then I would say mma is not for them, no loss

im not ashamed of my sport. Take them to the Bull City brawl at the downtown durham armory if they want cheap excitement

im not talking shit im just saying, like i dont feel they should bend over backwards to gain new fans of any ilk. In my opinion the good of the FOX deal is that they are exposing their product to more SPORTS fans, with the goal of gaining rational fans that want to see a good sporting effort and strategy

i really dont feel this deal was made to just gain any old fan and keep them, or else they would load the card with a lot less analysis and a lot less of the introspective promos into the facets of the competitors lives. They are building real fan support from real sports fans.

i would never force feed MMA to anyone, i give it one unapologetic try, if they dont like it they dont like it, this sport will never be the "big three"

if they thought Maia/weidman was a snoozefest good god what is their standard for excitement? that was a good little brawl, even when they were gassed they were still goin hard

if people are getting hit 100s of times a fight they dont belong in the UFC and wont be there very long. I guess thats the standard for excitement

I expected a little more domination from Sonnen but I think Bisping's style presented a matchup challenge that he didn't expect. I hate Bisping with a passion so I was hoping for a little more punishment. Either way, I don't expect Sonnen to beat Silva. Trash talking, whether it is to hype a fight or not, is classless. I'm not a huge fan of Silva but at least he does his talking in the ring.

on another note, I had no idea this ever happened:

http://www.heavy.com/mma/mma-news/2012/01/despite-whites-assurances-chael-sonnen-will-believe-silva-fight-when-he-sees-it/

Quote :
"Sonnen took Silva into the fifth round at UFC 117 in August 2010 and dominated the champ for four rounds before finally tapping to an armbar-triangle choke midway through the fifth. After the fight, he tested positive for elevated testosterone levels and was suspended by the California State Athletic Commission. "

I've listened to reviews of the show from people that cover MMA for a living that said "dear God, that match sucked".

Maia's a jiu jitsu guy, Weidman's a wrestler, and they proceeded to have a kickboxing match.

Quote :
"I don't expect Sonnen to beat Silva."

hell no he's not beating Anderson as long as Anderson is healthy

Quote :
"on another note, I had no idea this ever happened:"

how did you miss that? him testifying in front of the California commission citing one lie after another was comedy gold of the bad kind; Dana wanted to do the immediate rematch because Sonnen was the first guy to manhandle Anderson in the cage and the positive test and subsequent six-month suspension ruined that

it wasnt a good fight, but it wasnt boring at all.

if you thought maia was gonna use his jiu jitsu you havent been paying attention to maia lately, and with 11 days notice...not just 11 day opponent switch, im tallkin 11 days ago sitting on the couch eating a cheeseburger with no opponent...and maias striking being so bad yet so willing to continue to strike, of course weidman is going to exploit that being the much bigger, without giving maia the advantage by taking it to the mat. I mean thats what i expected coming into the fight knowing that you had to cut 30 pounds in 10 days and that youre a huge middleweight that will run out of energy pretty quickly because of the cut

maia basically become a jorge gurgel, and it was embarassing that HE was gassed.

but I agree it wasnt a great fight, but it was far from a snoozer i dont understand, but forrest/bonnar wasnt a great fight either technically...just two guys being hit one million times and a couple of sloppy gassed takedowns which I do not want those kind of fights to represent MMA...at least in the grandest stage of professional fighting

i think chael has a good chance to do the same thing again, i also think he can easily walk into a good punch and be put away. I look forward to the fight because I feel Anderson is at his weakest with a guy that is just going to come forward with competent striking, a good chin, and a willingness to eat a few on the way in to do what is no secret to anyone, which is take anderson down and keep him there. Anderson, injury or not, is still relatively easy to take down if youre willing to get in his face, and any time anderson is on one foot for any reason is an opporyunity for chael to push him to the floor.

Chael is different from Silva's other opponents in that he is not goign to fight any measured pace, hes not going to try to get into a strikers rythym, and hes not going to wait for anderson to do something. Vitor, one of the greatest strikers of all time, fell a victim to his own skill in that he waited for anderson and was looking for a measured sort of exchanges typical of a striking match. Thats why jon jones ripped shogun a new asshole. Shogun is a measured muay thai rythym style striker, jon jones just brought it to his ass and shogun could never establish any range or recognize any patterns. Chael brings that to anderson, hes not going to be afraid to go get knocked out, hes just gonna go get it and he has the gas to do it. Dan Henderson kind of presented a similar problem to silva in the first round, but by the second hendo was already spent and anderson got to figure him out at a pace to his liking and tooled him like a bitch in the second

I dont feel like anderson is going to find a training partner like that, he can no longer train with munoz since munoz basically went on record saying he wants to fight for the title so they cant train together. hed have to bring in like a cain velasquez or something but I dont think Cain can match the aggressiveness of chael, as cain is a measured technical guy himself.

that being said i think anderson wins by tko i just feel like chael will get caught with a strike he cant recover from. but I dont think its a forgone conclusion that silva will win. Being in brazil, this will be a HUGE fight

and about the Chael Testosterone Replacement thing, that was an issue of him nto having the proper documentation before testing for it but he is approved now and is still using it just like Dan Henderson. So hes legal.

I really don't see how a knowledgeable person can defend Maia's performance in that fight. Weidman sure because he came in late. Maia, hell no. Bisping would've KO'd him inside a round. Although then you state this and it answers those concerns:

yeah, and Nate Marquardt's clean too

Don't know why people are surprised at what Maia v. Weidman looked like. Maia couldn't take him down, Weidman didn't want to take him down unless he absolutely had to. When it became apparent that he could win or stay even in the striking dept. you knew exactly what he'd do. Stand and trade and then with less than a minute left take him down and lay on him.

Great strategy from a guy who wasn't going to have the gastank for this fight. Hell of a boring fight, but tactically correct.

Maia had no excuse for being gassed. He should be embarrassed by that performance.

Sonnen won that fight, but my god I have to question the judges. How the hell could anybody not see that Bisping clearly won rd. 2? 30-27 is not an acceptable score for that fight.

these fucking judges

^^lol marquardt has pissed hot before and has provided no documentation that his deficient in naturally produced testosterone. Plus marquardt isnt the sharpest tool I am sure he is still using enhancers and hell probably be caught again especially since hes fighing abroad in countries with questionable commissions

Agreed, bisping won round two.

Again, tactical is boring. If you're not good enough to win the belt you need to be interesting to watch. Otherwise bury them on fightcards that only hardcore fans care to watch

Am i the only person that doesnt feel like Condit belongs fighting Nick Diaz for a chance at the belt?

I mean, im sorry i hate the term "overrated" but I feel like Condit is...overconsidered

His wrestling sucks, people are basically hyped over him getting some crazy finishes. Come on, the guy beat Hardy in a situation that he was lucky to land the harder punch because he got hit at the same time. People also hype up that he beats rory mcdonald, and I mean hes a beast, but the guy is young. Jake ellenberger is a good win, but people are most hyping him for one flying knee against a Judo guy

i mean come on, Nick Diaz is gonna kill him it wont be a contest. I dont even want to see condit fight GSP hes just a pedestrian fighter in my opinion.

if condit fought BJ on that night nick fought him Condit would have lost.

I'm betting that The Reem avoids jail. I'm just guessing here, but that the 3 AM casino floor encounter with a female probably wasn't just him lashing out and smacking a bitch.

Looking forward to Condit vs. Diaz. Should be an awesome fight, but I think Diaz takes it via repeated 1-2s to the face.

Nick. His cardio is so off the charts good it's ridiculous and he's actually developed some counter wrestling over the years. Nick also has by far the better standup game at this point. Nate has pulled some nice submissions off his back, but I think he's still in trouble against top tier wrestlers who can control him.

This sport isn't salveageable. Too much profit incentive for the judges

Whenever the money comes in hard the guy that wins the fight suddenly loses. This was too mainstream to rig though

Round 5 should have gone to Diaz too.

Whoever scored it 49-46 condit was obviously in on the fix

^^ it may be smart and effective fighting, but he still ran away like a little girl the entire fight. no one should be rewarded for ruining a good fight by refusing to engage in one. i think that the ufc should refuse to grant decision victories and force the fighters to either submit or ko their opponent for a win. it would make people actually fight and it would help to prevent nights like this one where every fight ends in a decision.

I felt like Condit won the fight, although I didn't like how he did it. I have always liked Diaz. Truthfully though, Diaz should have changed his game up to deal with Condit running away. I can't imagine Diaz is actually going to retire, but who knows. I also felt like the refs were breaking dudes up way too early. Before they can establish position the ref stands them up or splits them up.

this crazy talk lol. i havent seen the fight but based on the recounts and the play by play it seemed like condit was moving laterally and used good timing. I heard a couple instances where he literally turned his back and ran away like jon jones did v.s. rampage but for the most part it was calculated movements and countering

who the hell would see the benefit in standing there trading with diaz? he doesnt feel punches and keeps walking you down. fuck that, the gameplan should be hit him more than he hits me even if you dont commit to power

did anyone see the alex cacares fight, total bullshit on so many levels. Herb Dean is in there just flexing his muscle. Alex got deducted two points for one groin shot that was totally incidental after receiving a "strong warning" from herb in the previous round. He loses the fight because of it.

IN ADDITION, the judging fucked him because i dont feel alex lost a single round, he looked amazing out there even after he got dropped by a headkick he still dominated the rest of the round. so with the BS two point deduction he should have won 28-27 EASY, instead he loses the split decision because some judge likes head kicks.

as i said, it was an effective strategy, but it's terrible entertainment and that's what these people are here to do first and foremost. their job is to fight each other for the viewer's amusement, and if you have to bore the crowd to sleep to win then you don't belong in the ring. condit could learn a lesson or two from roy nelson, that man knows how to get punched in the face.

this fight is a perfect example of my 'not every fight needs to have a declared winner' philosophy. the non-caceres guy did nothing the entire fight and caceres couldn't do anything to his opponent except kick him in the balls constantly. if i were a judge (which i totally could be, because like them my decisions are totally emotional and based on random and subjective things) i would feel uncomfortable saying either fighter won that fight when it was essentially a stalemate.

^^ He went from having a money-spinning championship fight with Georges St. Pierre to never having it and losing the money associated with it to having to fight Carlos Condit in the interim to losing an interim championship fight to Carlos Condit because of a dumb gameplan of "always come forward with my head still" and now he's likely being suspended for a year on a 2nd test failure, the 1st having taken away one of the greatest wins of his career being Takanori Gomi.

Diaz is the guy that bitches about his job and how no one gives him a chance and then when he gets an interview for a better paying job shows up to it drunk.

What a surprise to see evans go to decision . The guy is the epitome of a good fighter that plays it safe to win. I don't care if it makes me an unsophisticated fan for not liking that shit.

im a little disappointed in evans

but hthe dude wasnt scared to get knocked out give me a break.

he just didnt have anything for jones' reach in the end. his striking isnt yet at the level to exploit jones evasion

hendo is gonna get embarassed and i hope the little primadonna retires, he doesnt even have the gas to survive the second round. I am disappointed he sat out to choose a title fight between MW and LHW. He doesnt deserve it after how he looked vs shogun.

im also pissed off they didnt have Evans fight shogun next, instead shogun fights thiago silva and evans hasnt had a fight announced. who the hell else is there? some gimme fights....im so sick of that get rashad a fight asap i wanna see him back in the cage against a GOOD opponent
