The Steam Pre-order package is awesome. Been using that shotgun almost non-stop for hours and it's still doing max damage.

"Fallout: New Vegas is the game that many wanted Fallout 3 to be. It's harder, more ruthless, better written and more morally ambiguous. It's a game we’ve been wanting to play for more than a decade, a real modern re-imagining of the Fallout series, complete with that deliciously black humour. But it's also more of the same, aesthetically and technically identical to Fallout 3, wonky facial animation and all. The ever-so-slightly ageing technology only marginally detracts from what is otherwise an expansive, fulfilling and ambitious game, unmatched in scope and maturity. If Obsidian were to make another Fallout game, we certainly wouldn't say no."

That's good. Now the only concern is whether this is too similar to FO3, like FO3 + a few people hacking away for a week or two with a level editor.

Anyone trying hardcore mode? I'm at the point where I can turn it on, but I haven't decided yet...

I guess I'll leave it off for my first play through. Once I get a hang of everything I'll do it.

I am doing Hardcore. Its not bad at all. Its actually gives you something else to pay attention to that's not annoyance, and it doesn't feel out of place like they tacked it on.

I dunno about empty bullet shells, I need to check on that myself.

Also I accidentally clicked No for hardcore mode in the beginning but then immediately turned it on, this might mess up my achievement! I'll end up playing this game several times, so ultimately it doesn't matter.

^^I'd still rather have the PC version. I figure both versions will eventually be patched, but the PC should have a modding community to fix or rebalance anything the devs didn't feel like addressing in the patches.

lol, you sure that's a bug empty? what if they were designed to be like to give the game a more creepy factor?

Although, I would be pissed if a bug like that happened in the opening screen. I mean god damn, you haven't actually shot anything yet.

i'm playing hardcore. i'm glad i did, makes it a little more challenging.

though, i find i'm carrying around a shit ton of stuff and i'm adverse to selling. anyone gotten a safe house or anything where you can drop stuff off? i'm afraid if i leave it in some random dude's place, it will disappear.

^I was hoping that you would get a place if you helped Ringo or the Powder whatever guys. Like in Fallout 3 you get a place if you defuse the bomb or set it off in Megaton.

I picked up a crap ton of Pre-War books hoping that they would have a place to trade them in for some caps, but now I'm regretting it.

^^ Yeah, I stopped playing around there. I planned on doing the exact same thing. I think I need 2 more levels so I can get everyone.

It took me forever to find Ringo because I wasn't really paying attention when the shop owner told me where he was. I ended going all the way to Primm, and got destroyed by a big radscorpion along the way. I was doing less damage than his DT

Is Primm the casino town with the metal gate around it? First time I got there I started getting shot by Powder Gangers, and my little rifle wasn't doing shit...so I figure, hey I have this mercenary grenade rifle (Best Buy DLC), that should work...apparently you can't shoot those through the gate though, so I ended up crippling my right arm and right leg on the first shot

Luckily I could then Fast Travel back to Primm and they'd actually put me inside the city

Yeah you're not supposed to go that way. Following the main quest will take you around the map on this big loop through like 5 towns, then to Vegas.

I've done all that, am level 11, have an awesome companion, and still can't take on a single deathclaw without dying, lol.

BTW Veronica is awesome. You can pick her up at junction 188, she's got a power fist and can rape radscorpions with 2 hits that would take me forever to kill with my guns.

Yeah I know thats not the recommended way to go to get to NV, but I wanted to see how hard the deathclaws were

The funny thing is, I tried again after I got quickly murdered the first time...this time, I got up on some rocks where the deathclaw couldn't get me, and I started shooting some grenades at him and began to take down his power...but instead of running at me, and hence running into the rocks, and letting me keep hitting him, he just hauls ass up to the highway and starts attacking the guys outside the quarry...so I figure ok, he's kind of preoccupied, I can get some more shots in on him...so I blast some grenades, and go on to make the entire quarry hate me since my grenades killed the workers, and barely hurt the deathclaw

and again, this is just a deathclaw cub or whatever they're called, not even a full sized one

^^^my first playthrough I'm doing Wasteland Wanderer and Good Natured...next playthrough I will be evil...kinda like how in FO3 my first playthrough I defused the nuke, then 2nd playthrough i blew the bitch up from Tenpenny's Tower

The only "glitch" I've actually experienced is when I was clearing the casino in Primm and I found Beagle and set him free, you have the option to give him a weapon...he already had a 9mm pistol so I gave him a few extra rounds of ammunition, and I saw Beagle's Journal in his inventory, so I took it

Then later, even though I already had his journal, it said I needed to search him for it as my next quest objective...luckily I figured out you could just listen to the journal and it would give you credit for searching for him

also LOL @ Cheyenne Jackson

Deathclaws were easy in FO3 once you got a dart gun. I don't know if those exist in this game so I'll probably avoid them forever, especially if they still ignore armor.

I don't really remembering having many problems with Deathclaws after like mid game in FO3. They sucked because they moved really fast, but nothing a few rounds to the face with the combat shotgun couldn't take care of.

If you've got high luck you can make ridiculous bank at the blackjack tables. I walked into New Vegas the first time having to sell some ammo to scrape together the $2000 it requires to enter (you don't have to pay, it's just a "credit check" where the robot won't let you in unless you've got $2000) and left shortly afterward with $10k. And this was with 7 luck, if you've got 9 or 10 you probably can't lose.

I didn't use save/load cheats either, except the first time when I lost $600 bucks right at the beginning, you can't gamble for 60 seconds after you load the game.

I've been back a few times since, and the casinos comp you food, drinks, and rooms if you win a lot. Gomorrah actually comped me advanced combat armor after I'd won about $7000, although they did cut me off after $10k and told me I could never gamble there again (I assume they all cut you off after you win a certain amount, gomorrah has the lowest limits, ultra lux the highest).

i have already noticed a few subtle references to the first couple of games.

there's a guy in.. westside i think? called klamath bob and he talks about how there was some "commotion when a tribal wandered through a few years ago" there's also one of the master's original super mutants wandering around town. another guy was from new reno and talks about the crime families from the second game.

i'm assuming there will be a lot of references back since you're so close to where the other games took place.

wish i was at home instead of work
