We must continually renew this promise. My Administration has a Civil Rights Division that is once again prosecuting civil rights violations and employment discrimination. We finally strengthened our laws to protect against crimes driven by hate. This year, I will work with Congress and our military to finally repeal the law that denies gay Americans the right to serve the country they love because of who they are" |

I thought his responses to the whole Brown election thing were pretty well done. There were some pauses and responses to hubub in the crowd that were awkward, though, and the talk about trust and ideals and shit went on longer than it should have. See, this is more populist garbage that is terrible for the economy. The government has always worked to prop up home prices, but that's not what we need. A house is not an investment, it's an expense. It's something that can be sold at a later time, perhaps for more than it was originally worth, but that doesn't mean it should be viewed as an investment. The housing bubble was created by people that thought homes were an investment.
Home prices need to fall. People bought overvalued homes. If you buy during a bubble, and the bubble bursts, you can't expect prices to go back up. They weren't supposed to be that high in the first place.

They should be decided by the American people, and that’s why I’m urging Democrats and Republicans to pass a bill that helps to right this wrong."" |

You have to wonder if Obama, or any of the Democrats for that matter, actually read the majority opinion, or if they just went straight for the dissent. They know that they can cry "special interest" and most people will be duped.

^i wouldnt call them zombie banks, many of them are making profits and have a bright future, i wish they died though, but the fact is the bailouts have allowed to the economy to stabilize is there still a risk of a double dip? yes, but its not as a likely as some economic recovery on top of all the govt spending on jobs that will happen this year we're sure to see things get better and obama will be there to make sure everyone knows he did it 1/29/2010 8:51:10 AM |

Ahahahahaha
..........................
Wait, you're serious. These banks are insolvent by every traditional measure. The Fed created money to "bail them out." So, the banks have this newly created money in their electronic reserves, which makes it seem like they aren't insolvent. They won't lend it out though, because if they did, they'd be back to where they started. They can't lend, because they don't actually have the money. Lending is the only way the banks make money, so they're going to stay "zombie banks," and there's really no way out.
Now Obama and the Fed want to charge banks a fine for extra reserves. In essence, this is a "negative interest rate." I've long thought, if 0% interest rates are so good, why not take it to the next level and go negative? That would be even better - it would force banks to lend. Of course, if this policy were to actually be implemented, it'd be a disaster. The monetary base, that has been doubled, would make it into circulation, and we would see massive inflation.1/29/2010 9:17:31 AM |

While the Court reversed a 1990 decision allowing such a ban, it left standing current restrictions on foreign nationals and “entities.” Also untouched was a 100-year-old ban on domestic corporate contributions to political campaigns to which the president was presumably referring erroneously." |

So too should the president...The president fully expected that his hundreds of supporters in the legislative branch would stand and cheer, while the justices remained seated and silent, unable to respond even afterward.
