Siddhartha is on my list as well, although i read it a long time ago, its one of my 'catch up' books, because some are going to take a week whereas some will only take a couple days.

if anyone has read One Hundred Years of Solitude, PM me mmkaaayy so we can talk about it

I don't usually re-read books, but that's one I definitely want to read again. Based on your list, I'd also recommend The Stranger.

I might read One Hundred Years of Solitude next. My brother's been trying to get me to read it.

its probably one of those books that is good to re-read once a year, its only like 100 pages amirite? food for the soul i guess. i have such a bad memory anyway, it will probably be like reading it for the first time again.

Not on pace for 52, but not quite disappointed.

Read Siddhartha a while back and was extremely disappointed. (Don't know why I would be disappointed; I've never really like anything by Hesse.) Just some schmuck wandering around seeking the answers to life's persistent questions, without ever figuring out what question he's actually asking. He's Deep Thought, trying to figure out that the answer is 42, before figuring out what the Great Question even is.

2) Zone One -- Colson Whitehead
3) A Game of Thrones
4) A Clash of Kings
5) A Storm of Swords
6) A Feast for Crows
7) Keep the Change -- Steve Dublanica (Surprisingly interesting book about everything related to tipping)

In Progress:
8) A Dance with Dragons
9) Warrior Race: A History of the British At War -- Lawrence James (God, is it dry reading)

I wish I'd saved the Hunger Games trilogy for a few weeks to bring them into the 2012 count. Don't get me wrong, they're enjoyable books, but they're really fast reads and help pad the list. I had them read and done in two days (which says less about my reading and more about how much time I have on my hands).

Not sure what to land on next. Probably head back to nonfiction now that I've filled up vast quantities of mental real estate with mythical GOT stuff.

I would like to suggest that all you readers out there join http://www.goodreads.com and friend me (or not). I try to write at least a short review of each book I read and have been doing so for the past few months. It's a really good site to keep track of your reads and an awesome place to get book suggestions. I've found (and read) so many books suggested to me there that I didn't even know existed. Several of the best books I've read recently I found via this site.

^^just an opinion...

Wicked sucked...

the entire series sucked...

I read it all hoping it would get better and there would be some great story...but there wasn't...probably because I just don't really like his style of writing...

I'm reading one of his other books (a spin on Cinderella) and I like it much better....but it's still not great...

^^I didn't like Wicked either. All of the political intrigue and relationship drama was interesting/impressive, but it just wasn't fun to read. In fact, it was really dry.

really? it's probably one of my favorite series behind harry potter & the hunger games. i've been a huge fan of the wizard of oz (books & movie) for as long as i can remember so maybe i somehow subconsciously forced myself to like the books? anything about oz from any perspective tends to intrigue me. i thought wicked was exceptionally good. i also liked gregory maguire's other books, especially the ugly stepsister.

Any of y'all reading graphic novels? I just finished I Kill Giants, and I really enjoyed it. I'd like to add Craig Thompson's Habibi to my list because his last work Blankets was beautiful.

Also, Needful things is reminding me why I love Stephen King.

This is soooo my problem. For my next series, I think I'm going with short books, like the Sookie Stackhouse series.

I'm in the middle of an 800 page book right now, and a 900 page book, and I don't think they will ever end.

And my Mom keeps recommending Blanket and Habibi, so maybe I will pick those up soon.

I need a kindle, this hobby is getting expensive, and the waiting lists at the library are always too long.

That was a great book, if you haven't read it before...well, even if you have. If you like it I highly recommend Breakfast of Champions, Bluebeard, Galapagos, and Hocus Pocus.

They're all great and really easy reads. I tend to get too sleepy reading if I'm not so interested but these kept me going.

Blankets is just the really sweet memoir, but his artwork really makes you ache for the characters. If he applies that same talent to Habibi, I'm sure it's wonderful. Also, have you considered pirating/e-reader apps. I read all of Game of Thrones on my phone.

I bet that'd be really cool. R. Crumb's version of Genesis is an entertaining read. I considered finding graphic copies of the Genesis stories and Gilgamesh for my students.

Now reading: Would it kill you to stop doing that? (Henry Alford), which will hopefully be some light, humorous reading (sorely needed after blasting through A Song of Fire and Ice over the past month) while providing some etiquette tips (my total lack of comprehension regarding manners being one of my most glaring flaws)

Next up, I think, will be Cruising Attitude, an occupational memoir about flight attendants. I've been obsessed with that kind of book lately, reading about waiters and cooks and casino employees and the like.
