at what point do I drop Gavin Floyd

I know he's a slow starter but he's been fucking terrible so far. I was all excited to see the matchups for this week when he got KC and they lit him up yesterday

So do I drop Chipper? He is rotting on my bench and I have both Reynolds and Zimmerman to play 3B. I could use another starting pitcher on my roster.

what do you guys do when you have one of your own hitters going against your starting pitcher?

do you sit no matter what or is it prudent to play them sometime? i understand that its a situational kind of deal, but it just seems counterproductive i.e. i dont play people who are playing my defense in fantasy football

^ If a player is good, I play them regardless. I mean if Pujols is going against Lincecum, I still play both realizing that one could hurt the other, but most likely each will still have a productive game. If you've got a guy like a Jason Bay going against someone like Halladay, then maybe you sit Bay for that game.

Overall with baseball it is not a big deal. I never even worry about stuff like that with baseball. Football is different because you only have 17 weeks (or 16 in some leagues) so paying attention to matchups is critical.

ya, i have bourn going against carpenter

have a feeling bourn is going to get shut down anyway so maybe ill just bench him, only thing is i dont have a replacement playing today so if i bench him, thats an empty roster spot

I have a lot of good OF and I desperately need more SP... and I was offered this:

I give up: Kinsler, Carlos Gonzalez, Josh Johnson

and get: Friese, Lind, Penny, Romero

and I thought that was way too much to give up for two pitchers who may or may not keep up their current stats. And I know Lind will eventually come around but I don't need another OF so I declined it and now he's all pissed about it. What do you all think?

i'm very bitter toward Lind right now

that little 1-50 slump that he ran into has already killed my month

i had no choice but to drop his bitch ass

^^ Good thing you declined that offer because it was horrible for you. Josh Johnson is arguably a top-10 SP, Kinsler once he gets his power back is a top-5 2B in fantasy (I think he is third behind Utley and Cano personally), and Gonzalez has been raking this year.

Everyone he offered has question marks. I would not have even taken that trade if it was Johnson and Kinsler for the other four.

yeah, seemed like a no-brainer to me but he acted so put-off by it... like he had crafted a perfect trade for both of us and I was just going to decline it no matter what... so I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything

Anyone who gets pissed off about some one rejecting a trade in fantasy is a whiny bitch. Seriously it's fantasy baseball, it isn't like some great deal of effort went into setting up a trade like in real life where players get physicals, scouts get sent, contract figures get studied, etc.

I'm going to start Kennedy and Harangutang. Another question, I have Erick Aybar and Yunel Escobar as my SS and MI, both underwhelming at best. Would you sit either or both for free agents Alcides Escobar (getting hot) and Felipe Lopez (now hitting leadoff in front of Pujols and Holliday)?

and twista, dont Beltre and Lackey play on the same team? you worded your post like Beltre hit the two homers off of Lackey. Maybe I'm missing something, but I thought they were both Red Sox

I am in desperate need of some stolen bases in one of my leagues, so I offered a guy the following trade:

I give:

Josh Hamilton
Rickie Weeks
Aaron Harage

I get:
Carl Crawford
Martin Prado
John Ely

the guy I offered it to rejected the trade but tagged on the following note: "I truly can't take advantage of you this must with this thoughtful offer... Have a terrific season.. no counter necessary.."

WTF does that mean? does he think its unfair in his favor and he doesnt want to take advantage of me? I think its a pretty even trade and Crawford is obviously the biggest piece. I have a surplus of OF and 2B, so I'm not going to be hurting from that perspective. This is just a head-scratcher, what do you guys think of it? Should I re-offer and tag on a note of my own? weird....

^ i see not reason why that is an unfair trade. Out of Hamilton and Crawford, I'd probably take Crawford just because you said you need speed. Hamilton is injury prone too. Prado so far is leading the NL in hits and I'd much rather have him than Weeks who is also injury prone. Both the pitchers are throw away guys. Ely could be worth owning, but Harang is awful and should only be owned in NL-only leagues.

What do you guys make of Max Scherzer's line today:

5.2 IP, 2 H, 4 BB, 0 ER, 14K, W

So he gets pounded early this season, he gets sent down to AAA and gets his arm slot adjusted and just mows down AAA hitters....and now this. I mean I know it's Oakland, but still, I dont see too many pitchers dominating a big league lineup like that. Fluke or sign of things to come?

damn, Kendry Morales is having surgery today on his broken leg, best case scenario is he'll be out 10-12 weeks, but a lot of people are saying hes done for the year. I actually picked him up off of the waiver wire earlier this season after some dummy dropped him, and he has been super steady for me ever since.

in other bad news for my fantasy team, Grady Sizemore is having surgery on his knee today, initial reports say that he will be out for 6-8 weeks, but we will know more once the surgery is complete.

my team is so stacked this year, unfortunately I'm in 3rd place out of 8 teams

C Joe Mauer
1B Mark Reynolds
2B Robinson Cano
SS Rafael Furcal
3B Alex Rodriguez
OF Josh Hamilton
OF Carl Crawford
OF BJ Upton
Util Dan Uggla
Util Bobby Abreu
BN Hunter Pence (just dropped Morales for him)
DL Grady Sizemore

SP Zack Greinke
SP Yovani Gallardo
RP Jonathan Broxton
RP Francisco Rodriguez
RP Francisco Cordero
P Justin Verlander
P Chad Billingsley
P Anibal Sanchez (dude is on fire this year)
BN David Price
BN Tommy Hanson (just dropped Ricky Nolasco and picked Hanson up on WW)
BN Ervin Santana
BN Stephen Strasburg

^^I know right, we have 8 teams in the league so there are always good players to be had on the waiver wire. I guess that person who dropped Hanson saw his terrible performance a week or so ago where he gave up 8 runs in 1.2 innings, decided that someone on WW was better, and pulled the trigger. I'm just surprised Hanson didnt get picked up as soon as he cleared waivers.

oh well, good for me. Sucks that I had to drop nolasco to get him, though

^I'd go with Arroyo and Bonderman

Haha, I dropped him and it was because Manny Ramirez was a FA some how and I know he'll get hot. My pitching has been sick and Hanson has literally been my worst pitcher the last month. I'm talking three or four weeks of having a sub-2 ERA and sub-1.10 WHIP. I took a gamble.

Someone dropped Jayson Werth, too so I just put a waiver claim on him. These smaller leagues are interesting with so many good players seemingly coming available weekly.

^ well fuck. I'm playing you and of course you have A-Rod...

Bit of a dilemma here. I got autodrafted so I'm still trying to recover with my pitching staff. Anyway, one of my first three pitchers that I got with the auto was Dan Haren. He is KILLING me right now with a 5.35 ERA and high WHIP and he is historically a much WORSE second half pitcher. Do I drop him? Liriano is available and I know he fell after his hot start but he is still pitching well and I he'll get wins because his team is better than the D-Backs...

lol, how is Pelfrey only owned in 73% of yahoo leagues?

dunno what to think about Haren, but Arizona's bullpen's collective ERA is like 8.50

they lost last night with a 4-4 tie in the bottom of the 9th and Casey Blake on 3rd...because the pitcher balked

thing is, my league overvalues pitching. i have a pretty decent offensive team, and if david wright can ever get his shit together it'll be even better. there are just a lot more points to be had with a solid pitching staff, and morneau's value will never be higher. most sites i read have encouraged trading him now.

well yeah, if you are dead set on trading him, then now would be the best time. What tree and I were saying is that I wouldnt be surprised if his numbers didnt fall off too much between now and the end of the season.

^ yeah i know he's still gonna put up good numbers, but most likely not nearly as elite as what he's done so far. saying he was AL MVP a while back doesn't mean a whole lot to me as an owner in my league 4 years after the fact. he's approaching his years when he'll start regressing a lot more.

i guess i need to mention i had an extremely solid pitching staff on paper going into the season, and chad billlingsley is currently my best guy. i've been putting up with dan haren's horse shit all year, so glean what you will from that bit of information.

Checked my team's results from last week and I beat the guy who had been in 1st place 9-0. My lineup has been killing it and my pitching was stout last week. I'm now in 1st place. Riding these hot players like Corey Hart (who someone dropped right before he started this HR barrage) has really paid off.

Been offered a couple options for trade

I get: Alex Gonzalez (SS-Tor) and one of the following two: Carlos Gonzalez (OF-Col) or Vernon Wells (OF-Tor)
I give up: Ben Zobrist

What do you think?

I think its a fair trade...whether or not I'd do it is another question

For one thing I'd want Carlos Gonzalez over Wells...Wells might hit a few more homers but Gonzalez is a 5-tool guy

The hesitation on my part would be that Zobrist had a great year last year, is just finally starting to heat up this year...and while Alex is having a great year, he has also played in just 83.25 games per season over the last 4 seasons

To me it would depend on who my other OFs and SS/2B is...you play Zobrist at SS or 2B?

I actually have no other SS on my roster.
