It runs really well on my card, 1x MSI GTX 580 lightning extreme. It's a benchmark game mainly, but it's playable with the MSI GTX580 LE. I'm going SLI around xmas, so I should be pushing 100+ FPS with an Acer 120 Hertz Input monitor. 9/14/2011 3:07:16 PM |

yeah i might check it out.
i guess the point is that im not worried about how it runs on my computer because im never opposed to upgrading to max the settings and FPS.
its just a matter of deciding whether to play from the computer chair or the couch. 9/14/2011 3:15:52 PM |

is dual 5830's equal to like one 5850 or 70? Haven't really bothered looking at the fps on those.
Quote : | "JBaz, what about archery?" |
Not going to worry about archery since I seldom used it in Oblivion except for my thief character. But even then, they probably will have console controls to be manageable to shoot it. But I'm not going to stress over a controller controls since I'll be on a pc and play on a keyboard and mouse
Quote : | "Eh. I don't really see the point in spending $300 to put together a machine that only plays this at the minimum settings. If I was going to play it on the PC, I'd probably end up putting together something that was able to max it out. And I'd imagine that would be in the range of $1000 or so?" |
You need to head over to the build thread. Lots of helpful discussions about new builds in the past few days just for skyrim and bf3. I just upgraded my friends pc from a c2d celeron to an amd x6 for about $560, including the os, but he already had a gpu, so add another 90 or so for a cheap decent one. $1000 will get you a lot of power now days, but you can get by with 600-800 depending on what you can harvest from old computers and shop smartly.
If you need help, just pm me. Been helping a shitton of ppl lately.

This is what I built for BF3, Rage, and Skyrim, and I seriously doubt I have any problem maxing out a 19inch 1400x900 and if so I'll just get a GTX 570 or 580. Obviously this is not an upper end system, but it probably a good bang for $700 (what I paid with the rebates and the prices of the items at the time of purhcase).

personally, I think the Antec HCG 750w to be overpriced for what you get out of it compared to other offerings in the 700-800 range. It's only an 80 plus bronze product, which is a disadvantage on their 900w version, since there are other manufacturers with similar 750-1000w silver and gold for cheaper then what antec currently has. It's still a great psu, but I would have shopped around first.
The 750w OCZ for $60AR is a decent buy on newegg right now. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341041
If you wanted to stick with Antec HCG, their 900w version for 130 is not a bad value, but for the same price range, the 850w OCZ 80plus gold would be in the decision process. 9/14/2011 11:07:28 PM |
JBaz All American 16764 Posts user info edit post |
Also, why did you get the plain vanilla 560 instead of the 560 ti? it's only $20 more on newegg right now. It seems to get between 8-13% improvement in most games and it runs 5 degrees cooler.

I think I got the regular 560 thinking it was the Ti, but its not that big of a deal to me, they are close enough to one another for me. However I do wish I would have gotten at least an 850W PSU now since I am thinking about doing Crossfire. 9/15/2011 12:41:54 AM |
JBaz All American 16764 Posts user info edit post |
you mean SLI, crossfire is AMD multicard solution... Also, to ease your fears, the 560's are power sipping compared to every other nvidia cards in the fermi family right now. It's also the coolest. Two 560's should be around 540-580w on load which should be fine if you don't plan to OC the CPU and/or the GPU's.

Hey now, Skyrim is going to be hardware demanding just like oblivion was. It's on everyone's mind in every tech forum I visit besides BF3.
Funny how no one is talking if their computer will run MW3... I guess because 90%+ of the COD players are on consoles anyhow. heh 9/15/2011 7:22:37 AM |

If I were you, I would RMA and get the best GTX 560 you can find, for the price.
Motherboard, processor, and video card are always the main components that I scrutinize heavily in a system. Everything else, although important, you can always pick a cheaper solution, and not suffer on quality much.
For the most part, you did a good job keeping the system inexpensive, you should run Skyrim at medium settings at your desired resolution with what you have, at a sustained 60 FPS no problem.
At max settings, you will probably get lower average 40-60 frames, but still great for the price point.
Unless you have an Acer 120 Hertz Input Monitor, any frames above 60 are not visible through your display, and is a waste of money. Your card may be producing 75, but your display bottlenecks you to 60..

^^^^ I exactly mean Crossfire since my motherboard doesn't support SLI that I am aware of I was planning on getting to AMD GPUS early next year.
^ 40-50 frames per second on max would do me just fine, and again if I was not satisfied enough I would just get a 570. Its too much of a hassle to RMA and besides its not the end of the world not to get the best 560. The 560 that I have for the most part has lived up to what I have expected, ex. it can run Metro 2033 maxed out, although in the high 30s and low 40s, it still plays well.

doesn't rma come with a stiff %15 restocking fee? That would negate the idea of returning it just to get another 560 or even the 560 ti. 9/15/2011 9:40:13 AM |
Stimwalt All American 15292 Posts user info edit post |
RMA depends on the return policy, it differs depending on the product. Yeah, I'm sure you will be more than satisfied with what you have, I wouldn't be, but then again I bought a 580 lightning extreme. 9/15/2011 9:48:11 AM |

okay, so if the recommended card is a GTX 260 or radeon 4890, what will i need to to play this flawlessly on a 720p television? i realize i asked this already in this thread, but i haven't kept up with the tech and so i don't know what sort of performance a 260 or 4890 would give me at 720p
a GTX 260 has a passmark value of 1742 and a radeon 4890 has a passmark value of 1938...keeping to the same scale, what passmark value would i need to get a decent framerate with max settings at 720p?
i was holding out for a $100 6850 (passmark of 2847), but that might be overkill (and this game is the only thing i need a "good" video card for, so i'd rather buy only what i need right now)

Well right now I appear to fall in the recommended specs, but debating on if there are any fairly cheap ways to increase my enjoyment of this game. I'm running a single GTX 460, Intel i7 processor and 6 GB of RAM right now. My case is already pressed for space with 6 HD's and a dvd burner. Can't remember my power supply rating at the moment (believe its 1000W) so with that much hardware not sure how it will handle adding a second card for SLI. Also considering swapping out my system drive for a SSD for that increase in performance at some point. 11/2/2011 3:28:54 PM |

Cheapest way to increase your enjoyment: lower your graphics settings and your expectations.
They don't develop games to look terrible on everything but enthusiast hardware. I'm going to bet that the game is going to look awesome on your computer. 11/2/2011 3:31:25 PM |

^^ if you don't like it, bring the banhammer...oh wait
the game doesn't drop for another 8 days...until folks are actually playing the game, might as well talk about anything related to it
in other news, UESP updated their wiki based on bethesda's system requirements, so it's as complete a list as anyone is going to find (and so discussion in thread about hardware is probably pointless): http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:System_Requirements
Doss2k: it looks like your single 460 should be fine, since it falls within the "very high / extremely high" category

Sat down last night and worked on getting my i7 930 OC from 2.8 to 3.8 GHz to give me a good week to stress test it some and make sure everything remains stable and the temps dont go too high on me. Trying to squeeze what extra I can out of my system without spending any money haha
GeForce GTX 460 768MB I believe this is the one I have so its actually the top on the high/very high list so likely I will give it a whirl and if I feel I need more then that will be what I replace probably.

Unless you run out of ram. I know once people started loading textures up on Oblivion they could surpass 1GB pretty easily. 768 is cutting it very close these days.
-I remember back in 2006/2007 when I got my 8800GTX with only 768MB of ram I'd get great performance but once I started turning up settings and adding texture packs I'd easily hit the limit and performance would tank. That was at 1920 by 1200 though.
