I will be at the State Fair in an official capacity on the first Saturday night; if you find me, PigPen will be set free.

I tried the Gator Bites. They were pretty good. I don't care for a lot of Cajun Seasoned Fried Dough, but the texture of the meat was nice and it was a pleasant taste.

Y'all should all come eat at St. Paul's Christian Church's fair booth. It is in the strip with all of the other church restaurants near Dorton arena. A bunch of the proceeds (percentage is unknown exactly until total revenues are known at the end of the fair) go to support local ministries and charities. Some include Warmth for Wake, the Helen Wright women's shelter, food bank of eastern north carolina and some others. We are open for breakfast, lunch, and supper. We serve normal breakfast foods (eggs, biscuits, ham, etc), and for lunch and supper we have hamburgers and hot dogs (the red ones) as well as chicken tenders, chicken pot pie, and bbq. In addition we have collards, boiled potatoes, green beans, black eyed peas. If you come next friday, saturday, or sunday morning I will cook your eggs for you any way that you want (as long as that is scrambled or fried).

You have to tell me these thing before I go! I try to put wolfwebber run business and other local organizations on my list of places to spend my money.

I even added a tip on foursquare for the NC State Fair to stop by the bluebird cupcake stand in the Scott Building.

I don't get the appeal of buying some of this stuff at the fair when you can buy variants at good places all around Raleigh for a reasonable price and not have to eat it with meth addicts and cigarette butts thrown in it.

Regardless of the food itself, there's no place I'd rather not partake of food than at the State Fair.

Unless you're getting the ham biscuits from the Kiwanis (you know, a real, legit food prepared by upstanding citizens not willing to try bath salts). Those are the shit.

Really anything fixed by a church or club is great. The midway food will give you hepatitis and the money goes to nothing worthy at all.

Literally the most generic and easily found item you could get at the fair. I had a ham biscuit TODAY at Big Ed's that was way better than anything from the kiwanis.

...but I still buy a biscuit from the kiwanis whenever I go.

I went yesterday, maybe I remember it differently, but it seemed like the fair is nothing but food vendors now.

I mean, cheese steaks are good and all, but dial it back a little.

I was disappointed by the amount of food repeats. Not a ton of variety.

I was a terrible person and ate my apple cider cupcake after breakfast his morning. Holy cow it was yummy. All three components were a home run, caramel icing, apple filling, and spice cake. So good.

I always get them too, but I am disappointed that they moved to shitty biscuits from a can a few years ago. Maybe I remember wrong, but I thought they always had homemade biscuits.

And the biscuits are now $2.50, and a water is $1.50. I could swear that only 2 years ago the biscuits were only $1.50 and a water $1.

The new ham biscuit champion is the Farmers Market Restaurant trailer. The only reason to go to restaurant row any more is to hear the PPPPIIIIEEEEEE recording.

Good fucking luck. I went today with my #1 goal being to find one of the BBQ eggrolls and I couldn't find one for the life of me. I even googled to find out the name of the place (Woody's) and downloaded the piece of shit app to my phone but the vendor locator on that doesn't work at all. We walked around what I considered to be 90% of the entire fair and I never saw a Woody's or a place that sold BBQ Egg Rolls, and then when we were leaving I took an extra half an hour to speed walk through the entire place again covering, again, what I consider to be just about the entirety of where they sell food and couldn't find the place. I guess they did a pretty good job of getting the word out about the Egg Rolls cause I've heard a lot of people talking about wanting one, but they sure as shit suck ass at letting people know where to get one cause that was the one thing I wanted from the fair and I couldn't make it happen in the 5 hours I was there.

I saw the signage for the egg roll BBQ thing, and it wasn't a very prominent sign nor a big booth. I can't remember where it was, but I think near the Al's Fries on the way down the bottleneck.

It is creepy because the AWL KANDS O' PIEEEEEEEE guy is dead. As I was walking past, a guy plugged in a mic and actually did a pretty good cover of the PIIIIIIEEEEEE guy's routine.

Also, I did go in there for the first time about 3 years ago after listening to the recording for years, ordered a piece of pecan pie, and they took a Sara Lee out of the freezer and put it in the microwave and told me to wait a minute.

You know, I was seriously looking forward to the things I was going to eat there and we looked and looked and ended up eating mundane stuff. All the good stuff was brought home. I really wanted to try those fried peanut butter and bacon bites with jam dipping sauce, but we never found them. They may not even have made it to our fair. I miss the days when there was something new and outrageous each year. Now it is just deep fry premade stuff or put it on a krispy kreme.

For future reference, Woody's always flies a red blimp about 50-60' above their booth. There's only one, since they're a local joint. Any weird new buffalo/BBQ thing is always theirs. Couple of years ago it was buffalo chicken rangoons.

The woody's stand is near my church restaurant near dorton arena. If you are facing all the church places go to the left end of that row and then turn right. It should be right in that area on your right.

Had a great Cinnamon Bun from that stand that is outside, near the breezeway where the Ventrilaquist and the magician/yo-yo/comedian guy performs.

It was the most Cinnabon like Cinnamon Bun I have ever had ... and since I cant seem to find a Cinnabon in any airports anymore, I will start looking forward to this every year.
