I don't think it's Job's contributions to the tech industry, necessarily. It's the fact that he was independent thinker and spent most of his life doing what he wanted to do. The vast majority of people wish they could do that and probably never do.
I respect the level of self determination he had more than anything else. Despite being the land of opportunity, land of the free, etc., we are all led around by forces not in our control. 10/6/2011 8:58:23 PM

Admittedly, I haven't read the article yet, but statements like that-- comparing Jobs to Gandhi are the reason so many people hate Steve Jobs, Apple, and Apple fanboys.
Not only was Jobs not anything even remotely resembling a philanthropist, the guy personally ended all of Apple's philanthropy activities when he re-took the helm at Apple.
Jobs should be compared to folks like Henry Ford, not Gandhi. 10/7/2011 11:26:16 AM

Good article on his last months: With Time Running Short, Jobs Managed His Farewells http://finance.yahoo.com/news/With-Time-Running-Short-Jobs-nytimes-175542823.html

60 minutes just made him look like a dumbass
He got diagnosed with a curable form of cancer and tried to cure it with herbs and prayer for 9 months before going to get it removed
by that time it had spread and could not be removed - he did not want his body to be "open" 10/23/2011 7:34:33 PM
