GG Tony Dungy!
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs/2009/news/story?id=4889508
Quote : | "Dungy says Super Bowl won't be close
Tony Dungy stands a year removed from retiring after seven seasons as coach of Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts.
In 12 months -- during which he's served as an NFL analyst for NBC and a mentor for Eagles quarterback Michael Vick, among other roles -- his allegiance hasn't budged.
Dungy, speaking to The New York Times in Miami, said the Saints won't be able to do enough to force the Colts into needing a final, last-minute drive to win the Super Bowl.
"I think they're going to be so far ahead that people are going to say, 'Oh, ho-hum, he played a good game, they won by two scores, the Colts won their second championship,' " Dungy said of Manning on Thursday. "He's going to have those rings Sunday night. I don't think it's going to be close."
Dungy, who led Indianapolis to a Super Bowl XLI victory in 2007, said the Saints' difficulty in closing out the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC title game was evidence the Colts will have a convincing upper hand come Sunday.
"Minnesota is playing in New Orleans, they turn the ball over five times, have two or three stupid penalties and still lose in overtime," Dungy told The Times. "I don't see how it's going to be close. The Colts aren't going to turn it over seven times."
Dungy also weighed in on whether Manning was a better clutch quarterback than the Patriots' Tom Brady.
"Your coach wouldn't punt the ball to Peyton," Dungy said in referring to Patriots coach Bill Belichick's decision to go for it on fourth-and-2 deep in his own territory rather than give the ball back to Manning late in the Colts' 35-34 victory in Week 10.
"I would punt the ball to Tom Brady with one minute left," Dungy said. "Your coach is the best coach in the world and wouldn't punt it to [Manning]. What does that say?"" |

i dont see any way you can say the colts had possession of the ball there. if anything you could maybe say that saint had it because he had his arm on the ball for a bit while it was under him 2/7/2010 10:53:43 PM |

i'm just saying what it looked like to me. i thought the ball was at the feet of the saints player and the colts guy dove in to grab it.
^^ i don't remember that. i remember them starting a replay and then cutting it off before anything conclusive was shown.

8 touchdowns and no interceptions for Brees in the playoffs
I think at one point during the Super Bowl he was 28-31 passing
How does a QB play any better than that?

This talk of " a huge upset" is insane too. These people just didn't watch the season or something The Colts are fucking average. Play solid usually mistake free and win games all year like 18-14, 21-17 etc. Saints played basically horrible in first half and still won this by 2 TDs. Should have been more. 2/8/2010 9:25:21 AM |

Good game last night. GG to the Saints, Brees, etc. Garrett Hartley deserves some serious credit for the victory. Three long FGs, one successful on-sides kick, did everything asked of him well on the biggest stage. 2/8/2010 9:30:25 AM |

I'm surprised at how many people saying that Manning "hurt his legacy" after last night. Sure, he does have a lukewarm at best playoff record compared to a Montana or Brady but I hardly would place that game all on him despite the one glaring mistake. There was some horrible playcalling at the end of the first half and the Saints completely outcoached the Colts.
** I also thought it was just retarded to think the Colts were going to roll the Saints. Did anyone watch these two teams play all year? They were both good but not all-world elite. It was a miracle Colts were in a position to be undefeated in Week 16 still IMO.

Where the the horrible playcalling?
I assume you were referring to the Colts going three and out after the goaline stand, allowing the Saints to get the ball back for an FG. I don't think there was anything wrong with the playcalling here, just poor execution on their part not the get the 1/2 yard for the first and run out the clock. You surely can't be advocating that they should have tried to drive down and get points in that situation. 2/8/2010 10:08:18 AM |
NyM410 J-E-T-S 50085 Posts user info edit post |
They needed one first down and they have arguably the best QB in the game who is nearly automatic on the short passes with the weapons he has... a pass on 2nd or 3rd down there and a conversion essentially ends the half. New Orleans was going to stop the clock on a run anyway so an incomplete pass isn't THAT big a deal. NO still didn't have enough time to get to the endzone likely because of that one extra timeout.
[Edited on February 8, 2010 at 10:11 AM. Reason : horrible was an overstatement... questionable in my mind is better I guess] 2/8/2010 10:11:09 AM |

yeah I agree but the legacy thing he is ruining it because he's all stats no "winning big tough games" like Brady has done over and over
