My buddy got strip searched at the Cancun Airport when we were on our way back from Spring Break because they found a pocket knife in his carry on bag. The very same pocket knife in the very same bag that he had no issues getting through RDU security. This was pre-9/11 though. I just always found it funny.
11/15/2010 5:44:01 PM
i guess theres a difference to it being accesible during the flight and not.i dononowadays you cant bring shit though, i wish theyd just find what they find look at the shit and so "o its a fuckin bottle of lotion"i cant stand having to buy new deodorants[Edited on November 15, 2010 at 5:46 PM. It was one of those small keychain knives, and he had it on the zipper of his carry on bag. It was there when he went through RDU security on the way to Cancun as well and they didn't catch it[Edited on November 15, 2010 at 5:46 PM. Reason : a]

o gotchai thought you meant in his stowed luggage
11/15/2010 5:46:40 PM
We actually got really worried because it was like 10 minutes before boarding and they weren't done with him yet. We thought they were going to keep him in Cancun.
11/15/2010 5:47:33 PM
I've been through a few scanners. The last time I went through one I forgot I left my license in my back jean pocket and the person running the scanner freaked out on me and started yelling "what is in your back pocket?!?!"
11/15/2010 5:59:50 PM
those "distorted" images become a lot less distorted if they look at the negative insteadalso, once you begin screening, you're forbidden from stopping. you can expect a lawsuit from the govt if you try to leave and go home
11/15/2010 6:21:33 PM
they go to all those lengths to make sure i can't legally show my junk in public... now i get that chance and people tryin to take it away from me!
11/15/2010 8:07:21 PM
^^ actually, thats a fakeBut the old change it to BW and mess with the contrast thing should still work[Edited on November 15, 2010 at 8:14 PM. Reason : .]

I want these machines as x-ray glasses. Also, I want a fluffer before I walk through the machine for I am a grow-er, not a show-er.
11/15/2010 8:15:53 PM
oh, it's real alright!that's why i ordered:

I fly almost once a week and I cannot stand the TSA. Half of them take their job way too seriously (see Manchester airport) and half of them do not know what the hell they are doing. My buddy sent his bag through one time and the RDU TSA person didn't even glance at the screen because she was talking personal matters with another employee. The new body scanners suck and take entirely too long. I don't care if they look at my weiner, they just need to hurry their act up.
11/15/2010 8:52:44 PM
the part that I'm most upset about is that the "public outcry" won't change anything. people will lose interest and get used to it, and in a year we'll all be showing TSA our junk without a second thought.

11/15/2010 9:42:02 PM
My wife went through one at RDU. Once she went through it, a TSA 'agent' walked up and started groping and pulling on her hair. She was like WFT? Why did I just go through a whole body scanner if you are going to grope my hair? Can't you see it is a few bobby pins?
11/15/2010 9:47:27 PM
Simple solution. Stop flying. I haven't flown since 9/11 and never will again.
11/15/2010 9:57:50 PM
you know some douchebag has a juicy contract to manufacture 20,000 of those machines. hope you guys like having your privacy invaded.
11/15/2010 10:06:54 PM
Somewhere in the thread it was asked what people flying on private jets have to do before they can fly. If they start enforcing these same rules for everyone, we'd be more likely to see changes to this current crap situation we're in with these scanners. More often than not, people with money have connections and know who can get things changed.
11/15/2010 10:09:16 PM
There was one I went through up in Minneapolis, they reiterated three times that I had to make sure all my pockets were completely empty even though I had emptied them into the x-ray machine conveyor belt. So I gave them my chapstick, went through and it's actually not really all that slow. Slower than making it clear through the metal detector but not faster than the full body metal detector and the detector wand.I read recently the government's doctors/physicians were saying it would take approximately a couple thousand full body scans to accumulate 3-5 equivalent chest x-rays per year, but the pilots union having their own doctors argue it was much more potent and was closer to 15-25 per year instead. Also,

I am more concerned with being pregnant and going through x-rays than I am about the nudity...but I am concerned about the nudity part.^thanks, moron.
11/15/2010 10:40:53 PM
Stop flying. Stay local. Be Mr. T.
11/15/2010 10:45:59 PM
I, too, am concerned about punckmonk's nudity.
11/15/2010 10:52:39 PM
^^^ i know you know, but in case it's not clear to the casual observer, merely being in an airplane at altitude exposes you to X-rays from cosmic radiation, and the back-scatter is a miniscule percentage of this.
11/15/2010 10:55:19 PM
Has anyone with small children flown since these things were implemented? Do they make babies go through the scanner?
11/15/2010 11:02:16 PM
Yes, shortly before they eat them. Also, rule 34:http://www.bodyscannerporn.com/[Edited on November 15, 2010 at 11:04 PM. Reason : .]
11/15/2010 11:03:01 PM
You let them try. I've gotten my keychain pocketknife through security like 12 times. I WILL CUT THEM
11/15/2010 11:04:09 PM
Also, someone mentioned 4th amendment rights earlier. These don't exist at airports, because all airports are considered border crossings.
11/15/2010 11:06:06 PM
^ I don't agree with you there. That's one theory on which you can justify tightened security, but it's not really a "border crossing" and not all travels are viewed that way. It's just a "border" for international flights, and that's where you butt up against the right to travel unfettered between the states. The actual legal reason is not that the Fourth Amendment doesn't apply, but rather that you've consented to the search by entering into the airport, and you are free to leave at any point up until you are in the midst of the search. Here's an interesting perspective on Israeli security:http://www.thestar.com/news/world/article/744199---israelification-high-security-little-bother[Edited on November 16, 2010 at 10:18 AM. i did not read any of this thread, but i will form my opinion, anyway:get over it...who the fuck cares? they will see hundreds (thousands, more likely) of people every day...my body will be nothing special, nor will they remember me 5 seconds after i walk through the scanner...i have nothing to hide and i really couldn't care lessblah blah blah rights blah blah blah liberty blah blah blah waaaaaaaaaaah blah blah blah
11/16/2010 10:36:00 AM
11/16/2010 10:51:56 AM
Once you're in line, you have to be searched. If you decline your flight and leave the airport you're subject to a $10,000 fine. Happened to someone just this week.
11/16/2010 11:10:19 AM
are you allowed to tuck while you walk through pigeon-toed?
11/16/2010 11:19:29 AM
that scanner isn't going to find a anus bomb though dude
11/16/2010 11:25:32 AM
ill belt it/give it the north pull
11/16/2010 11:26:41 AM
As with anything that causes a minor inconvenience, people will complain. Following the first wave of complaints they will do it anyway because they need to fly, the complaining just helps vent the frustration caused by hassles.
11/16/2010 11:30:24 AM
Then stop flying.Apparently if they see a tampon they are required to do further investigation.
11/16/2010 11:31:40 AM
they should send you an email with your picture
11/16/2010 11:31:58 AM
To be honest, one of my problems is that they always pull hot women in their 'random' searches. They always have, and now it just gets creepier with the body imaging machine. I guess its part of my protective nature and hate of creeps.I'm not all that concerned with the groping (of me), personally. Its just as awkward for them. Now if it was a family member or child...
11/16/2010 11:48:02 AM
someone is going to flip their shit if a TSA worker starts giggling when viewing the images.
11/16/2010 11:53:47 AM
i hope they at least put the TSA image-viewer in some sort of hood, like when an NFL ref reviews a challenge
11/16/2010 11:56:50 AM
^^
11/16/2010 11:57:25 AM
sounds about right...
11/16/2010 12:01:20 PM
yeah, that's when these things first came out. now we have a good holiday season coming...hopefully something goes down with some citizen rejecting both of these procedures
11/16/2010 12:06:03 PM
11/16/2010 12:08:21 PM
can someone sum up why everyone hates these things so much?is it because of nudity or time or both?
11/16/2010 12:09:31 PM
invasion of privacyhealth concerns
11/16/2010 12:11:43 PM
don't like it, don't flyflying is a privilege, not a right
