Harrison gets the same deal as Tlusty.
My question is why?
He better be a 7th D-man/healthy scratch. 5/28/2010 12:34:28 PM |

I've always liked Samsonov, but his numbers have gone down and with the talent we have in Albany/Charlotte we can't resign someone like Whitney if we'll still have Brindamour, Cole and Samsonov all on the roster. If we dump Sammy and Brindamour retires I think we resign Whitney and bring up someone like Boychuck or Dalpe to start the season. 6/1/2010 3:37:23 PM |

Ray Whitney may have played his last game for the Carolina Hurricanes.
General manager Jim Rutherford said today that he has met with Whitney and that it appears the winger will not re-sign with Carolina before July 1, when Whitney will be an unrestricted free agent.
"I think it will be difficult with where he will be at, contract-wise," Rutherford said. "I expect him to go into July (and the free-agent market). It appears that's the way it's going to go." Before the March 3 trade deadline, the Canes fielded trade offers for Whitney. But Whitney had a no-trade clause in his contract and opted to stay with the team, finishing third in points with 58 (21 goals, 37 assists).
Whitney has played the last five years for the Canes after signing as a free agent in August 2005. He was an integral part of Carolina's Stanley Cup run in 2006, and in the Canes reaching the Eastern Conference finals in the 2008-2009 season.

If we're really going with this youth movement thing next year, there's no reason to bring him back for a year or two. That being said he'll get on somewhere and probably light us up 2 or 3 times next year.
Really wish we could have shipped him out at the deadline. Learn from mistakes JR, can the NTC's. 6/7/2010 2:21:20 PM |

If we for sure didn't have Brind'amour, Cole, and Samsonov returning I'm sure we'd resign Whitney. At this point though with potentially only one of them gone we don't have room for Whitney with the younger guys we're trying to put in the lineup. 6/7/2010 2:22:56 PM |

The guy scored 58 points last year......Samsonov, Brindamour and Cole scored 64 combined. Those 3 will be averaging 2.93 million next year. There isn't a hometown discount big enough. 6/7/2010 7:51:23 PM |

Legace out -- Peters in.
Canes general manager Jim Rutherford said today that a decision has been made and that the team will go with Justin Peters as the backup to Cam Ward in goal next season.
Rutherford had said either Peters, 23, or veteran Manny Legace would be No. 2 goaltender and that the team would not look to sign or trade for anyone else.
"We've told Manny's agent that we will go with Justin," Rutherford said. "It's the right time for Justin in the process of his development. He improved so much last season and dominated in the American Hockey League (with the Albany River Rats).
"He's a great team guy. He played some very good games here for us and this is the next step for him. He looks like he has a very good future for the Hurricanes."
Legace, 37, was signed out of the AHL in November after Ward suffered a slashed leg in a game in Columbus. He will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
"Manny did a great job for us," Rutherford said. 6/11/2010 4:00:54 PM |

wait on the NHL schedule to come out in the next couple weeks (much earlier than most years, for some reason) and you might be able to make a decent prediction
