GOD DAMN IT DID

Cici's and Papa Johns are the only bad pizza in Raleigh.

Personal favorites would be Lilly's. Brixx is good for a chain place, so's Mellow Mushroom. Ruckus is pretty good, as is Sylvia's (plus Sylvio himself is an awesome guy). Rudino's has some good pies as well.

If we expand to the greater triangle I'm partial to Pepper's and Amante's.

Never been to Moonlight, Capital Creations, Wildflour, Frank's or Pop's backdoor but they're on the "should really try sometime" list.

I got 6 wings and a calzone there and couldnt finish beause it was too much food. Big, tasty breaded wings. Calzone was good too.

i went a while ago in the middle of the afternoon and ordered 2 slices

they sprinkled my toppings on two stale slices of nasty cheese pizza and dropped it in front of me

I, too, have heard Sauced is awful.

I know I've posted in like 10 of these threads butxas a Raleigh native the best pizza places are

(no particular order)

amedeos, though not sure bc of new ownership
ruckus (mv)
andy's
sinellis
lillys (though I've never had it but it's consistenly number one on citysearch)
Stella mare (cassadoria)

the others mentioned above are the worst, especially the chains and sylvias. I get that the guy is nice and that's probably keeping them in business but their pizza is greasy as shit and the dough is too soft. All the hillsborough st places are highly overrated (I <3 ny the most so).

^given that you left Piccolo Italia off the list, and couldn't even spell Cinelli's properly...I'm gonna take your list with a grain of salt.

Pop's backdoor (or the original) is quality as well, if you're in Durham.

can i ask why all of the TKE pizza snobs spell piccola with an o?

is this the cool kids/true italian way of spelling it that i don't know about?

because it has been irritating me for awhile

hahaha

i'm blaming NyM410. i've actually never seen anyone else spell it with an "o" until you just posted. he's the one i frequently see spelling it because he is the one i frequently see arguing about pizza. haha. he probably brain washed you.

I don't care what anyone says

I <3 NY Pizza has the best cheese slices anywhere around there (that I've had)

the rest of their pizza with toppings are mediocre at best

I honestly always thought it was Piccolo. And that is what we always call it. Wow, attention to detail must not be a fine point.

Also, I've been wanting to fit "Lawyered" in to any conversation, real life or TWW all day long for some reason... and the opportunity presented itself.

^^I've always thought that I Heart NY's cheese was basically a second layer of crust with even more grease on it.

But if you like crusty cheese, that's cool too, I guess.

good love in this thread.

seriously, I like or really really like 5-6 pizza shops around town.

there are probably 2-3 I just absolutely think are shit.

those are:

Marco's
I Love NYP
Papa John's (duh)
Lynnwood Grill (I only include them because people raved about how good it is. It is tomato paste, folks. I couldn't finish 2 slices.)

oh shit, forgot about them

add them to my shit list

also forgot to add that Wildflour is overrated. didn't hate it, but damn, disappointed.

I've never had Frank's...but Brian, et al, are seriously like the 5th group of people to sing its praises. I'll have to try it.

the thing that isn't overrated at wildflour is the house salad dressing

YUM!

but i'd still rather eat that over like amante. i don't get the amante love. its fine but isn't amazing.

I think Lynwood's pizza gets love in large part due to the fact there's not much in the way of late night grub on that side of town.

Unless you want McDonald's

I've eaten too many of those LG slices out of necessity, but it's nothing exceptional by any means. And I love that place as a whole.

Assaggio's is pretty good IMO

I'm totally behind on this conversation.

I didn't realize that in the past there were periods were Sylvio might not be in the shop while serving pizza. I've been a regular there this last year (had a lot of writing groups that met between there and Mitch's after class) and it's gotten to be just Sylvio, his one non-English speaking Italian friend (young guy, no idea what his name is), and a fat white guy who I think is a business partner (he's almost never there).

As far as Lily's... there's definitely hipsters that eat there, but work there? I don't know MANY of the staff, but those I do aren't even in the same fucking universe.

I am going to check out Frank's sometime this year.

And I'll hit up Ruckus if I can get my grandpa to stop raging at me for this one time when they "ripped him off" on the pricing of his small pizza.

As far as the other pizza places go, CC is more expensive but its totally worth the extra $$$. Pesky chicken

Ruckus is just meh. It's on the second tier.

it is

HOWEVER

that monday night special occasionally pushes it to the front

when this was bumped on monday we were gonna go to moonlight but remembered the ruckus special and that made it worth it. cause then i had leftovers for lunch!

someone is going to kill me for saying this but ruckus kinda reminds me of lily's except lily's is slightly better and has way better toppings

i prefer moonlight over both. and lily's to ruckus. but ruckus to delivery places and any place on hillsborough street.
