be the youngest:

Dukakis is one of the names being floated as a temporary replacement for the seat

I was saying he might be the youngest Freshman Senator, but I was wrong, he wouldn't be.

its just that the link has "oldest" in it, so it seems like you should be saying "oldest" freshman senator

Massachusetts should just pass a law that says when a Democrat is the governor, the governor gets to appoint the next democrat to the senate and when a Republican is a governor, the people get to elect the next democrat to the senate. Let's just be honest about what they fucking want

yeah it certainly looks pretty bad and i'm sure some republicans will run on the issue. but it's not really "the next senator" it's an interim senator. whoever is appointed can't run in the special election in january.

who says they can't run? There's nothing legally that would keep the interim from running, unless he signs a contract to that effect.

oh sorry. i thought that was part of the law. it apparently isn't for fear that it wouldn't be constitutional. but patrick has said throughout that the person appointed wouldn't run in the special election. perhaps it would just be a promise made as a condition on the appointment.
