Mets management is seeing what Heyward is doing for the Braves and hope their future star can do the same in the bigs. Should have just started the season with him if you're going to bring him up now. Oh well I guess that's what 4-8 does to you. 4/19/2010 4:55:12 PM |
NyM410 J-E-T-S 50085 Posts user info edit post |
Not really. Today is the first day you can add new guys to the 40-man roster and call them up without losing a full service year. He will be under their control until 2016 now, which isn't a HUGE deal for a major market club like the Mets but with Reyes and Wright coming due for contracts soon and a really strong free agent class of pitchers next year they need to think long-term with financial flexibility.
If he is good enough to be a Super Two guy, then that is a good thing but he still wouldn't be a FA until after 2016.

^ Okay I am a dumbass and I don't understand the Super Two rules. Seriously. I thought the Super Two crap was based on games played. By only missing 12 games, I figured this would put Davis (assuming he plays/stays on the roster the remaining 150 games) over the limit and would now become a FA sooner. I guess I need to go back to the Braves thread and read more about it.
Okay this cleared it up for me:
Quote : | ""Longoria famously waited two weeks for a call-up at the start of the 2008 season, with Joe Maddon slotting Willy Aybar into the third baseman slot until Longoria got the call on April 12. The reason was clear: Longoria would serve only 170 service days with the Rays that season. By Major League rule, a player is a free agent after six full seasons, which are constituted by 172 service days. By waiting two weeks, the Rays bought themselves another year of controlling Longoria.
On the opposite side of the coin is the Detroit Tigers, who were so enthused by Rick Porcello's Spring Training a year ago that they started the season with the top prospect in their rotation. Porcello would post a 6.42 FIP in April, but was consistent enough to remain with the Tigers all season. As a result, Porcello will be a free agent after the 2014 season. The Texas Rangers, who waited three weeks to call up Derek Holland (for a Longoria-like 170 service days), will have control of Holland through 2015.

Well, I don't watch every game and certainly hardly ever in entirety. But when I'm around I'll throw it on my laptop and watch.
Like Saturday, I watched from like 4-6, went to dinner and then the bars and happened to catch the last two innings at a bar downtown so drank some beer and watched it.
I don't let the Mets preclude me from going out or to the gym or anything... 4/20/2010 2:52:34 PM |

No game today
But the first series against the Phillies this weekend! Love that this is a big rivalry now. God I hate that entire organization.
Anyway, I'm surprised at how many people are saying that the Mets are playing over their heads and they can't contend. People forget this team won more games from 2005-2008 than any team in the NL. The core of those teams are all still here and not really aging at all. Plus we added Bay and subtracted what most called a divisive clubhouse guy in Delgado.
I see no reason why this team can't at the very least contend for the wild card. And for all the chest thumping out of Philadelphia about a 100 win season and 2006-like romp through the NL they have more pitching questions than any contender in the NL aside from Halladay.
I think Philly wins Friday, toss-up on Saturday and we win on Sunday. It just kind of depends Saturday on if Pelfrey can keep his secondary pitches down in the zone. Historically we've done alright in the small sample we have against Halladay too. I believe Wright has like four or five hits in nine ABs. 4/29/2010 11:31:06 AM |
