Any university worth a shit would be embarrassed to have high school internet typing as part of their marketing campaign. Could you imagine the rabble if a university like Harvard did something similar?

I just don't think many of the Peace girls are into that.

lulz, I guess they now plan on making money with these "leadership academies" Tata is pushing.

http://www.wcpss.net/news/2011_nov1_peace-leadership/

Quote :
"November 1, 2011 – The Wake County Public School System and William Peace University are working on plans to establish an early college campus for the school system's new single-gender leadership academies for students in grades six through 13 effective fall 2012.

Under the terms of a Memorandum of Understanding being developed by WCPSS and William Peace University that will be presented to their respective boards, the Wake Young Women's Leadership Academy and the Wake Young Men's Leadership Academy will be located entirely on the Peace campus. The two schools' curricula are designed to develop future leaders through team cohesiveness, academic rigor and personal attention in a highly structured environment committed to success. All students attending the Wake Leadership Academies will graduate on time with college credits, motivated and highly prepared to be college- and career-ready.

Attending either the Wake Young Women's Leadership Academy or Wake Young Men's Leadership Academy is completely voluntary. To be considered for acceptance, a student must submit an application including an essay and letters of recommendation. Other application requirements include a review of past achievement data and attendance records, and an interview with prospective students. Ideally, half of Wake Leadership Academy students will be first-generation college bound."

I hope that only counts irl cause then

they also just announced:
Quote :
"
RALEIGH, N.C. - William Peace University (http://www.peace.edu), a private four-year university located in downtown Raleigh, has announced Transfer2Success, a partnership with Wake Technical Community College offering students a community college transfer program. Once a student has completed two and a half years of education at Wake Tech, this program will allow the student admission to William Peace University, with the ability to earn a bachelor's degree from the latter in one and a half years. Program transfer students, who will be taught by William Peace University faculty members, will have the option to take the remaining courses needed in earning their bachelor's degree on the campus of Wake Tech. An official agreement was signed between Debra M. Townsley, Ph.D., William Peace University president, and Stephen C. Scott, Ed.D., Wake Technical Community College president, on Nov. 3.

"We could not be more excited to announce our partnership with Wake Technical Community College," said Debra M. Townsley, Ph.D. "The Transfer2Success program offers a fluid transition for community college students, designed to provide them with the direction and guidance needed for completion of a university baccalaureate degree, while conveniently allowing them to remain on the campus of Wake Tech if desired."

"This is a major addition for Wake Technical Community College to offer our students the ability to participate in a transfer program that will earn them a bachelor's degree from a major private university while they attend our campus," said Stephen C. Scott, Ed.D. "I thank everyone at William Peace University who worked with us in creating this milestone achievement, and I urge all students to review the requirements of the Transfer2Success program and consider pursuing it if they find it helps them meet their future educational goals."

Joining Dr. Townsley and Dr. Scott in attendance for the formal signing agreement were Debbie Cottrell, Ph.D., provost of William Peace University, Laurie Albert, vice president and dean of the School of Professional Studies at William Peace University, Veatrice Carabine, director of the School of Professional Studies at William Peace University, Bryan Ryan, senior vice president of curriculum education at Wake Tech and Sandy Dietrich, associate vice president of career programs at Wake Tech.

About William Peace University:

William Peace University is located in the heart of Raleigh, North Carolina. It was founded in 1857 as Peace Institute, offering education for boys and girls in primary grades and to women from high school to college. Peace, an all women's college, became a four-year baccalaureate college and graduated its first bachelor's students in August of 1996. Peace began offering coeducational evening courses through the William Peace School of Professional Studies in 2009. In 2011, Peace College transitioned to William Peace University and will begin admitting male students to its day program in fall 2012. Its mission is to prepare students for careers in the organizations of tomorrow. On average, more than 90 percent of the university's graduates are placed in jobs or graduate school within one year of graduation. For more information, please visit http://www.peace.edu.

About Wake Technical Community College:

Wake Technical Community College is North Carolina's second largest community college, serving more than 64,000 students annually with five campuses, two training centers, multiple community sites, and a comprehensive array of distance learning options. Wake Tech is fully accredited and offers more than 165 associate's degrees, diplomas, and certificates that prepare students for university transfer or immediate employment. Wake Tech also offers non-credit continuing education programs: customized workforce training, small business support, public safety officer training, basic skills courses such as English as a Second Language and high school equivalency preparation, and other courses for personal enrichment. I believe the only school in wake county to have grade 13 is Wake Early College http://healthscienceec.wcpss.net/

Quote :
"Wake Early College of Health and Sciences High School (more commonly known as Wake Early College or WECHS) is a small high school program (grades 9–12, and one year of post-secondary education) located on the north campus of Wake Technical Community College in Raleigh, North Carolina. The school provides five years of education in which students can receive a high school diploma, as well as an Associate of Arts, Science, or Applied Sciences degree.[1] The school has an enrollment of roughly 215 students as of the 2009–2010 school year.[2] Although it is a public magnet high school under the Wake County Public School System, it has no base area."

I do think it's funny that they're now coming out with all these "great programs" after the changeover debacle. I'm sure the Wake Tech one has been on the table for some time now but you'd think they would have announced it before the co-ed thing, not after so it looks like reactive PR

yeah, exactly. What I don't understand is WHY didn't they do all this stuff (marketing, PR) BEFORE when admissions were declining? Why go co-ed and make all these changes and then all the marketing.

I think they wanted to go co-ed and brought in this whole new administration to make these changes and are just using low admissions as an excuse.

That's exactly what they're doing. Their development and recruitment offices weren't doing their job so now they're implementing a bunch of programs/changes to counteract that.

I'm sure the professors that teach higher ed administration at State are having a field day watching Peace.

For some reason I picture William Peace University's casting for the male in the commercial a lot like the search that goes on at NCCU whenever they want to publish a brochure and show off their diversity. It's like a Where's Waldo for the two white kids that are enrolled.

On a more serious note, I really hate some of these "we'll automatically enroll you into a university" stuff. I mean, as I left Raleigh and started working, I was amazed at how many people around me I could never have imagined actually graduated from college but told me "yeah, I was in a program where I got automatic enrollment" or something along those lines. The days of "having a college degree" being an accomplishment in-and-of itself are no more....

There's a lot of debate right now among the higher ed community about the corporatization of the college degree. It basically started in the late-80s when a lot of the rules and regulations surrounding universities were done away with. Now you have companies making billions of dollars off giving people degrees. In my opinion all it does is diminish the worth of the degrees in the first place.

^^ Naw, marketing definitely has its place in the university setting. For more well-known universities the marketing tends to be much more subtle so you don't even know it's going on. But you better believe Yale, Duke, Stanford, Harvard, etc have recruitment departments working on making sure people still know they're hot shit.
