Boxing is dead because most of the guys that would be amazing at boxing, play in the NFL. If they can't get a Mayweather level american winner in the heavyweight division the sport will be dead in a few years. Mayweather is the only big draw in boxing today.

Takes time to get there, but maybe hearing about these 80 and 180mil payouts will shift some strong athletes towards boxing instead.

MAYBE

This is the same reasoning people use for why we cant come up with a stronger soccer team. The guys who are the best athletes we can produce either play football or basketball. I am sure there is some truth to this, but I think its more because both sports are fairly boring in the eyes of a lot of americans.

Although I'm guessing it would never happen boxing is really hurt by the lack of championship belt unification, and one main organizing body. Why are there like 5 heavyweight belts? What is WBA v WBC? Is one better? I just went on ring magazine and as of April 25 almost every weight class I clicked on to see fighter rankings listed multiple champion belt holders. There are two heavyweight champions? It's hard to be a fan and follow a sport where there is a level of complication in what should be simple. This guy is the champion, go beat him.

there are other options than UFC and who knows if MMA will get to the same point eventually if new options emerge, but at least for now as an MMA fan I can go to UFC.com and know a single champion in each division. It helps you become a fan of the fighters and follow the sport in a logical way as people move up to challenge and down when they lose. I thought I heard them say this fight unified like 7 belts/titles that Mayweather now has? Maybe someone can explain why I'm wrong on this and it makes sense but if there was a single World Boxing Association in charge the sport would be much more successful, especially pulling back in casual fans.

Samuel Peter is the last boxer I've really been excited to watch.

It wasn't for the fans, it was to line their pockets though. If it was for the fans it would've happened years ago.

Boy, you must really hate boxing.

If you want excitement watch GGG. Nobody wants to fight that guy. He's absolutely a destroyed at middleweight. When was the last time you saw a guy dropping legit fighters with shots to the body?

Dude has murderous punching power, the highest KO percentage in middleweight history, and isn't afraid to mix it up because he also has a really good chin. There's nobody else like him out there right now. I really want to see him fight either Ward or Cotto.

Peter was the closest thing to Tyson since Tyson, of course he was going to be exciting. Boxing lives and dies by the heavyweight division, which has been owned the last couple decades by British and Russian tall jabbers.

Yup, that might have been the best card they've ever had. I bought it last night and just rewatched it again this morning.

Totally agreed with that. The UFC lineup was amazing! Some awesome FIGHTS with exciting come-from-behind wins/knockouts. Definitely better action than the camping and scoring boxing match of this thread's namesake.
