So what's the new concensus on this brewery? $25 for Foe Hammer seems way too high. Are these guys still douches or have they evened Out?

I've somewhat gotten to know the brothers and the handful of other guys that are Roth over the last year+ and "douchebag" is not amongst the adjectives I'd use to describe any of them. they are all great guys that work their asses off and care more than most about public perception of their product. there were a couple times at my bar when I called one of them to let them know a particular keg wasn't tasting right, they were out to swap it out immediately, no questions asked. cool guys to hang out with at the brewery, and if you haven't tried their beer yet, do so....there is a reason they're still around. I recommend the dark construct, or foehammer

and are you people complaining that a young brewery charges a small fee for a tour and samples because a larger established brewer can afford not to? if you can't afford to throw a few bucks toward a tour, you probably shouldn't be out drinking anyway

lol, yeah that's it.

the douche remark was made solely on a quick read through of this thread and user complaints and reactions by people seemingly within or close to the company. that and i was posting a quick thread bump while in the car. so you quick to judge and re-judge can relax.

paerabol, that's good to hear. I picked up a bottle of dark construct. as I said, i've heard good things bout foe hammer but the $25 price tag on a 750ml is pricey until i taste more from them. (they are just recently getting distribution down to my area).

I've given this brewery more tries than I would like to admit and their beer just isn't good. From what I've been told by some of the local brewers here in the area, they are nice guys that just don't take the business seriously enough to put out quality beer. All have made some mention of the fact that those guys care more about getting trashed than making good beer. I tend to agree. Bragging that you can make a beer in 10 days isn't really advertising that you are making quality beer. They have good ideas but their beer just isn't good, in my opinion.

"Not that great, IMO. The after taste isn't so good, and if you burp after having a glass, it tastes like some sort of nasty plastic."

This is EXACTLY how I thought the Cinnamon Porter tasted. I really wanted this beer to be good. I tried it 4 separate times hoping that I got a bad batch or that they would perfect the recipe and each time it tasted different and was just not good.

The Red is their only decent beer in my opinion. Everything else is just average to horrible.

Spent a couple hours at the brewery last night catching up with one of the owners. Though their beer is selling relatively well (especially the sex viking apparently), I brought up the misgivings I've heard both here and IRL to hear his opinion. He said that basically, they aren't stupid and know what's going on with their beer and that they are perpetually tweaking the continuum of variables that is the brewing process.

From what I understand they went from home-brewing with new yeast cultures for every batch straight to commercial brewing where they harvest and incubate their own cultures. I can imagine the difficulty in maintaining consistency in the yeast when being relatively new to the process, that shit is ridiculously touchy.

I mean I understand people not liking their beer for various reasons, and you're certainly entitled to say so. But other brewers saying stuff like "they care more about getting trashed than making good beer" is patently false and purely shit-talking. These guys love what they do, they're just still in the trial-by-fire phase.

They should do what Big Boss did...close shop, hire someone that knows what they're doing, re-open under a new name and slay the local market

OK, so i received some interesting news regarding Roth this past weekend at the ORF release.

here is what i was told. The Roth brothers are out of the business. They were close to closing, but the head brewer was able to put together some investors and buy the company out from the brothers. All bottling has ceased for the time being. My guess is until the sale is finalized. There was no mention of any rebranding or name changes, though I have to imagine something will change.

So any Roth beer you see on the shelf will be at least a couple months old. I imagine most will be bargained priced soon if they aren't already.

Also this week's specials.....
- FoeHammer 22oz Bottles... $10.00 (A limited supply is left and this will be the Last Batch until Next Winter)
- Roth Forgotten Hollow 20oz Nonic Glasses... $2.00 (Get'em while you can it'll be the last time we print this style of glasses)"

Doesn't sound like they're going anywhere.

Roth Brewing Co is looking for someone who loves beer more than their Ipad. If your interested, let me know what model you have and we can work something out.

We are located in north Raleigh near the Angus Barn. We have a taproom onsite that is open 5 nights a week and sells beer to enjoy on site or at home.

I can't imagine another brewery doing something like this. It just seems so unprofessional.
