What's wrong with gallon jugs? I used to carry one to the gym because I drink a lot of water and it's annoying to wait for a water fountain to piss my [smaller container] all the way full. Just more efficient when you're doing circuits or not trying to take unwanted breaks to refill. Never understood all the hate, or why pansy gyms go out of their way to ban them

I should probably start using a jug actually, because too many times you have to wait for people to get their water plus with smaller bottles i have to take up other peoples time filling the bottle up when it is empty

why would a gym ban jugs anyway?

because you can use them to bash some sissy man's face in if he is taking to long on the assisted dip machine

I always found it strange that Planet Fitness banned gallon jugs. A "judgement free zone" that judges people who brings jugs to the gym.

^^Or if someone gives you a nasty look while you're filling it up at the water fountain you can slap them across the face with it and be like "WHAT!?!" and see if they buck up.

^ I have never heard of that in my life. Are you sure you people aren't just making stuff up now?

I heard that Planet Fitness forces you to eat pizza and bagles at the start of every workout and they banned heart rates over 143. And they make you eat a bowl of tootsie rolls before you can leave.

planet fitness does have one hell of a money making scheme.

1) you can never truly get in shape so you'll have to go back or quit
1A) if you quit, you won't cancel so you still pay
2) you can eat bagels and pizza provided by the gym on certain days
3) most people who join there probably won't workout anyway
4) the people who do workout feel that the "other" gyms have lunks so they won't switch
5) offer cancer causing tanning beds (perhaps their in bed with the AMA?)
6) if you cancel, they still charge you (interwebs search this, it is amazing how many complaints there are about them not cancelling memberships)

now THAT is marketing gold

I wish I could go in the girls' locker room.

I kinda like those naked people in gym locker rooms... I admire their confidence and it can even be motivating

for example: when I was at Lifestyle there was this one older woman who would walk around naked

like take a shower, go to the sink and brush her teeth, use the toilet, go to the vanity and fix her hair, etc all buck ass naked... and she had a rather voluminous salt-n-pepper afro bush

it made me lol and think "word lady, rock that shit"

the men's locker room is full of 60 year old fat hairy men that I've never once actually seen IN the gym working out.

Bally's gym tried to do that "You can't cancel" scheme on me, too. Bally's has such a high number of lawsuits its insane.

i set it off twice when i used a 30 day guest pass over xmas break....once for dead lifting and another for "dropping" a pair of 85lb dbs...how do i gently set these down without hurting myself?...tbh they shouldn't have DBs that go past 50 or have any other bench aside from a smith machine. Not a single pull up bar in the place either

they only honked it at me, not actually setting it off

"Grunting can be a nuisance to anyone within earshot, sure, but does it serve any physiological purpose?

Dennis G. O’Connell, a professor of physical therapy at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Tex., has conducted studies on the effects of grunting. He found that weight lifters produce between 2 and 5 percent more force when they grunt, in part because the deep breathing grunting entails can help stabilize the spine.

“I’m not so sure it’s wise to tell people not to grunt,” Professor O’Connell said."

I have a question about etiquette:

There are fans in the Carmichael, able to be controlled by gym members. What is the protocol for turning these fans on/off - particularly when others are around,

What if it is "off" and no one is in the general vicinity?

Or if I turn it on, then someone comes to my workout vicinity and turns it off?

There are two types of grunting though. Grunting because you are giving 100 percent and it helps, and grunting because you want to hear yourself and want to make sure everyone around you knows you're liftin' shit. The former is fine. The latter makes you look like a tool.

I'm gonna start a gym where you have to grunt to turn on the fans, faucets, blenders, open doors, release machines, get water, everything. It'll be a god dammed grunting cacophany

Honestly, I liked Planet Fitness and would sign up again if there was one near me. Can't beat unlimited tanning for $20/month along with a 24 hour gym. I did get pissed when they brought in pizza as I was working out. I didn't partake though.

Grunting during the lift: Not cool.
Screaming when you rip your arm out of the socket: Cool.
