Doesnt look like its in the cards for us this time around... at least in Raleigh, we may see some snow but not a whole lot of it. If you wanna see some good snow get in your car now and start driving northwest and you will be happy.

What is it about Wake County that makes it so conducive to being on the border nearly every storm (it seems) where one county over there is snow and seemingly always 33-35 and rain here. I swear this happens twice a month in the winter...

UPDATE from our resident weather homey

Quote :
"There are no major changes to the forecast from what we sent out yesterday afternoon. The government now has Wake County under a winter weather advisory from today at Noon until 7pm Saturday. Snow should begin late this morning or early this afternoon where about an inch could be picked up before changing over to rain or freezing rain this evening and tonight. Rain is then still expected to changeover to snow tomorrow morning bringing the chance for more measurable snow across the area. Areas just to the west of here in Durham and Chapel Hill are under a winter storm warning as snow is expected to be heaviest. DOT has already prepared the roads but with snow and a mix expected this afternoon plan for a messy ride home this afternoon."

The Iranian dude that owns the convenient store on the corner just predicted 8 inches of snow. I trust him, because he gives me free dip on occasion.

Stupid WSI. They can't even get some towns/cities names right.

There's no damned Smithville in Johnston County. It's Smithfield.

^^^

Precip will start again around 3:30 or so... don't know if it'll be rain or snow. NWS seems to still be leaning more towards the snow/winter mix side and TWC is all about A LOT of rain... Probably somewhere in b/t.

so are the models saying that this warm trough of air is going to track more easterly or more westerly? evidently this will heavily impact the amount of snow vs. rain that we get.

Well, I drove down from NOVA. Left at 10am, about 2 and a half hours into my drive it started snowing, was easy driving though. Heaviest was when I crossed into NC. It snowed a good amount until I got further S then it turned into the ice/sleet. I am glad it was snow most of the way...kinda sad that I will not see the huge snow. They are saying 10-20 inches for NOVA, last time I experienced a snow that big was in college at NCSU.

Damnit, this snow is bigger than the Raleigh Blizzard, now the place that I live at in NOVA is under a blizzard warning, all the traffic cams no longer work....but I would of been stuck for days and days before I could drive home. I will probably see the leftovers when I drive back after New Years. I go through where the heaviest accumluations have occurred. This might be the second all time snowfall for that area.

Sorry that you cats in Raleigh got hosed.I had a hell of a time yesterday evening around 5:30 driving from Burlington to Greensboro and back. I only lost control of the truck once near downtown GSO where the streets were completely covered (so was the highway but there were at least ruts and tracks to follow). It changed over to sleet far sooner than they were calling for and when I took her back home around midnight is was just rain and most of the yahoos were off of the road. We saw about a dozen wrecks and about 4 as they happened. It was rather intense but it was well worth it for an evening of homemade lasagna and movie watching.
