My priest is also a lawyer who practiced for 25 years before getting his doctorate in divinity (talk about a life change), and he's the coolest person I've ever met in my life. Truly makes you understand the context of the Bible and the realities of God in an infinite number of situations and he would completely rip apart any of these fundamentalist asshole near-snake handlers who think they have a monopoly on the word of God.

I don't think I need to reference scripture where that is frowned upon. To say living a good life is "the way" to God's good graces is a fool's errand. Redemption is through faith in the blood of Christ which is further confirmed by good works. I am not saying you are not a saint, a courtesy you do not extend me, but if you do not believe in redemption solely through the blood of Christ you are not saved.
