I own a pair of Raleigh Denim jeans. They are quite excellent, I can't speak highly enough of them. I own two pairs of jeans, but they are my preferred pair.

Congrats to Litvininkos on finding their niche and creating a business that is able to manufacture something in the US remain profitable.

Whether a pair of jeans can be worth $300 is simply whether you look at it comparative to other products, or whether you look into the resources put into the product lifecycle (once priced at fair wage). It is easy to justify either position. On one hand, marked is flooded with $15-50 dollar jeans of all sorts of cuts and styles, given enough time anyone can find a good fit at a low price point, and then thank the market system and deregulated market systems overseas. On the other hand, if you were to perform all the labor required to produce and market a pair of jeans, at whatever your current wage is, how much would such a pair cost?

And one last thing is to keep the whole nice clothing thing in perspective. The caption to this pretty well-circulated pic says "This is Steve Jobs. And you are a loser that worries every morning about what you're gonna wear to work"

I'm a big fan of Raleigh Denim - or Raleigh as they are now called. I met Victor and Sarah at a warehouse sale a few summers ago and they were super nice. I bought a pair of "seconds" for around $70 at the time - they had minor blemishes, hence the reduced price. I took them to the workshop to get hemmed and Victor gave me a tour of the place and introduced me to the team. Everything is made by hand and they use vintage machines. It was a very cool experience. This summer I bought a new pair at full price and absolutely love them. They're breaking in nicely and fit very well. The dress code in my office is casual so I wear jeans almost every day. I look at a quality pair of jeans as an investment. I grew tired of replacing worn out jeans every year and decided to buy a really good pair that will last several years.

Had they not been a local company I probably wouldn't have been as excited about the company. But the fact is, the denim is local, the jeans are made here in Raleigh - by hand, Victor and Sarah are State grads, and they make a great product. That's enough to get my money.

If you don't want to spend a few hundred on a good pair of jeans don't. That is up to you. But don't call me an asshole for spending my hard earned money how I please.

Haters gonna hate.

I think people are just mad at Monsanto, the parent company of Raleigh Denim.
