Where do you people buy your junk at? Ever since Brociety got merged into Whiskey Militia, there haven't been nearly as many deals to be found. I miss that site.

Tramdock is great...

for two plankers.

Brociety was its twin 'til they killed it.

R.I.P.

Also how many SAC trackers are there? I've been using sacalerts.com. Same shit, different site.

I changed my mind. Seems clean snipe is better. Thanks for the links.

Name is a misnomer; they have lots of skiing stuff. I bought a $1200 set of skis/bindings for $299 shipped to my door a couple of years ago (previous year model and bought during summer).

I am trying to pickup some new gear, I sold all my stuff when I moved to the east coast. Tramdock/whiskey have helped me get the essentials but I still need skis and bindings, and a board and bindings. I'm a weird hybrid who likes to ski/snowboard depending on the terrain. Thinking now the $200 i got for my shit wasn't worth it new skis are $texas. I have a board I can ride but it's not ideal.

We're heading up to stowe on friday. I'm nervous, because I really hurt my wrist on our last weekend trip and don't want to get seriously injured. At the same time, I know I need to get over it if I am ever going to learn. [/whining]

We are really looking forward to having a bunch of fresh snow though! Probably the only good thing to come out of all these winter storms we've been having.

This season I finally realized that I am getting old. For the first time I fucked myself up where I could not bounce back the next day, still feeling sore few weeks later. So from now on it' helomet+full body protectorion for me.As far as head protection, i ended up getting Bern Hard Hat, should be better than a true helmet for multiple small impacts, and I usually bang my head a few times a day

I already had a ballistic jacket and shorts from my motorcycle gear collection.. should work for snoboarding

then i had to get a new, extra large jacket to fit over it and still have room left to move.. with the oversized jacket i look surprisingly normal, although bigger than i really am. I guess it is a small price to pay over the potential hospital bills.

Of course, i could have just slowed dont or avoid the park section.. but that would take out half the fun

Did you get the audio package with the Bern? I've got a Hardhat but not winter upgrade and wondering if I should get the upgrade with audio as a backup helmet.

no, I like the deeper bass that comes with the earbud design (nothing makes me haul ass like pumping D&B all up in my earhole), and I like to keep one ear open to ambient noise, so i figured a set of earbuds would work better for me. The fact that the hardhat+winter lining combo was on sale for like 45 bucks at REI sealed the deal.

You would think the suit would be an overkill, but I sure wished I had a back protector when I fell I landed on a rail with my spine this past trip. If I were to skip the terrain park, I would probably be OK with just the helmet. Wearing the ballistic suit felt a bit too tight in my regular sized jacket, but now with a jacket shell one size up it is not very constricitive. Extra weight of the suit is much less than it looks, probably comparable with a Carhartt jacket.

TJ Maxx in Cary had a couple of Bern Baker helmets in flat black on clearance a couple of weeks ago. I think they were about $30. I sort of doubt they're still there, but you could check. I've got a mustard yellow one that has been good to me for the last few years.

That suit is crazy. Most hockey players wear less. I'd think that would only really be necessary on sheer drops of 20+ feet.

Headed to Snowshoe this weekend. Other than some snow showers no real precip is gonna fall. But it looks to be extremely cold (below 0 at night) so conditions should be stellar.

I also saw a couple of Bern helmets (non-brimmed, but winter sport oriented) in Marshalls, similarly priced. They were not Hard Hats though.

and in the terrain park. a lot of hard objects with 90 degree angles there.

Anyone ever had experience with Snowboarder's Ankle?

Reading stuff on the web seems to indicate my symptoms match. My last day I did a crappy tape job but it seemed to help. Either way there is a very good chance I won't be able to get to a doctor before I board again, so I'm trying to figure out what I can do to help myself out. Good tape job, change my stance, etc...the sites I've seen all basically say surgery or an aircast or something I don't really have access to on short notice. Thoughts?

I really doubt you'd be thinking of snowboarding any time soon if you had a broken talus, but that's just speculation since I haven't personally experienced it. If that is the case you need treatment (at least 6 weeks on crutches; probably in a cast) asap rather than risking further injury.

I have severely damaged the tendons and ligaments in my ankle which caused a great amount of pain and frequent re-injury for about 7 years. It was from a one-footer ollie on a skateboard in which I landed with my front foot on the tip of the board and it rolled off the front. The bone flexed hard enough to chip a little wedge off the outside edge, but didn't break.

The Air Cast was surprisingly helpful. When I strapped it on I thought it would be worthless, but I found over the years that it reduced day-to-day pain greatly after an injury and it was pretty good at preventing re-injury when I wore it as a preventative measure.

I'm not sure how an Air Cast would work with a snowboard boot though. It would probably be do-able, but with some chaffing and sore spots.

Yeah I'm reading more and it seems like it would be more painful....maybe its just coincidence I'm getting pain right under my front ankle. I just ordered a cheapo ankle brace and will see how that works out with or without tape.

What I'm most worried about right now is I'm going to Killington next weekend, but then to Tahoe on the 19th. Obviously if for some reason this gets a bunch worse in Killington or during the first couple days of Tahoe I am really going to be pissed.

Maybe I'll buy and aircast just to have in case...seems like that could cause some major discomfort inside a boot though.

I remember that it did cause some issues when I wore it under hiking boots, but it was better than the time I rolled my ankle 8 miles from the car. A really good sock will be very helpful, but I'd try it and deal with a little chaffing and soreness if that's all it does. With tennis shoes you don't really know it's there as long as it is adjusted properly.

^^I'll let you know, probably going to do one day at BC and one day at Vail this weekend. So far this year has been epic powder days, but this weekend might be dry.... looks like snow next week though. Excellent base, 100% of runs are open. If you haven't been to Vail before, front = groomers, back = powder bowls, far back (blue sky basin) = powder tree runs

So my old nidecker bindings broke last weekend, and I've been considering replacing them with some Flow bindings for a while.

What are people's thoughts on Flows? worth it? junk? I was specifically looking at the M11. Is that overkill for freeriding?

Either heading to Vail or Park City on Wednesday. Still waiting to make a decision based on flights/conditions/lodging.

Looks like the snow's still supposed to be falling through Tuesday.
